  @ralster The point is sad, as @drgnslayr says, if Russell Robinson was in a position to become Jarrett Jack or Kyle Lowry, probably the two best comps for him as an NBA player. Robinson isn’t quite as big as Jack, who has always been a physical load even though he isn’t as athletic as some of the other top PGs like Westbrook and Rose, or as keen a floor game as Chris Paul. Jack never averaged less than 4.5 assists per game while at Ga. Tech. Add in the fact that he’s 6-3 and improved his 3pt shooting tremendously over his career (28% as a freshman to 41% as a junior) and you can see why he jumped up as an NBA prospect. He was tremendously efficient, particularly as he matured. I don’t think he’s a good comparison for RussRob because of the size and shooting, and the fact that Jack was a better overall player from day one than RussRob was. Lowry is the better comparison. Both he and Robinson are around 6-0 tall. Lowry was not a good perimeter shooter in college. He attempted 40 3’s total in his college career. He didn’t do much that set him apart from Robinson, but he left Villanova after his sophomore year. I think the difference was that while Robinson was seen as peaking as a backup, Lowry was seen as a potential starter by most NBA teams. RussRob has done well for himself, in my opinion. As a backup in the NBA, he wouldn’t make much more than he’s making now in Europe, and he wouldn’t have as much stability because backup PGs are always on the move.

  @ralster Memphis FT average for the season was a poor .608 and at the Title game shot 12-19 for an above average .623. KU FT average for the season was a.702 and shot 14-15 for an out-of-this-world .933 FT average, well above the season average. Douglas Roberts and Rose were the best free throw shooters in the team and had season FT averages of .720; Douglas Roberts shot 6-9 FT at the game for .667 but two of the 3 missed free throws were with 16 second left and Rose shot 3-4 FT at the game for .750 but his one miss came with 10 seconds left and could have put Memphis by 4…instead it put them up by only 3 and we all know how it turned out. In short, it was not as much the missed free throws that doomed Memphis but WHEN they were missed. Had Rose made that free throw, he would have been 1…000 from the free throw line, highly unlikely in a Title game. Memphis did have a very good team and I would be curious if someone ran a simulation to determine who would win a 3 or 5 game series. Enough history, the good guys won.

  @ralster Is this the article you mentioned? Coach Self and Cavaliers… If it is, I only see where he contacted the Cavaliers about Wiggins. something all coaches do on behalf of their players; however, I don’t really see anything about asking them about the HC job.

  @HighEliteMajor I believe the college game in many ways follows the NBA trends and now there is very little distinction anymore between PF and Center. Many players that we commonly think of as being centers, such as Pau Gasol, Duncan, Faried, Ibaka. West, Stoudemire, Aldridge, Love and Griffin are actually PFs; not a lot of players in the NBA are listed as pure Centers anymore. The only true Centers KU has had recently were Aldrich and Withey. FWIW, none of the players on the official KU roster is listed as “Center.” My best guess is that Ellis plays 30 minutes, Alexander and Traylor split 40 minutes and Mickelson and Lucas split 10 minutes, all 3 estimates are +/- 5 minutes.

  @drgnslayr LOL. He was the starting PG and a very good 3 point and free throw shooter with great knowledge of the game and a natural leader. Not surprising he ended up coaching.

  I like Diallo quite a bit. I think Bragg is better, so if the choice was one or the other I would take Bragg, but if it’s a package, sign me up. I think UK and KU will be in similar frontcourt situations after this season as both stand to lose at least a couple interior players. UK may have more spots if Johnson, Cauley Stein and one of the freshmen all leave, but there is a lot of basketball to be played before then.

  This is what I hope: This is the team that really puts it together on offense. “Team offense” becomes the spirit of these guys instead of forced upon them by Self’s structured “pass it around the horn until 5 seconds left on the shot clock” offense. I really have the feeling that this team wants to form their own mold instead of being a team trying to mimic past teams. We are in need of this. We need a team that can just go out there and feel it and do it. I’m not saying they shouldn’t be disciplined… but that the right things should be executed because they feel it instead of being forced into it from coaching rigidity. That rigid approach to offense needs to stop. It’s been shackling our offense for several years now. It’s been making our offense look stiff, without a flow, and too predictable. We have such an equal level of offensive talent this year. So many guys that can become big scorers. We aren’t a team like last year… “get it to Wiggins”… This year we’ve got equal weapons all around and we need to take what opportunities defenses give, and if they aren’t giving we need to execute enough aggression to create our own. I really think the guy that completes the puzzle this year is Svi. He may have some maturing to do, and definitely the need to be more selective on his shots. But he plays a different brand of basketball from the rest of our perimeter guys. He can create for himself. He can also influence the rest of our perimeter guys on how to create for themselves. He should be a difference maker. I don’t think Kentucky has that this year, but I haven’t seen their new blood. Young was their guy last year. Glad he is gone!

  I know Perry is ready for his marquee year, and he will be our leader. I certainly hope he has worked on his defense as much as he’s worked on his offensive game. People have been raving about him this summer, so maybe he finally plays some defense, and uses a head fake for the first time in his life.

  Mason and Frankamp should have played the entire year last year. Tharpe was a mid major talent, on a top 10 team. He was in the way. Mason and Frankamp were outstanding as Freshmen. With a little more seasoning, who knows what they could have done in March and April. One team last went to the Championship game, not because they were good, but because they hung around, and one player on their team nailed clutch 3’s against WSU, Louisville, Michigan, and Wisconsin. The young man can shoot, but more importantly, he was given the green light to shoot, and guess what, he was a Freshman. Didn’t mention the school’s name because we all know it, and most don’t care for it. Anyway, my point is we had to Freshmen studs that weren’t given the opportunity to show wha they can do… You must have leaders at the point and two guard positions. Now that Tharpe has moved on, I believe we will return to our winning ways.
