Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux

If Dedrick almost left for the NBA, what are the chances he stays at KU for two years since he will have to sit one year?

@BeddieKU23 AND? - -Your thoughts as of today of that happening? - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
I think he stays. Walker wants immediate playing time
-
Walker isn’t coming to KU.
-
@JayHawkFanToo You mean sit for one year and not play a game? Or sit for one year and play one year?
If he sits one year and plays one year and then leaves, I’m totally ok with that. Because it means he had a helluva season.
-
Missouri fans hangin that crootin banner.
I don’t think they end up with Knox.
-
From what I remember Lawson wanted to be a OAD but he didn’t perform well at the combine and came back to play with his brother in the end. The scouts were pretty bullish on his chances. From the games I saw Dedric looked much improved but I think he would get the same evaluation. If they really transfer i think they will stay the 2 years
-
People freaking out because Missouri will probably end up with a better recruiting class than KU.
-
My question was that considering how close he is/was to leaving for the NBA now, what are the chances that he sits one year and plays at least one year? This would delay his departure by two full years, right? Wouldn’t he be better off being the big shot at Memphis for one more year and then leaving for the NBA?
-
This whole situation is purely about the dad. He was promised a big position on Pastner’s staff whereas Tubby gave him a small meaningless position. So he was completely sideways with Tubby and they couldn’t work it out.
-
Yet another helicopter dad screwing up his kid’s future.
-
@JayHawkFanToo So Pastner hired their dad to land them both. And then Tubby demoted the dad. So it seems as though Tubby caused some relationship issues or something. So if Pastner was still at Memphis Dedric would probably be playing a 3rd year at Memphis instead.
Sounds kind of like Porter’s situation. Using his son’s to try and skip the line and all the hard work it takes to become a really good coach at that level.
-
Andrew Slater: “Expect Allen to Kansas.”
-
Which would be in line with what the NC St people are saying…
-
Norm hitting the trail hard today. Stopping in to see Juiston and Allen.
-
Well, I grew more than somewhat exhausted while scanning the posts on this thread. My 2 cents: Bill Self declared that he really was searching for a dependable point guard; and I presume a recruit who can play immediately, not having to sit out a year. I look to see that need fulfilled.
-
Good news with Bragg leaving. Come on down Shakur
-
JUCO prospect Shakur Juiston (Hutch) will visit UNLV this weekend, per a source
From another site. (phog)
I heard from a guy who is friends with a Hutch assistant coach that Iowa State and KU are still the leaders
The dorms the Hutch players live in are not that great (and oddly, Coach Eck lives there with them), so I would have to think that a Lawrence campus visit and trip to McCarthy Hall and Allen Field House would by an eye-opener.*
-
5 star recruit from Illinois reopens his recruiting. He backed out after Underwood was hired. He says he is still interested in the U of I but wants to explore other options. His name is Jeremiah Tilmon and he’s a 4 or 5 star recruit depending on the scouting service. Not sure if he’s interested in KU or vice-versa, but it’s always interesting to consider.
-
KU was involved before.
He’s going to end up at Missouri of all places. Their new coach, Martin has a connection with Tilmon. And Michael Porter and Tilmon played AAU ball together for 2 seasons. Porter has been in his ear
-
Already a done deal to Missouri.
-
Bill will be there with Norm to meet with Thomas Allen. Um yeah…
-
Bill says he wants a quick twitch 4…comment appears to be aimed at Juiston
-
Definitely fits the bill. Among Juiston’s strengths are driving from the perimeter into the lane and taking contact and finishing. Great athlete as well.
-
So yeah the VIP rumour from 247 awhile back was that Bragg would transfer and Juiston would commit to KU. Seems fine to just openly post it now given the amount of time that has passed and since Bragg has announced his transfer.
-
This person will deserve major kudos if correct.
The first part Bragg transferring was the worst kept secret ever (so not much “inside” knowledge there). Being right about Juiston would be something
-
@BeddieKU23 I’ve been thinking that for awhile!
-
Considering how many time I have paid my way to Vegas, I would not pass on a freebie trip there so I don’t blame Juiston from visiting UNLV.
I know there are a number of players becoming available and there might be more in the near future; however, if KU can sign Juiston and Allen and no one else, I would be very happy.
This is the time of the year when Coach Self does what he does best…prepare to be surprised.
-
Playing time too. I think 2 or 3 players left UNLV from their already rebuilding project. He would play a lot for them.
-
Juco report is reporting Juiston favors KU & ISU
-
Good point. Playing time is always a big plus; however, he has a much bigger stage and exposure at KU. Superior players are not afraid of competition and the ones that are afraid usually are not NBA material.
Juiston is a unique case given the conditions that led him to JuCo. To me, JuCo play level is relatively low and not necessarily a good indicator of how the player will do in Division I play, but again, Juiston is not the typical JuCo player. His low ceiling appears to be Jamari Traylor, who Coach Self liked and played a fair amount, and his high ceiling is unknown. If Juiston can do as much as Jamari did, it would be pretty good.
-
So KU might actually be in it for Tilmon. Not holding my breath and this is a messy messy messy recruitment.
-
@JayHawkFanToo what lead him to juco?
-
Someone posted before that he had serious family issues? Maybe that poster can re-post the information since he is now a distinct probability for KU.
-
@JayHawkFanToo he walked by his brothers dead body after he was gunned down. His brother was an innocent bystander. I’m not sure what that had to do w/juiston going to juco.
-
Hard to focus on school with something like that happening.
-
@BShark where are you hearing that?
-
I imagine that is a very trying experience that stays around for long time. I asked the exact same question before and I seem to recall there was a good explanation and I believe what you mentioned could have been part of it but I do not recall if there was more to it
-
Internet.
Twitter and 247 sports. I’m not putting much stock in it yet… I’d still bet on Missouri.
-
Thread getting long again…maybe time for…Recruiting Master Thread Part Trois?
-
@JayHawkFanToo @Crimsonorblue22
Here is an article about the whole thing. This one doesn’t mention it but I think he went all the way to Kansas because his mom wanted him away from NJ. Dunno why he didn’t go Div 1. Maybe needed to do certain academic work?
-
@mayjay Man O Man, what a family saga! If this is Self’s recruit with the fast twitch muscles I hope he settles in Lawrence. Well aware that jr. cllg. stars often find it very difficult to fit in and adjust to high caliber Div. 1 play, I can’t see us going wrong with this kid. April and early May have become exciting recruiting periods for players to fit and fill slots on existing scholarship listings. We are bound to see a couple of key players move to Lawrence at semester’s end.
-
Certainly puts things in perspective. Jamari came from a somewhat similar background and, even if he never plays ball again, now he has a degree that will allow him to become a contributing member of society; a very positive outcome.
-
@JayHawkFanToo The degree is nice. The man is better because of his Kansas experience and that is even more important. Jamari was given an opportunity and made the most of it. I’m very proud of him and his accomplishments.
-
Juiston sounds like a high character kid who has/is overcome a great loss. This is the type of person I find easy to root for regardless of where they go to school. I hope to see him in Crimson and Blue!
I wish more of these HS kids would give KU a chance out of the gate. (Not aimed at Juiston) The amount of transfers and the fact that KU is having to look to the Juco ranks is mildly disturbing. I realize it’s the new norm, but I wasn’t overly happy when Pierce left after his Jr. year. I miss teams comprised of very talented 4 year players. Bill’s system allows for more depth each year they run it.
