What I wonder... it's that most of our team didn't hesitate at all to move into the portal. I'm not for certain, but do the rest of the upper D1 teams lose this many?

I smell a run! (better buy more toilet paper)

          @drgnslayr

Kentucky and UNC have lost comparable amount to the portal for example.

It's not uncommon at this point for teams, even top teams, to lose most of their roster every season now. KU keeping a big chunk of its roster last offseason was more of an anomaly than this offseason is.

@drgnslayr Well, you don't know how long they have thought about it, and coaches may also have advised a few to do it. But one thing to consider...why would anyone hesitate if thinking about the portal? Only a few super-elites could be successful in keeping potential suitors in suspense. The vast majority would benefit by seeing many offers early.

If I remember right Miami in 2023 I believe made the FF and lost the whole roster in the portal.

He went to High School in a neighboring district to me. He left High School early and went to a D2 school before transferring to USF. His dad is Curtis Enis the Penn State and Chicago Bears football player.

He improved his shooting since high school but tends to be an all-or-nothing chucker(0-11 from 3 in ncaa tournament game vs Louisville). Doesn't create for others.

Shooting and defensive metrics say he can play as a rotational guard at high majors, maybe bigger role depending on team role and play style. Had high usage this past season which would be the concern moving up and likely not starting here. We could do far worse with a guy who has good production on offense and low turnover %

With everyone out. I am starting to think Kohl can be convinced to stay.

J.P Estrella was thought to be a possibility at the 5 committed to Michigan.

Johnson of Colorado is a bidding war that doesn't appear KU is in.

Taylor of UNC Asheville might not visit now.

KU did zoom with Texas Tech's freshman guard Jaylen Petty.

I think the starting 5 of Michigan were all first year transfers.

I know we are all singing the "doom and gloom."

I'm now thinking differently. What we have is a very rare situation for Self! He can build his entire team from scratch! For example... what if Elmarko and McDowell stuck around? Those guys know the system, but we already know their limitations. Having many of these players still around limits what we can go out and get. Self is free, except for his signed HS recruits, to create his vision! I just hope it includes great athleticism, physical strength and size, and good perimeter shooting!

Our big advantage in the portal... it is mostly about money! Surely, Self will have a big piggybank for this task, and we are Kansas with a HOFr coach. I'm involved in several team chats besides KU, and several have already mentioned the THREAT from Kansas, because we need so many positions and have the clout to go get the players.

I smell a run! (better buy more toilet paper)

@drgnslayr that’s is a possibility for sure and I hope it happens. I just don’t trust Bill and this staff ability to create a roster good enough to win conference and national championships. Like I’ve said before right now the top teams not only the country but our own conference are bigger, faster, stronger and more athletic. Flory may have been those things against most of the teams we played he was just inexperienced. At the other 4 spots went heavily the other way and the guys on the bench of top teams were unmeasurable levels above ours. We may have had the worst bench in the Bill Self era with Mari and Elmarko getting most of those minutes. Sadly it didn’t have to be that way with guy we had in warms up all season. Maybe as you say those two transferring could be a huge blessing in disguise.

And then there was one! This is kinda shocking, even in the NIL/portal era.

Wasn’t it rumored that Kohl was on his way out, too?

Crazy. Maybe Storr and Griffen can come back!
