Espn is neat.

Pretty cool. I thought the Morri were Jrs for some reason, makes more sense why I was surprised when they left.
I hope the lack of national exposure doesn’t hurt Frank’s POY chances, but the whole game was on ESPN even if the after game hype on ESPN.com is minimal. Or Bills recruiting.
I also hope that KU flys under the radar into the National Championship. I’d rather not play with the biggest bullseye. Leave that to Kentucky, UNC or Duke, we already know KU is better.
-
@Blown Ah but you should of watch College basketball live, last night & this morning. They was talking about what an accomplishment KU has made, and comparing to UCLA, both commentators saying they thought in this day and age that KU’s 13 straight was more and harder to come by, pretty interesting. - -Listing some of the things that has taken place since the streak started, you know going back like : George W Bush getting re-elected, some guy named Hung competing in America has talent, umm the show The Apprentice with Trump starting, it was pretty cool.
One thing we know is this will probably NEVER be repeated again in the for seeable future. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

@dylans yes, you are exactly right my friend. - -It was on ESPN 2 last night and again this morning. - -They re-played the KU-TCU game this morning also, but as you say they give a lot of props last night and this morning. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

I’m waiting at the airport right now.
-
@tis4tim Yes, it is certainly more likely to have 5,000 people waiting at the airport when the team is returning from somewhere. Do you see another 4,999 KU fans anywhere?
Reminds me of George Carlin’s Al Sleet, the Hippy Dippy Weatherman, from the late '60s or '70s:
“The temperature reading at the airport is 60 degrees–which is stupid, because I don’t know anyone who lives at the airport…”
-
The program is an Oklahoma State season gone nuts (2003) from having won 16 in a row.
-
@tis4tim anxious to HEAR your take!

I think I have to agree with @mayjay here. The biggest CBB stories last night to me were
- Villanova losing to Butler
- Duke upset on the last second shot by Syracuse
- Cal blowing the lead and losing to Oregon
- KU winning the 13th title.
Part of that is that KU, going into last night, was up 3 games with 4 to play. Losing the streak at this point was going to require losing two more home games, plus losing at Texas and at Oklahoma State, plus have Baylor sweep their last 4, including a trip to Hilton and a home game against West Virginia.
Given the situation and the schedules, the chances KU wasn’t getting at least a share of 13 at this point were basically 0. Baylor is likely to lose at least one game and KU is unlikely to lose more than two of their remaining games. 13 was pretty secure.
It’s a big story, to be sure, but that story was going to be written either last night, or on Saturday, or next week…
Cal losing to Oregon was a big deal. For one, Cal was in a position to move a seed line with the win. That would have been a very high quality win. They lead basically until the last three minutes of the game. Huge loss for Cal. Big win for Oregon to stay in the conversation for a one seed.
Duke was also in that one seed conversation, but the loss probably takes them out of that talk and could get 'Cuse into the field with a strong finish. That Duke loss might cost the ACC a top seed as a conference because if Duke or Louisville wins the conference tournament, but UNC wins the regular season, there’s a chance that all of those teams have 7 or more losses. KU, Gonzaga, Villanova and either Oregon or Arizona as potential number ones with better resumes than a mystery ACC team (with the Pac-12 winner getting sent out of region as the lowest #1.
Villanova’s loss was big because it probably moves Butler up a seed line by sweeping the defending champs. That’s not something to take lightly.
In the grand scheme, KU’s win was the least impactful of the four major storylines, and probably the least surprising given that I doubt many people would have picked TCU to upset KU in the Fieldhouse.

What?
Kidding. We used earplugs!
The entire night was amazing. Yeah, we started out slow again and seeing Josh writhing around on the floor holding his ankle really took the air out of the place for a spell, but watching us systematically dismantle a TCU team that played pretty darn well was great to see. (That Jaylen Fisher kid, BTW, is going to be a menace for the duration of his college career. He was in complete control last night and he’s just a freshman. Very impressed with him.) Bragg was terrific minus a turnover or two and some non-existent help defense, but our whole team had some pretty egregious lapses at times. We shot it pretty well, hit free throws, had some unbelievable blocks and some ridiculous dunks courtesy of one Josh Jackson. Mason was Mason and Devonte stepped up with some timely shooting as well. A very satisfying way to capture #13.
It was also great to see Brandon get his jersey up in the rafters though I admit I didn’t recognize him at first with the hair do. Nice to see Mario and Brady in attendance too. And of course it was a thrill to watch the boys hoist the trophy and don the shirts and caps.
Best of all, it was great to hear my daughter whoop it up in the second half after she got her second wind. A three-hour event is a pretty long deal for a 5-year-old, but she did really well overall aside from an ill-timed bathroom break, but that’s just part of the deal when you take a young child to a sporting event. It was fun hearing her yell “Let’s go, Mason!” on a couple of occasions. I didn’t know she knew any of the players’ names, but it reaffirmed my obviously great parenting skills.
How was your evening?

