Kansas Jayhawks @ NC State Wolfpack Game Chat Sat. 12/13 4:30 CT

Nice birthday present for me to see KU get a quality road win tonight!
-
@patoh3 Did it even actually hit his nose? Not a great camera angle. Looked like a flop
-
OK, KU wins, but 50 min of bench time and only 6 shots, 2 pts. And, Tiller's effort and box score line suck too. But a Win after a week off.
-
We won, but I feel I have to vent about the officiating. People will say, "Oh, the foul count was even thus the officiating was fair." NO! NC State fouled us on almost every possession and it NEVER got called. We actually defended them without fouling, largely because Tiller and Flory's length make it so we don't have to foul. Had the refs called NC State for their fouls (even if they only call the egregious ones and let the ticky tack ones go), I think we would have coasted to a comfortable win. Oh well, in the end it was better for us. We got experience with adversity and close game situations.
-
DP's absence is turning KU into a very good team. Which is good, because you can stick a fork in him. He's done. We will not see him play the rest of the season.
-
Flory got 2 fouls the first 2 minutes, but none the rest of the game. He played all 20 minutes of the 2nd half and all 5 minutes of overtime, without fouling. That's encouraging.
-
Buddy from KU lives in NC and was at the game. He sent the following text after Melvin made his third 3: āCouncil. Missed his first 3. Guy next to me says there's a reason he's open. So I repeated that a lotā.
And then 6-7 times after that. What a performance!

Darryn Peterson Highlights vs. NC State (17 Pts, 5 Rebs, 4 Asts)

Iām missed most of the game, was able to listen to parts of it. So DP is hurt yet again or what is the story there? Council found the bottom of the net I see.

DP played 31 minutes (season high) but his hammy got tight late. Itās pretty clear to me heās just not quite in game shape yet. The burst is almost there, but needs a little more time to come back entirely.

lol

@FarmerJayhawk okay so nothing serious still just working thru tightness, he hasnāt looked explosive at all in a Jayhawk uniform, not even a little. So hopefully that comes overtime.
-
@kjayhawks2.0 in all honesty, he's running out of time. The season is almost 1/3 over. Its a real shame that KU will not benefit from a player of that potential caliber
-
Manomanomanoman. Whew. Someone at the party mentioned the game going to OT, so I got home to watch and watched anyway but without any tension. But then i watched the OT with a lot of tension.
I guess I'll be forced to take back what I wrote about Melvin Council and glad the refs had the sense to not slap him with a flagrant on that inadvertant elbow. But where did that outburst come from? Goodness me, if you had him going all downtown Terry Brown on UNCState tonight I hope you bought one of those billion dollar prize lotto tickets too.
Seeing the team win after losing DP was a relief of course. This is a team with some resilient players.
2 bench points. No bueno.
11 games now, no opponent has hit 30% from 3 against us. It's one reason why hope is building for a more positive end to the season.
Did Council really score 36 points?
Tough environment to play in.

I hated the announcers. Glad I was rushing through the recording every chance so I didn't hear everything. The 'clearly a flagrant foul' comment was ridiculous.
So here's how I found out about the game going to OT. My KU roomie has a nephew who is a student manager for the team. He was playing NCState in the manager game earlier and got his nose broken. My roomie sent me a picture from his nephews broken nose with the comment that it was broken just like Melvins elbow against that guy. So i watched the whole game thinking Melvin was gonna get kicked out for a flagrant. Was very relieved the refs, who weren't great, weren't listening to Jay Williams and let it go. I mean when a guy is trying to intentionally foul, if you get whacked in the nose in the process it's kind of like your own fault.
Also, how can Melvin have a game like that and then miss two crunch time FT's that nearly cost us the game?
-
Melvin was amazing. He played so hard and logged 43 minutes. As he missed the second front end 1-and-1, I said to my wife that he may just cost us this game. She reminded me that we wouldn't have been in this game if it wasn't for his offense and that I should focus on what he did all game, not just a couple of plays when he surely was tired. He has been so fun to watch this season.
