    • RE: Bill Self Playing Favorites

I feel blessed to be able to watch this game in person. I was extremely disappointed by Grimes. He seemed to be lost from get go and was making bad plays, he was completely out of it. While Marcus was not scoring points, he was still playing with great hustle and energy even in the first half. His D was much better than Grimes.

Self mentioned it in the post game that he decided to start Marcus so he can get players who were playing best, and I agree with him there that overall Marcus was playing much better than Q.

Overall I was really impressed by Dotson. Its hard to tell on TV but watching in real time action the kid is super fast and plays with great intensity the whole time. He is going to be a star.

Playing Harris takes pressure off Marcus. I loved his poise.

To me Wilson is the most improved player from last year.

      Nice come back for Braun.

      Abaji needs to keep shooting.

Enaruna has talent and length, hope that Self can give him more PT.

Bryce will be a star by next year.

    • Emabarrassment on National TV - UK Fans

So I was watching the game with my 14 yr. old son and if I remember correctly, with about 48 seconds left and UK down by 8 points, one could see UK fans leaving the arena. You could see rows after rows of folks leaving.

I mean their Star Big was on the line for two FTs to make it a two possession game but many UK fans did not care. I bet one will never see such reaction by KU fans.

My son was shocked and made a comment that it is embarrassing for fans of a program with most wins to leave on an ESPN Game Day event with so much time left in the game. I mean UK players were playing hard and it was still a close game. Any thoughts?

It is the Stated Position of ISIS:

      1. Kill all Muslims who believe in coexistence
      2. Use actions to create a wedge between Islam & the West

The recent terror attacks in Baghdad, Beirut & Paris are part of their plans to achieve their stated goals.

The sooner the collective humanity realizes that we ALL are one side against these barbaric & evil people the better it is. Anyone in their justified anger tries to paint a FAITH, religion, a community with a broad brush and generate collective hatred is playing into the hands of ISIS.

Managing these menaces require collective unity, recognition of their evil desires, and building MORAL Resiliency against any kind of hatred, thoughtfulness & words.

Uniting with a passion for peace, acceptance and mutual respect is the true victory against the reprehensible plans of terrorists.

@HighEliteMajor Once again a solid post. This has been my frustration with Self. I have highlighted these points before in that Self is doing a disservice to this program with his distribution of minutes and inflexible attitude. After wining in Maui I was getting some encouragement but after watching last night’s game I am still shaking my head. I hope that he will look at the tape and will make the required adjustments.

I totally agree with you regarding your comment on what Bolden & Allen are thinking about getting PT at KU. And I would not be surprised if other programs are using this as a selling strategy against them and other top notch elites from coming to KU.

I feel so sorry for Mickelson. The kid transferred with a dream of showing his skills on a national stage. He has done everything possible that one can ask for but still he is riding the pine. Think about what this continued bench time will do to his confidence and his professional BB career. Its a pity.

After 1-5 start I thought that Andy Reid has lost control of this team and I was hoping that we could get to see what we have in Murray. But surely he has turned it around. He kept talking about getting ready for the next game by preparing for fundamentals & technique. Surely, Chiefs not only saved their season they are looking good for a spot in the playoffs.

I am impressed by change in the Chiefs culture. Unlike teams of past years this team did not give up and kept battling when faced with adversity. They kept battling, kept fighting. There were games which past teams would have never won but somehow this group of guys kept winning.

For this tremendous turnaround I salute Andy Reid.

    • Svi vs BG

While the season is still young and BG has only played in 3 games I thought it will be interesting to compare Svi & BG stats, below figures are taken from KU web site:

      Svi vs BG.png

It is understood that numbers do not tell the whole story, data is still a good indicator of performance. What strikes most is that BG is producing significantly more than Svi, Pts/game, FG%, 3PT %, FT% are all better even with lower minutes/game.

I was expecting better figures from Svi. Coming into the season there was tremendous excitement and heightened expectation but for some reason Svi seems to be regressing since the Chaminade game. I am not sure if there is any injury at play here and I really hope that he gets back to form very quickly.

What a delight it would be to see both players firing away from downtown.

BG’s defense is his shortcoming but looking at his production I can’t imagine Self not increasing his PT. Furthermore, opposing teams will want to plan on slowing BG down that should open opportunities for other players. His main weapon has been the three and he has been labelled as one dimensional player but I thought his D was better against Holy Cross and he had couple of decent drives to the hoops as well, he still has upside here in my opinion.

Going forward it will be interesting to see how does PT looks like & how Self utilize Svi & BG.

It will be good to hear comments from other fans on this topic.

7 man rotation with no front court depth is getting exposed especially when players are not yet mentally tough. KU has had 7 man rotation in the past but had players like Tyshawn, Releford, R-Rob, Kevin Young, they all had grit. This squad has not gotten it yet.

For the first few weeks Self will be looking at him for help on rebounding, defense, setting screens, and an additional capable Big to give room to Dok. It will allow Dok to play more aggressively without worrying too much about fouling.

    • RE: Self's Worst Team at KU

This is a good article from Jesse Newell. He has made several valid points about this team:

The reality is this: These Jayhawks have been put in a tough spot because of a roster crunch. Mental toughness can only help KU so much.

The Jayhawks are stuck in a vicious cycle. With only two big men, they have to play small. And if they play small, they have to play with constant energy to be effective defensively. And to have constant energy, they need a breather every once in a while.

And because there are only two big men … there’s no break. Perhaps it’s no surprise that the almost-expected Allen Fieldhouse run — the one so many other Jayhawks teams have made during their 13-year conference streak — never materialized in the second half.
