@Crimsonorblue22 As you know, I live in Lawrence. I read the Larryville paper (Journal World) every day and I had NO clue the game was tonight (rather than tomorrow night) until about 6:00, when I happened to have the radio on in the car for about 5 seconds. OK, that’s probably my fault…
But, it wasn’t broadcast on our local cable, and I couldn’t get “Watch ESPN” to stream the game through our cable provider, so I went to a bar and watched the 2nd and 3rd quarters. They were obviously showing some sort of rogue stream (windows task bar was at the bottom of the picture.) Probably a minute lag, but no one cared. Lots of enthusiastic football fans, and it was fun. Thanks, “Set 'em up Jacks” on old K10 east Lawrence.
I’m still ticked off that I couldn’t just watch this AWAY game on local TV though. There would be a riot outside the AD’s house in Lawrence if they pulled this crap with BB.
Anyway… Rock chalk. Guys played great tonight!
-
I have eaten there before. Pay for stinking espn+ and we can’t get away games. Wonder if we’ll get the Texas game or if it will be on LHN ?
-
@Crimsonorblue22 I still might lol. Miles to go still.
-
KU did not control the broadcast rights to the game last night. The broadcast rights belong to the conference of the home team. That’s why the game was on the ACC Network.
As for the game itself. Last night was a glimpse of the future of Kansas football. That was by far the best game Carter Stanley has played wearing a KU uniform. He mostly made the right decisions, he mostly made good throws. That was the difference between last week and last night.
The OLine wasn’t the issue last week. Carter Stanley was the issue. When a QB is a non threat like last week, defenses will stack the box. CCU played 9 in the box most of the game because Stanley didn’t give them a reason to respect the passing game.
BC took that same approach to start the game last night. They focused on stopping the run last night and Carter Stanley made them pay after the first couple of possessions. Once Stanley started completing some passes, that’s when the running game opened up and Pooka and Herbert took over.
The defense has been solid all year so far. The biggest difference is they aren’t creating turnovers like last year.
KU probably doesn’t play that well every week, but it was great to see a glimpse of the future under Miles. Also, Andrew Parchment might be the best receiver in the B12 this year.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 Thanks, THawk. I always appreciate your insights. I’m still at a loss to explain the CC loss. But, at least our coaches and players didn’t dwell on the loss and found a way to be successful. Texas Tech at Arizona will be interesting today.

So, here is Tom Keegan’s preview of last night’s game (now a columnist for the Boston Herald), followed by his game story. Interesting that he doesn’t reference his earlier take.
https://www.bostonherald.com/2019/09/13/the-curse-of-the-mangino-travels-to-boston-college/
-
So glad Keegan doesn’t write for the LJW any more. I met him a handful of times and he always came across as an elitist a-hole. Still trying to claim KU screwed up by firing Mangino. Mangino lost the respect of most of the locker room and was going to have a mass exodus of players after the 2009 season had he stayed. What also gets ignored about that investigation is that the Arist Wright issue that triggered the investigation wasn’t a one time deal. It was the culmination of years of Mangino not respecting his players, KU staff and faculty, along with others in positions of authority. Mangino brought everything that happened to him on himself because he didn’t have the ability to show respect to other people. He was a guy who lacked self control and needed anger management, but never admitted he had those issues while at KU.
He also never bothered to develop or recruit a successor to Reesing so KU was going to awful in 2010 regardless of who was coaching them then.
-
@mayjay thx! I really don’t miss him.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Does anyone?
-
Well I’ll be honest, I miss the fat man. I have two buddies that played on that last team of his. They have told me plenty about Mangino and most of it was good. They pretty much said the defense was lazy and goofing off at practice daily. They didnt like being yelled at or held accountable for the actions. They also said alot about some of the behind scenes crap sweet Lou pulled. I’m not sure firing him was the worst decision but the hiring of Turner Gill and his massive contract is one of most laughable things in KU athletics history. It’s also a tell-tale of sweet Lou knowing he was going down and a final FU on the way out. Keegan was always hit or miss, he couldnt decide who’s side he was on most of the time.
-
I was talking Keegan.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 I dont think I’ll miss him. Like I said hit or miss m, he never really had any great pieces IMO.
-
Ok heads up - -prediction time. - - Score / Attendance . - - I’m thinking temp wise suppose to be pretty nice - like 81 I heard - -I think we could hit 40-45 thousand - -hopefully anyways, - 7 I know it was ONE game but I’m going to go out and say KU - 27 - -WV 21 - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
@jayballer73 I would like for the BC announcers to pick this one.
-
40,000 in the crowd. 31-27 WVU. I think we regress to the mean (i.e. not as bad as CC, not as good as BC) and don’t have the horses to keep up for 4 quarters. Of course I thought we’d house CC and get run at BC so ¯_(ツ)_/¯

You can just tell things are different now. The record may not show it at the end of the year, but we’ll see it’s an entirely different team and culture.

