Adidas likely renewing partnership with Kansas athletics and SZ has a $50 million dollar donor for renovations at memorial

    Kinda interesting, I know some folks here think that adidas sets us back. Personally I think if it made that much difference we’d be back at nike. Also who his the booster? Booth?

  • Does Brent Venables want a job? It’s going to take an upgrade on the field to fill that nice newly proposed stadium. I hope it happpen (stadium renovation) and soon. It sure couldn’t hurt recruiting, but I doubt it’d make a huge difference either. Really the only way to put butts in the seats for more than one game is to win.

  • @dylans i think we have to give Beaty all of next year first but I’d take Brent for sure. Heard Leavitt on here a time or two and outside of a year or 2 dont think hes all that great, how about Tressel? Wasnt his ban up a few years ago? Some people think we should move the stadium, personally I love the setting.

  • Beaty needs all 5 years on his initial contract regardless of W-L record. KU is still behind on scholarship numbers and firing Beaty at any point before the conclusion of year 5 resets the clock on getting scholarship numbers back to normal.

    As for Zenger, if firing him negatively impacts the stadium renovation in any way, it’s not worth it. Getting the stadium renovated is the absolute top priority for KU Athletics and preparing for a probable move to the B10 after the Grant of Rights expires.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 I don’t think it would.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10

    I would not think the money for the stadium is tied to Zenger staying as AD.

    Do you realize the football team has not won a single road game since Zenger became AD in 2011?

  • @kjayhawks I actually agree with others. Beaty needs 5 years minimum. He started in a two year hole. It would screw over the next coach to fire Beaty at this point. Lets see how far he can take the team with all his guys. At some point you have to sink or swim, but he really started at a disadvantage with that depleted roster.

    I too like the stadium location. Renovate/demolish and rebuild right there.

    So Gill, Weis, Bowen and Beatty all have not won any KU road games.

  • @mayjay I remember that game well, Sharp ran all over them guys and Ressing was Ressing as we cruised to a 34-7 win. Man that seems like a life time and a half ago to me. Some how we can get can to those days.

  • @kjayhawks didn’t one of our guys have a brother on the other team?

  • @JayHawkFanToo @mayjay Weis crippled this program so unbelievably bad SZ is one of the luckiest people alive to still have a job after that. Turner Gill never got a fair shot and could recruit pretty good. I always find myself thinking after the success Gill has had at Liberty if we would’ve made him get a new defensive coordinator and strength coach after year 2 would he still be here today? @Crinsonorblue22 not sure on the relative

  • If I were a typical AD hired to turn KU football around, I would keep it clean and losing till I:

    1.) FIRED GILL to end the old culture;

    2.) HIRED WEIS to be a broom, while I quietly cleaned out the skeletons;

    3.) Used CBernie to pretend to deal with realignment, but actually delay it;

    4.) Hired Beatty cheap to recruit what he could and build connections in Texas;

    5.) Eased CBernie out once all the skeletons were disinfected by quietly using Easy Classgate at UNC on her;

    6.) HIRED a new chancellor who was a proxy of my biggest donor/private oligarchy wanting to take over KU through the back door of the athletic department and school of medicine;

    7.) used contract letting for a massive stadium refit to cement the new order fiscally;

    8.) Kick Beatty upstairs to assistant AD in charge of a new post called “Asst. AD in Charge of Recruiting Development;”

    9.) Hire a top coach for an unprecedented amount of money; and then

    10.) start “enhanced” recruiting.

    Along the way I would keep a low profile, emphasize Self and basketball, and try not to get fired for the long term rebuild that the cleanup of a toxic super fund football program had required.

    Fortunately, I’m just a basketball fan and not your typical AD that would have had to execute such a long, laborious, and unpleasant procedure.

  • @kjayhawks

    I met Coach Gill and he is a really nice and decent individual but as a HC he was horrible. He basically let the inmates run the asylum and discipline was extremely bad and lax and academics were on the way to sanction to the program. His answer was to impose curfews that were not even enforced.

    Liberty is a completely different program where most players have a religious background and come to attend school first and play football second. It is the ideal program for someone like Gill; KU and by extension a Power 5 conference program is not.

  • Venables would be a huge upgrade to the current regime. His defensive prowess would immediately make a difference at KU

  • I don’t think Venables would take the KU job but maybe with a new stadium and if the money was right…

    Agreed, Venables will have a big-time job, not a KU type job. But that’s the type of coach coming up that would be needed to turn the football program around. Beatty has laid the ground work and done a great job building from the ashes.

  • If you think about it a guy like PJ Fleck would have been the perfect hire for KU.

    😞 😞 😞

    Huge fan of Fleck, think he’s gonna end up being big time.

  • What about seriously going after Les Miles? He’s not a long term solution, but I’m not sure we will ever have that here without it being an alumni hire. Miles could at least continue to build upon the Louisiana pipeline Beaty has built.

    Miles or, even better, Chip Kelly would be home runs. Not sure if either would take the job though.

  • @BShark Idk that you could get Kelly. But I think you could sell Les. He’s so old I’m just not sure he will get any great job offers. Seems like a perfect fit. A P5 school that he would get while it is on the rise. He would get to keep using pipelines he had before. If he could just get it to a point where he could hand it off and it not be a total disaster, I’d be pumped.

    I think boosters would be willing to pay Chip Kelly $7m a year though, so who knows.

  • @Kcmatt7 Exactly, Les could just hopefully get the program up to respectability, and really one of the biggest keys is adding OL/DL talent.

  • 5 year plan to rebuild/renovate the stadium. Adidas is also basically doubling the annual value of the apparel contract with a $191 mil. over 14 year deal. KU now has the 5th richest per year apparel deal in the country and is the richest deal among Adidas programs which means KU is now the face of Adidas college apparel by about $6 million per year. I think Adidas is the right company for now based on being the flagship program the way UCLA is for Under Armour and Ohio St. and Texas are for Nike. Being top dog by that margin is a very deal and I’m excited to see where that partnership goes now that KU is the true face of Adidas.

    The renderings for the new stadium look amazing. Thank you David Booth for your continued support of all things Kansas Athletics with your $50 million donation.

    Yes, Mark Mangino coached the last KU football team to win a road game.
