Quentin Grimes Is A Jayhawk (MONSTER CLASS ALERT)

  • It looks like next year’s team will be a very inexperienced team that could become a dangerous team. Bills patients will be tested. I hope Vick & Doke or Preston returns.

This is so difficult to handicap right now. I’d put Preston 99% to go, not as sure on Vick or Doke.

This is so difficult to handicap right now. I’d put Preston 99% to go, not as sure on Vick or Doke. If you would of ask a week ago - -I would of said all 3 gone - -Now for some reason any reason - I get a little feel Doke just might be back - -don’t ask me why. - The only thing is - -on the other hand , I just couldn’t see him coming back with us landing McCormack and De-Sousa - - makes me feel Coach pretty much told those two Doke was gone - - I don’t know.

I also posted on different thread see where Williamson cut UCLA , was suppose to visit there this weekend. - -He said decision wise probably late November early December unless something comes up then could be later. -we will see. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Looks like this will happen soon.

  • I’m glad a lot of these guys are committing early. We should really know where we stand by December it looks like. We will know what guys we are after end up where, and we will see which players look like they are NBA bound and which guys look like they will be back.

If we swing and miss, at least we will have a few months to look for some guys and we won’t be scrambling around during the summer looking to take players like Whitman.

  • @Kcmatt7

I wonder if the FBI investigation is having an effect. Maybe players are anticipating that once the scope is known some top players might de-commit and top programs will go after them instead.

  • @Kcmatt7 I do not think we will miss out on him

  • Think the Whitman decommit was the last straw for Bill and late commits? 🙂

  • @approxinfinity I have it on good authority that Self and the staff changed some things in the way they approached recruiting this year.

  • Some people might not like some of the recent changes (directly promising pt) but you have to keep with the times.

Yeah your right. When you big game hunt (the elite’s) and your an elite school how can you not adapt your philosophy? Tell the kids what they want and then get them on campus and coach em up and find out if they are the real deal to earn what you might have promised them.

It also helps in a year like this one where the roster has a lot of moving parts and there is a premium for getting players.

  • Read where Quentin enjoyed his visit to Marquette. Was surprised at the level of the program. Said he thinks it far exceeded his expectations as far as where they are as a program according to his AAU director of Basketball. .

The talent on the team , and the facilities and the whole nine yards , think he left there with a good feeling about where they are and what their future looks like. Marquette’s pitch is Grimes is their main man going forward come in and be the guy. They feel he has a chance to be a one-and-done. That if Quinten comes there he has a really good supporting cast of guys and he could take the program to another level.

Says now his visits are done going to over the next couple of weeks going to weigh options with his family and inner circle. Mainly gonna take a week or so just to chill and relax and focus on getting ready for his high school season. Over the next two weeks sit down with the family and Coach Teddy Wheeler of his AAU team and figure out the pro’s and con’s of each team.

He is wanting to plan to announce in November and be a part of the early signing period. Said that each school has done a really good job of where he would fit, what his role would be and what they expect of him.

Having said all of that I feel that it would just really floor me if he commits to Marquette. - -I still think believe it or not that our main competition for him is Texas. - All in all I still feel we get this guy and add to our awesome class - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Yeah, Self has pt to sell. Still really impressive works with the bigs though. At a minimum one is coming to be a back-up next year. And this was a class really short on quality post players.

  • @BShark

Definitely, this already has been an impressive recruiting season. We always want more especially with what we are after and the needs those players could fill but I’m extremely happy how we’ve changed the narrative on certain things- closing on a 5 star PG and getting recruits signed in the fall. Alleviates a ton of pressure going into the spring. Grimes would make this haul + the transfers Top 3 in the Self era

  • Grimes is the elite player in the group that we are recruiting. Dotson is a very good player, but Grimes can take a team to that next level. I think Dotson is kind of like Frank, with perhaps a bit more polish coming out of high school than what Frank had. Grimes is a top 10 type of talent IMO, would be top 7 if they listed him as a PG, although he can play either spot in college.

  • @justanotherfan No mistaking it, Grimes is the top target.

  • @justanotherfan I am just really impressed with how quick Devon Dotson - -really quick/fast. Plus loves to take the ball to the hole, needs to work on outside shot but I’m sure that will come. - -Multi year player, I could see with more development, progression being a 3 yr player maybe 4 but I’m thinking at the end of Jr yr he will test NBA waters. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LON BABY

  • I love all these " this team has closed the gap" “this team is a legitimate option”. It’s all just smoke to cover what is going to happen. Q is going to be a HAWK

Remember when Kansas closed the gap for Quickley? lol

    See also: Dotson.

  • @BeddieKU23 when is he committing?

  • chriz said:

Looks like before or during the November signing period that starts November 8th.

That would seem to line up with them taking the week off to reflect on things and then figuring out a decision, how to announce it etc.

  • I think we have had Grimes as a silent commitment for months and Q and his family have enjoyed the process taking visits, respecting the schools that put in effort to recruit him and making sure KU was the right fit for him after all that has happened this fall. The in-home visits, the drop by’s randomly during the week, the official visit, the surprise visit to his school yesterday have all been proof KU has led and recruited him to the fullest extent they are capable of doing. His mom is Alum, he has family in the area, he’s an Adidas kid (it still matters). Everything points to him wearing Crimson and Blue next season

  • We’ve done everything right. If he goes elsewhere it’s not on KU.

