Big-12 Tourney as of today
-
@BeddieKU23 I was hoping to play either ISU or OSU in the 2nd round (assuming of course that we win round 1) and let Baylor and WVU beat up on each other. Potentially playing Baylor and then WVU would be tough right before the real tourney. But you play whomever you are matched up with.
-
Having Baylor, a pretty highly-ranked team, in the semi-final allows us to “process” (= lose) with little risk to the #1 seed - producing an extra day of rest.
If the #1 seed were a lock, I would be tempted to “process” the first game anyway…
Just don’t care for / about the Big 12 Tournament.
-
Yeah seeds 2-5 are still fluid as of today. Nobody from the bottom 5 of the conference can really make any movement. Oklahoma St could lose its last 2 games and still be a #5 seed in our half.
Oklahoma St is arguably the hottest team in the conference. If we were to sweep the regular season series on Saturday we are possibly playing them twice in a week if they were to beat Baylor in the Quarterfinal. Not exactly the situation we would want, its really difficult to beat a team 3 times, much less playing a team that is playing its best basketball and is a really good offensive team.

B12 tournament is the one time of year that I really don’t care if KU loses.
-
@Hawk8086 from here on out they ALL are going to be tough, just have to bring it every time. - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
@BShark Ya me neither. - -We’ve proven who the REAL champ is over the period of 4 months and round robin schedule, not being crowned a champ over a 4 day weekend and not facing everyone in the tourney. They can have their weekend championship, I’ll take the regular season REAL championship any day of the week, anytime, any where, - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Exactly my man.
-
If Iowa State loses at WVU, they are the four seed.
If WVU loses, they are the four seed.
I’d rather see ISU our 4 seed with some revenge on their mind for the Allen loss. Can’t imagine we’d let Chucker Burton and company punk us again
-
3 games 3 days. I don’t think it bodes well for a deep tourney run.
-
same format every year
-
Good time here to rest our legs, one game in 9 days for the first time in months.
-
Villanova lost in the finals of the Big East last year in a grueling game as I recall to Seton Hall which was their 3rd game in 3 days. It seemed to work out just fine for them. I am fine if we lose in the Big 12 tourney as it won’t hurt our #1 seed but if we end up making it to the finals that is fine. It is a win win as far as I am concerned.
-
Yea, just no injuries, Please!
-
@BeddieKU23 I know that. But this year, more than recent past, the team has played with a very limited bench. Many of the guys are nicked up.
-
@joeloveshawks is it apples to apples as far as depth goes with the Villanova team last year? And comparing the big 12 season and tourney to the big east season and tourney as far as “grueling” goes, I don’t think that is a fair comparison, but could be wrong.
Obviously if you play you want to win.

Everyone said that we would be worn out by the end of the season with FM and DG playing 30+ minutes this year, and attributed the end of game beakdown vs Villanova to that.
Seems to me the ends of several big games with 36+, even 40+, minutes have worked out just fine. Not a recipe for long-term success but for a few weeks I think our guys have the toughness Self has always wanted, and we can outlast and out stamina anyone. A huge advantage that is little recognized.
Since the conference tourney is just gravy, I think they will play looser, have fun, and win going away or bag it if one goes south big-time. In the NCAA it will be back to business as usual. We just can’t let tourney games get completely out of hand while doing our Ali rope-a-dope thing.
-
@Blown They have a solid 5 days rest after the tournament if we make it that far. If we win it, all it proves is our lack of depth isn’t even a real problem.
-
Depth is only an issue in the tournament if you have guys foul out.
-
@Kcmatt7 didn’t hurt us last year
-
@Crimsonorblue22 yeah, I think sometimes things are blown out of proportion as far as depth and everything. There is plenty of rest after the Big 12 tournament where it shouldnt make a difference.
-
I prefer not to play WVU until the championship game. I think we have the hardest time with them.
-
@drgnslayr Iowa State then WVU would be brutal, but the tourney is hard also. Good prep
-
I want to play ISU again. We need a little revenge…
And I hope we get stuck playing WVU in the finals. It always helps us to face a team that really guts it out on the court.
But… I don’t want to take for granted that we make it to the finals.
-
B12 tournament goal: no injuries
-
@drgnslayr anybody notice Ahmad hasn’t played the last the 3 games, heard back problems. He killed us.
-
@BeddieKU23 I’m with you. I’d much rather see us match up against Iowa State then WV, I just don’t like our match ups against WV. I for sure would take my chances against Iowa State. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
@Blown I dunno, like they have been saying on the sports talk shows and Coach self said, like they off today - -probably tomorrow play Saturday then off probably again Sun, Mon, light walk through Tues, then after the Big 12 tourney won’t play again if in the midwest till the following Fri so off Monday Tues, light walk through Wedns, plus practices themselves are lighter - they said they think with those conditions they should be fine. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
OU is the best team now in the play in games.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 ya, they say he is having back spasms. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
