HC Openings for Our KU Assistants
-
Reading into senior night comments and Howard’s current farewell tour (seemibgly) on twitter, he might be gone.
Anyone else reading into this the same?
-
@Lulufulu That could be soon!
-
@CaptnMo That was my impression too. The players were saying goodbye to Howard in more ways than one.
-
-
@mayjay looks like he is saying bye to a lot of people but most of them seem to be seniors so maybe he is just giving them Shout outs since they didn’t get big speech in AFG?
-
Does anyone think Jerrance Howard has what it takes to be a Div. 1 head coach? We are talking about Snacks.
-
@ralster no he’s definitely not ready for that. But he can recruit and maybe he’s ready for new tutelage?
-
@ralster Yes, but not anywhere out of a big city. He should maximally leverage his recruiting experience, contacts and access–Chi-town!
-
Players genuinely like him and confide in him.
-
I briefly looked at Snacks’ twitter and just saw him saying goodbye to the senior managers and the senior players… Nothing stood out as indication he was going anywhere… Did I miss something?
-
Do we really know how much coaching or if he does any at all? I got the impression that he did a lot of recruit visits and as @Crimsonorblue22 indicated helps the kids off the court but not necessarily a lot of coaching.
-
@JayHawkFanToo I didn’t mean he didn’t do any coaching. I believe he does.
-
If he helps the kids with off the court stuff. Here’s to hoping things improve in that Dept. For the foreseeable future. This year has been rough in that area. Although, I admit, as much as I hate to… It seems as though someone really does have it out for this group. Sticks in my crawl…
-
I didn’t mean “off the court stuff” like that. I meant he’s a coach they can talk too, confide in.
-
I was only referring to having a good relationship with the players and not the…not coaching much…part.
-
Well, eventhough I’ve questioned Snack’s coaching credibility, I dont wish him ill. It will be interesting to see what he can make of his career.
I have seen him routinely saying stuff to players just coming out of the game, back to the bench. I do think its neat he may know from his Illini days as a player, what Coach Self wants. He could voice it easily, and maybe easier to relate to for some of the KU kids, compared to Bill Self. Just a thought–but this is the only thing that would make him able to function as an asst on Self’s bench.
-
Anyone who doesn’t think Snacks deserves to be on the staff seriously underestimates Bill’s ability to find good assistants. Howard is looked at as one of the better young assistants in the country. His ability to recruit automatically sets him up for a future HC job and we are lucky to have him. On top of that, I’m confident a man who played 4 years of D1 basketball knows the game well enough to teach players. Especially when working under Bill and Larry, it would be hard to think he hasn’t learned a few things.
-
I Like Coach Howard, feel he gets a lot of unnecessary criticism thrown his way for one incident. His recruiting is starting to pay off and he’s still young enough to relate to this generation of kids. I see no reason why he won’t continue to pull his weight as an Assistant here.
-
If Townsend, or Norm leave, bring back Miles. He did wonders working with Frank and Devonte.
-
@wrwlumpy when Townsend did hawktalk he said he loves this job! I can’t ever see him leaving. I think we bury the 3 of them together.
-
I THINK NO ASSISTANTS IS GONING NOWERE

He’ll get a shot someday pretty soon. Probably mid to low major level. He’s young and he’s been on staff with both Self and Brown so he’s learned some things. I could see get a Missouri Valley job in the near future.
-
Bradley?
-
@jaybate-1.0 no
-
@approxinfinity I understand this to be at least partly in jest, but has anyone else noticed how Tyler will occasionally leave the bench, right after a timeout, say, and have a quick chat with the refs? I just saw it in Austin, but one of my friends said that he had noticed Tyler doing this in other games, as well.