@tis4tim I loved it! Brings me great joy!

I smile when I see 'Cuse fans storming the court. It tells me that even their fans know their program has fallen.
Imagine what it would take to have Kansas fans storm the court?
We could hold the NCAA National Title game in AFH where we beat UK 150-50 and we still wouldn’t do it… but we sure would be applauding loudly from our respective seats!
-
Thank you for starting this thread… it got me thinking and I am starting a new thread on how we need to TAKE ACTION NOW!
-
@drgnslayr I recall about a decade ago when the Badgers got beat at Indiana and the loosier uh, hoosier fans stormed the court. UW was ranked highly and Indiana had fallen on hard times. It was pretty interesting that UW had been quite good for long enough and that Indiana had been relatively lousy for long enough that beating UW was a big deal for them.

Because the E stands for EAST. They’re idiots. We hate them, but keep watching which is the irksome part of it all.
And syracuse fans are idiots for storming the court. For a 2nd time this year.
I know, right!? 'Cuse is a friggin blue blood for cryin out loud!! Storming the court against any team should be beneath them. Does Duke or KU or Kentucky or UNC storm courts after big wins? Don’t think so.
I say 'Cuse is a blue blood, cuz they are. Not quite the caliber of us or the other guys but still! Its stupid for a student body of a major div 1 program to court storm over a big win.
Boeheim has been the coach there for how long? 35 years? give or take? He has won how many hundreds of games? Has at least one Title that I can recall.
No. Court storming is obsolete at a program of that caliber. Should be obsolete.

Just like in 2008 when UCLA, UNC, Memphis were picked more often than KU to win it all.
Just like 2012 when basically no one thought that KU team would make it that far.
-
@Lulufulu The worst thing that ever happened was Syracuse catching lightning in a bottle and winning it all.
Firstly, it was against us which is still my painfullest KU loss.
Secondly it gave east coast media fools reason to elevate Blowheim to legend status which I don’t think he is. He’s coached forever which is why he has a lot of wins.
Third it gave east coast media the chance to elevate Syracuse to blue blood status. They haven’t won enough to warrant that elite status.
My dislike of Duke is different than my dislike of Syracuse. We’re peers with Duke. Syracuse is just an annoying little child that doesn’t deserve to be talked about when we’re talking about bluebloods.
-
Kansas, Kentucky, and North Carolina are the 3 true blue bloods of college basketball. Duke is on the same street because they were a successful program with multiple Final Four’s in their pre-Coach K history, but no titles so they don’t have that prestige. Duke is on the second tier with Indiana and UCLA. These are the programs whose history is almost exclusively tied to a single coach over a long period of time. The third tier to me would be programs like UConn, Arizona, Syracuse, Georgetown, Louisville, Villanova, and Michigan St. These are programs with national titles in their history, but not necessarily the consistency or volume of titles of the top 2 tiers of teams, teams that have been consistently good for a long time, but lack the volume of titles of other programs.

Officially 101 less than he thinks, and in reality 101 more than the NCAA thinks.
-
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 Like your list and your reasoning, but UCLA is the most exceptional exception in basketball history. If the program were slightly better in the 21st century there would be much less talk of “second tier”.
-
@ParisHawk I view UCLA and Duke in pretty much the same way. 95% of UCLA’s basketball history is tied to a 15 year window in the 60’s and 70’s. That 15 year run is the single greatest run of dominance in major college sports history, but there’s just not a lot else outside of that window. The 1995 title and Howland’s run in the 2000’s is all they have outside of that.
95% Duke’s history is tied exclusively to Coach K. They had Final Four teams before him, and we’ll see how they fare after Coach K retires, but Coach K is essentially Duke basketball just like Wooden is essentially UCLA basketball.
Using the analogy of a neighborhood, UCLA and Duke have houses on the same street as KU, UK, and UNC, just at the other end of the street.
-
ESPN: Monopoly Corrupts. Absolute near monopoly corrupts near absolutely.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 I saw your point and still see it. It’s just a matter of how much weight we each give to “the single greatest run of dominance in major college sports history,” Again, if there were just a bit more achievement this century there would be less doubt.
Similarly, I weigh Embiid’s brief shining moment more heavily than others, even if it was cut short.
