Jacque Vaughn keeps his (old) job
-
Brooklyn just hired Steve Nash as head coach. Interim HC Jacque Vaughn returns to his position as Nets assistant coach, with a healthy raise to boot.
Nash, a Hall Of Fame player, has no previous coaching experience, though he served as a consultant for Golden State.

Hopefully this is positive for Vaughn. Nash is a good guy. However the Nets did this with Lawrence Frank as highest paid assistant under Kidd and it wasn’t a good scene. We will see. Feels like Vaughn deserved the job.

Sucks!

Interesting choice in the current climate for yet another experience-free White guy to get chosen over an experienced Black guy who took the team to the playoffs despite an injury-plagued roster.
Not judging. Just…interesting.

@mayjay Stephen A was blowing and going about how it was white privilege. I’ll say that I was hoping for Vaughn and you could make a good case for it. But let’s be logical here for a moment. The Nets have 2 at least top 20 players on that roster. They had a big say in whom was gonna get hired. Inside sources say they wanted Nash.

He’s on my short, short list of guys I’d hire if Self left.

@FarmerJayhawk I assume u mean Jacque? I agree. He did a good job in the playoffs, lots of injuries, too. He deserved it. KD isn’t very loyal anyway. Guess that’s the nba

I do! It would be really hard to pull him from the NBA, but if there’s one job that can pull it off, it’s Kansas. We may have to Roy W guilt trip him into it but hey, it worked out for UNC.

“Vaughn coached the Nets to a 7-3 record, including a 5-3 stint with a short roster in the NBA’s bubble, and the Nets held their playoff position. Still, somehow, it wasn’t enough to land him the Nets head coaching job.”
Yeah, that’s pretty damn impressive. By “short roster” they mean wins over Clippers and Bucks, etc with a starting five of: Joe Harris, R Kurucs, Jarrett Allen, Garrett Temple, and Caris Lavert.

Nash was working in GS’s front office while KD was there. That’s why Nash got the Brooklyn job, KD wanted Nash.

@Texas-Hawk-10 I know