What I find amusing and yes I’m trolling boards- this is how I find OTHER recruiting tidbits but I find amusing is the Kentucky fans feel just because Cal has recruited not only Quentin but ANY player then that just automatically makes them a UK commit. - -They still believe Grimes is going to commit to UK. - -Now could he? - -well ya - -hell ya he COULD - -will he? - -well no - -Hell no he WON’T - - I’ve said it before & I’ll say it again If there is anyone to worry about to me - - -It’s Texas because of proximity - knowing the staff & knowing a lot of players off the team. - -Still think he is ours - -probably within the next month - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @BeddieKU23 Seeing him and Devon in our backcourt in the future , and then Jacobs joining the following year , & possible add Harvey to the mix - -I think were going to have a really solid back court. - - 2019 we are going to be absolutely loaded all the way around.

You look chances are more then not our back court gonna be loaded up – chances more then not still have Grimes - - -Dotson - -Moore- - -Jacobs - - - Garrett - - & Harvey.

    Front Court I feel pretty good with De-Sousa - - - McCormack - - -Lightfoot - - -Robinson-Earl - - - & a Lawson - - how stacked would that be?

You know I was a little worried about our conference streak ending this year - -now not so much , I think we will be able to fight them off, then 2018 - - forget about it we loaded again and so on and so forth - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

The more I see of Grimes the more I think he is OAD. Which works out for a lot of reasons. Especially if the staff 100% wants to add Harvey in addition to Jacobs, we will need the room.

  • @BShark Ya your probably right - -quite possibly one and done. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @BShark Please elaborate…what are they doing differently with recruiting?

  • KUSTEVE said:

Promising playing time/starting spots is a big part. This actually started last year, just didn’t work with Trae Young. Being willing to take a kid like McCormack early. That is not intended as a slight towards McCormack, remember I was hoping the staff would take Tyler Davis.

  • @BShark Many times I felt we could’ve signed perhaps a real good player that might not be Top 10 or even 20, but we were holding out for the big pick, and we end up missing a guy like MacCormick. I am so happy and relieved we are taking the top 50 guys. UNC made two straight national championship games and winning one title by going that route. Maybe we have a chance at holding on to them longer than a year.

Louisville also got kids in that range. When they won their title their top minute guys were SR, JR, JR, SO, JR, SO.

Tyler Davis called KU his dream school. I have zero doubt KU lands him if they had prioritized him.

  • @BShark

McCormack looks more fluid running the floor. He’s getting into better shape, which is going to make him a much better player. I still think he’s a year and a half away from being where he needs to be to really contribute, but under the right set of circumstances, he can help during the end of the conference season and the tourney.

  • @justanotherfan Fortunately I think he just needs to be a capable back-up next year.

  • Staff visiting again today. Go lock him up!

  • Marquette peeps think they are out?

Cal met with Herro, obviously related to Q. Chris Fisher drinks UK koolaid every day and is the only guy making claims he can’t back up with information

Marquette people think they are out.

And yes Texas just took another committment in this class. Brings them to 14 scholarship players even with Bamba and Jones presumably going pro after this season. That’s already one over the limit.

  • @BShark Well then that should pretty much be a wrap then I would think. - -With Calipari visiting Herro again today I would think he thinks They are not going to land Grimes. – ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Tifwiw but a poster on the shiver that nailed details about the Dotson commitment before they were public is saying that it’s done to KU, Grimes has given the staff a verbal commitment.

  • bill self is eating this recruiting class up!!!

  • @BeddieKU23

When you consider the transfers that will be eligible, it will be a monster class and with experience to boot. I wish the ranking services would have one that includes transfers since it is a truer indicator of the class strength.

Yeah with today’s landscape everyone is taking transfers so maybe including them in rankings would be something that places start doing in the future. It looks likely we’ll end up with a Top 5 class even without the transfers.

  • @BeddieKU23

KU is currently ranked 2 or 3 depending on publication; with Grimes and one more player KU likely ends up 1 or 2. Interesting that current Rivals #33 Kentucky has only 1 - 5 star recruit signed to date but several prospects in the pipeline…maybe prospects are hearing rumors about the FBI investigation related to them, same with #20 Arizona with only 2 left signed.

    Other schools of interest to KU fans #28 UCLA with only 2 - 3 stars, #43 MU with 1 - 4 star and 2 - 3 stars, a big drop from its current class, #55 WVU 2 - 3 stars, #59 Baylor 1 - 4 star, #63 Wichita State 3 - 3 stars. #81 KSU 1 - 3 star. Louisville and South Carolina not listed in the top 100.

  • @JayHawkFanToo

Duke will probably be #1 when they land RJ Barrett.

Zion will move up Kentucky a ton (if they land him) and they are likely taking another 5 star or borderline 5 in Keldon Johnson or Tyler Herro. They won’t last at 33 but its weird to see them without a ton of early commits.

KU could land at #1 if they get Grimes and another top prospect (Zion or Langford) being the two we have a chance with. A top recruiting class for KU also says we are losing a ton so there’s always a give and take to a flashy class.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Arizona lose Shaq’s son (to Kentucky). There’s been rumors he might not be fully committed anymore.

UCLA could land Moses Brown which moves them up. I believe both their recruits are both Top 100 kids. We offered their one commit Bernard. They also are in the running for a few other 4 star recruits.

Spring will change a lot of classes as always
