@ImmunoHawk Spot on. I taught law for years. I’ve been thinking the same thing. Sometimes you can’t reach a particular class. The changes wrought by NIL and perhaps generational shifts have created, at least this year, a cohort that in essence is further away from HCBS and the rest of the coaching staff and less amenable to their general approach and specific techniques.

RE: Interesting Rumor/Note
I agree with you. Thus my comment on how it’s important to plan for the future. Not sure why you feel the need to recap the discussion we both read or otherwise lecture me.
-
RE: Interesting Rumor/Note
I’ve read the thread. You are correct — that is where it started. And then it took a bit of a detour. Preparing for who’s next is important, but I find the dump Self talk to be a bit silly — as was my proposal of Coach KU
-
RE: Interesting Rumor/Note
If we’re seriously going to consider Pitino, why not just go all in on coaches we love to hate and grab Coach K out of retirement. We can rebrand him as Coach KU

RE: If Bill’s roster falls apart…
@approxinfinity I love that! But I don’t think it applies to this team, except for the second half of that game I’m still trying to forget
-
RE: If Bill’s roster falls apart…
@jay4ever well, that seems a bit extreme. But I get your point. Completely.
-
RE: Bounceback night What a sight
@approxinfinity I can definitely see your point of you. For me, it’s a much better experience without that input. And you make a good point about more criticism this year, but to me there’s a difference between critique and spleen venting. I welcome the former, but don’t tolerate the latter very often, at least not in adults.
-
RE: Bounceback night What a sight
@approxinfinity Well I appreciate your caring. But it’s been years of pretty much the same stuff. There may (I stress may) have been some value added early on, but it’s been a drag on the site for years now. There’s a point where having a contrary new take slips into axe grinding.
-
RE: Bounceback night What a sight
@StLJhawk Mine too. Block is a great feature. “Shouldn’t have to come to that” is a great idea, but it doesn’t account for the overly large gap in chronological age and emotional age that some of us exhibit. Also, selfishly for me (and a few others, I imagine), it will serve as a prophylactic measure to keep you from feeding the troll. The less these threads focus on him, the better.

RE: Things i like better than KU basketball right now
@nuleafjhawk ha! No, she 16. But that was my mantra for the ultimate teams I captained years ago. She’s heard it a lot.
-
RE: Things i like better than KU basketball right now
@approxinfinity a whole lot less cursing
-
RE: So who is the bigger disappointment the foot ball or Basketball,
I went to KU in the early 80s. I will occasionally be impressed, but never, ever disappointed by the football team. It’s just not emotionally possible. For me, at least.
-
RE: Flory The Benched Big Man (chatgpt)
Thanks for the song. Now we know where the phog comes from.

RE: Things i like better than KU basketball right now
I watched the game with my daughter. Five minutes into the second half she looked at me with a sour face and said “Whatever happened to punch them in the face, knock them down and then foot on the neck until it’s over.” Love that kid.
-
RE: KU Mad, Central Florida next on schedule, part 2.
My daughter was convinced he was passing the ball to his teammate further down court closer to the baseline. Then he threw up his hands to draw the call. I agree.
-
RE: Well we are not the only ones anyways
I’ve always found the prospect of making money to increase my focus. My clients appreciated that trait.
-
RE: Well we are not the only ones anyways
Yeah, I used to read Rupp Rafters every now and then just for fun.
I see that more as a statement about fans, and our expectations, than about teams and coaching.
-
RE: Central Flaw rid unh-uh
If we all were to block him, there would be no threads composed mainly of responses to him.
Alternatively, do not feed the trolls.
-
RE: Central Flaw rid unh-uh
@BShark I saw that in the Ken Pom rankings too. Never seen it before with a team ranked so highly at this point of a season—we jumped from 13 to 8.
-
RE: KU / Duke Takeaways
@BShark I agree the bench looks so much better. I also agree re Coit — he looked small (very) against a tall Duke team. He was 1-2 and played with some intensity, but the height and length gap was obvious
-
RE: Other games 2024-2025
Ouch. Tough ending for Zuby. But I’m glad he’s not missing his free throws for us.
-
RE: Beat Izzy Beat Sparty
@jayballer67 I agree. KJ looked earthbound. Like a bird that couldn’t fly.
-
RE: UNC Game Thread
@rockchalkjayhawk yes, I agree, Diggy’s impact is felt also with Dejuan being able to go harder at the end of games because he’s had some rest.
-
RE: UNC Game Thread
@dylans that’s what I was referring to. I thought it was early second half, but perhaps late first. He clearly was affected — slower and earthbound. And that was for the rest of the game. Tigger without his bounce is very sad.
-
RE: UNC Game Thread
@Bosthawk I saw what you saw. KJ definitely got hurt (leg or ankle) maybe 5 minutes in to the second half and slowed noticeably. The lack of boxing out and offensive rebounding is frustrating, but I found myself wondering if Coach Self gave him orders to get back on D instead, to slow the fast break. Glad we won. The second half was a tough watch.