If you get it for basketball season the series will be available on demand.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 I guess i should. What is it - $5 per month or something?
-
@nuleafjhawk yes, and they are all on there. You can also get Hawk talk and pre and post game shows, fb and bb.
-
It will be interesting match up for sure. Which team shows up on either side? Both teams struggled mightily with near loses vs FCS clubs in week one, both had bad losses in week two followed up by big wins vs ACC opponents. I like out chances if we can win the turnover battle. I think the game comes down to that, we must hold on to the football and hopefully catch some INTs this week. I’ll go 36,000 on attendance, we have been close but not over the 35k. This weekend it’s a afternoon game and cooler temps. Kansas 34 WV 27.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Do you have to have a cable TV provider? I ditched Cox a couple of months ago (Hallelujah!!) and am with Youtube.tv - anyway, i’ll check it out.
-
@nuleafjhawk nope. It’s a stand alone product.
-
@dylans Sweet - thank you very much.
-
When was the last time we had a coach with a winning record three games into the season?

UMMMMM
-
@bskeet last season we were 2-1 at this point. Now 3-1, that would be the best start since the beginning of the end 5-0 in 2009.
-
I was less than 200 off on attendance, small victories. My score was pretty close and as I said the turnovers were the difference…
-
We hit the road again tomorrow for the early game on FS1 vs TCU. For some odd reason outside of the 2017 21 yards of offense and a running clock embarrassment. We have played TCU close since they joined this league. I look for tomorrow to be the same way. I think we have a chance if Stanley can limit his turnovers and the defense, which hasnt had a take away since week 1 can create some of their own. I think the spread is 16.5, I like that bet. But will be picking TCU 35 Kansas 24. Being a road game I wont put attendance for it. I feel like we are competing better but must find away to win some of these close games. I feel like KU football has a terrible record in games decided by one score or less pretty much every year outside of 2007 and 08.

Ha, that’s pretty good on your score cause before I seen it I was thinking 31-21 TCU - -hope I’m wrong. - -Would really love to see our tandem backs jus bust out have huge games - -think we got a shot - -that’s why we play the game right? - - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Ugh. I hate when reality makes my optimism taste like a bitter pill. After 20 minutes, I’m hoping we can hold them to 35 in the half. We’ll be lucky to score 21 in the game. At this point, looks like it could be a 70 point loss.
-
Last year’s team was much more competitive than this team. Our offensive line just can’t match up with other lines. It’s going to be a long, sad season from here on.
-
I heard tt qb is out. Any possibility there?
-
How bad must our offense be: SMU scored 41 points on TCU last week. We’re struggling just to get back to the line of scrimmage. The fact that this game was decided in the first quarter really hurts.
-
Well no surprise here BUT Herbert officially gone per Les Miles Lest stating that that Herbert will no longer be around football activities – wishing him well - - NOTHING to see here - - good bye buddy. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
@jayballer73 Are you really that nice of a guy? I don’t understand why you would wish him well. He’s going to hurt our team - I mean, I hope nothing bad happens to him, but I hope he goes somewhere else and flops. Big Belly Flops.
-
@jayballer73 why did he leave the team? Do we know?
-
@approxinfinity likely just because the new rule allows it and KU is still bad. I’m curious if Houston’s QB will be the next transfer Heisman hopeful at Oklahoma.

ahh no reason to hate the guy just because he is leaving - -we gonna go from like to hate just like that? - -people have a right to change their minds ya know? - -he is doing what he feels is in his best interest. - trying to enhance his chances playing at a better program. - - - you ever hear the phrase - -don’t hate the player - - hate the game.
I know you hope nothing bad happens - but it’s kid of like you working in the field - and going from one job - to another - - better pay - - better benefits - -can’t blame the guy for doing what he thinks is possibly a better career move down the road right? - - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Nothing that I know of, other then just plain and simple possibly thinking playing at a better school for his final year might enhance his chances more of getting a chance at the NFL - - I dunno , I mean he was getting plenty of snaps here - -don’t know what it could be. - -Not anything we can do about it but move on.
Not sure but now sounding possibly like Dom Williams MAY be leaving too - -they was asking Les about him also - -and he said he didn’t want to get into it but expected Dom back at practice- -said he didn’t want really to discuss things - -hell I dunno what’s going on. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

@jayballer73 Your points are good. But it IS a little different than working a regular job and going somewhere else. The difference? - nobody cares about you and I working our jobs at the office, or the garbage truck or whatever it is that we do. Nobody.
But everybody cares about the stars of their favorite sports teams. I know you’re a Packers fan. If Aaron Rodgers says tomorrow - “You know what? Screw Green Bay. It’s too cold here. I’m moving to Miami. Big bucks, beautiful babes, warm weather - suck it Green Bay”.
In most Packers fans minds he goes from being the “Savior” to the worlds biggest A-hole. It’s just part of sports and the way fans perceive the stars. In my opinion.

D’Eriq King is nowhere near the QB that Mayfield, Murray, or Hurts are. He’s a solid QB that can help a mid level P5 program, but he’s not an elite prospect.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 lets see if he wants to come to Lawrence lol
-
@kjayhawks Had Les Miles recruited King to LSU, I wouldn’t have ruled out that possibility of KU being a potential destination, but LSU didn’t recruit King out of HS, so it would be very surprising if he considered KU now.
Based on his recruiting profile and current situations of those schools/coaches that recruited him out of high school, I would bet on King ending up at either TCU or Michigan State.
-
well this ought to be ugly but I’ll give my score anyways - -I think we are looking anywhere probably somewhere like 56-10 or 63-10 - attendance will be ugly maybe somewhere in the neighborhood of 25,000 sorry to say. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

It’ll be a good game to try a new qb. Well they all kinda were