RE: Basketball Season
@kjayhawks. Good point — optimistic and revisionist. Lunardi also predicts we win the championship, Self is COY and Hunter is POY.
-
RE: Basketball Season
From ESPN’s Lunardi, a very optimistic take: It has not been a great few years for the consensus No. 1 team. A season ago, Kansas was banged up and made “only” the Sweet 16. A season before that, North Carolina didn’t even make the tournament. You get the idea. Being the hunted in a sport with so much parity is probably a disadvantage. Yet here again are the Jayhawks, with as much power and pedigree as any program in college basketball. For me, the road to San Antonio begins in Lawrence, Kansas.

RE: Darryn Bucket Jones Peterson
@BShark I love your excitement about him. It’s infectious. I look forward to finding some film.
-
RE: The "crap on Trump" thread
@patoh3 finally, a policy at his reading level
-
RE: Mass St vs Purple Reign
Thanks for the link to the tourney site. Good to see the highlights. As a bittersweet bonus, I finally got to see Billy Preston go on a run.

RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
I’m not sure what thread this should be in, perhaps a Cal-specific thread. I was sickened by it so of course wanted to share my nausea with all of you. From ESPN: ““You may think I’m crazy, but I told my staff I only want to have eight or nine guys,” Calipari told Robinson, who is now executive director of the National Association of Basketball Coaches. "They’re leaving anyway, and why would I develop a kid for someone else? Why would I do that?””

RE: Transfer Rumblings
I know we’ve already moved on, in life as well as this thread, but … wasn’t that the game we lost due to the Morii not being able to back up their pre-game shit talking and related antics?
-
RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
Just read from Mike Vernon that we got Griffen! Fantastic
-
RE: Transfer Rumblings
@approxinfinity that sounds great. I’m on board for that!
-
RE: Transfer Rumblings
@approxinfinity. If I may: “…leading the army we hope to have”
-
RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
@wissox there are a few places. Here’s one: https://247sports.com/season/2024-basketball/transferportal/
-
RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
@BeddieKU23 yes, that’s horrible. Really feeling bad for Duke today. And Kentucky, while I’m at it. And Missouri (very sad).
-
RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
Given our remaining targets, would it possibly be to our advantage if Kugel did not arrive?
-
RE: Transfer Rumblings
since Self joined us, he’s had only one year out of the top 25 in Adjusted D, according to KenPom
-
RE: AJ joins Jayhawk nation
@wissox some relationships just need the right setting. Here’s hoping Lawrence is it.
-
RE: Furphy
@approxinfinity I’m looking forward to checking out the new New Kid in Town
-
RE: I Know it's Pointless, but what if. . .
I imagine Self would “vigorously” coach someone who obtained a court injunction forcing the team to take him back. I’m a coach (not basketball and not at this level) and my inner sadist gets excited just thinking about the possibilities.
-
RE: 2024 Coaching Carousel
Sally Jenkins proposed Dawn Staley in a piece published in the Post today. That would be an inspired choice, and a living hell for Staley, I suspect.
-
RE: Arterio Morris
At least Ben’s an “Ex-Blazer”. Sad to see the story, no matter what actually happened. He was a favorite. I’ll never forget the snoopy dance.
-
RE: Furphy
The Ringer projects Furph as the 34th pick, noting basically the same strengths and weaknesses we experienced this season. Hopefully, he comes back to get stronger and address deficiencies. I like him, especially how hard he plays.
