Guy's let's see , try

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 I don’t necessarily disagree but still no excuses to lose last week and I dont think Miles can win here. We’ve heard it too many times here, actions speak louder than words. I was expecting improvement in some way, I think we have regressed. We have simply not improved in any aspect of the game since his hire.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Koenning has very very unimpressive resume, I hope he gets canned every day. Cool that you have a connection to him, just wish he was a better coach.

  • Texas Hawk 10 said:

As head coach at Alabama, Nick Saban went 2-6 in the SEC his first season. Even great coaches struggle without adequate personnel.

Without a good QB, KU’s playbook is severely limited. Miles and Koenning have never been guys who run a flashy offense so not having a QB who can complete a pass more than 5 yards down field is crippling the offense more than the OLine’s struggles which to me are more because of Stanley being a bad decision maker on the field.

Les Miles won 10+ games 7 times in the SEC West and only had 1 losing SEC season in that time running the basic offense he’s trying to put in place at KU. The man knows how to win football games and build programs. Les Miles laid the foundation for Mike Gundy at OSU.

KU currently does not have the roster personnel to run Miles offense the way he wants it run. David Beaty recruited for a spread offense and that’s not what Miles and Koenning run.

It’s going to take time to get those players in place and developed. It’s not an overnight process and the 2020 recruiting class shows Miles wants to build it through the HS ranks which will slow down the process because those linemen need time to physically develop.

As far as Miles and his clock management, I said the day he was hired that anyone who watched Miles at LSU already knows that’s never been a strength of his and never will be. It’s frustrating, but anyone surprised by it clearly didn’t know much about Miles beyond his record at LSU and what his strengths and weaknesses as a coach are. And yes, KU will lose some of the recruits currently committed because KU can’t sign 26 players in December. The players who have committed to KU aren’t surprised by KU dropping a game like CCU because they aren’t stupid. They know KU has been a dumpster fire the last decade and yet they still chose to commit to Miles and attempt to rebuild KU.

Les Miles will make KU a better football program by the time he leaves here. It won’t be an overnight process because it takes time to change offensive philosophies and bring in the correct personnel.

If anyone wants to accuse me of being biased about Miles and Koenning, damn right I am. Born in Louisiana and LSU was the first school I cheered for and one of the 3 schools I considered attending along with KU and Oklahoma. KU is the only football program I’ve seen play in person more than LSU and there is nothing in football like a Saturday night in Death Valley. As far as Les Koenning goes, his dad was my HS football coach and his son was HS teammate while Les Jr. was an assistant at A&M at the time.

Les Miles is the man for the job, just need to be patient and allow him to build the program because unlike basketball, it takes more than one recruiting class to revitalize a program.

that’s great to hear - -and I get it 1000000000000000000000% -that is going to take time to get Coach’s players - - can see he has the staff to get this turned around and believe it or not I know without your wisdom telling me it’s going to take time or telling anyone else that it’s going to take time

I have said repeatedly as for myself if you have followed what I said and that was we have NO QB - -having Said that I don’t feel I’m stupid as you so put it - - and YES they should NEVER lose to a team like CC - - a program that has only been in it’s existence for 16 yrs - -just pathetic play calling - -so who ever had their hand in that needs to wake the hell up Period and realize you can’t be making some of these calls with the personel you’ve got - -Again - - NO QB.

I fully believe in Miles - -YES he will get this turned around - -and I’m not a guy that wants to run him out like others do already - -that sure the hell is not the answer - -we can’t keep changing Coach’s every time someone gets a burr up their ass - you have got to get some kin of Continuity - -you’ll never have that with the past approach that this program has taken - Again why would ANY recruit want to come play for this train wreck and not knowing from one day to the next who the hell the Coach was going to be.

Another thing is if we don’t get better play out of our defensive line then it’s going to be another very long year - - teams will run at will against these guys if we can’t stuff the run and quit giving up 4-5 per carry - -ya it’s gonna take time but we sure the hell can’t keep having performances like we did against CC

If we ever want to get better players to commit here then they want to see progress - -which in turn brings more fans in the seats - -which in turn brings a more exciting environment - -CC WAS NOT progress

  • @jayballer73 That is my problem friend, I did a little searching tonight to just to compare some numbers after Les Miles said our offensive line has played dominant football (obviously on of the most idiotic statements I’ve ever heard) and they just need to get settled in. I’ve come up with a simple question why hasn’t Klieman needed time for his players to settle in? KSU line returns 3 starters just like our but ours has much better size. I think it’s a fair argument that KU has not only as much talent as KSU but maybe even more, the best coach in there school history beat the worst coach (for now, bet Miles surpasses him) in our school history by 4 points last year. The last 10 years according to rivals is an even 5 to 5 in recruiting ranking, with the last 4 being an even 2 to 2. KU has more 4* guys on this team than KSU currently does. So Klieman can improve his team in the offseason and get his players ready to go but Miles can’t? I’d bet heavily on KSU winning 7 games this year minimum. A lot of people had both KU and KSU finishing 8th to 10th in this conference. They got the same 2 and 3 star guys we got, I believe they have a single 4* while we have 4. The simple answer is KSU and Klieman are IMPROVING their players, while are simply not doing the same. If the revolving door at coaching is really killing KU, why is it not KSU, they need an FCS team to miss a FG as time expired last season while our opponent hit it and won in OT. KSU wasnt good last year, hell they needed 2 bogus holding calls and Bender dropping the ball to beat us at home. Klieman is obviously the far superior coach at this point and Miles sucks.

  • @kjayhawks I think we get your point.

lmao - - -to say Miles Sucks is just a litttttttttttttttle bit of a stretch - Coach Miles far from sucks - -but hey it’s Friday you have your opinion that’s awesome - everyone is entitled to theirs - I sure the hell after 2 games am not going to say Coach Sucks - -but I guess you could always go tell him he sucks at Coaching see what him and the staff have to say about it - - Good Luck. - - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • It is Friday the 13th and a full moon. Maybe, just maybe we will only lose by 20!!

  • @kjayhawks We’re going to lose the 1st quarter by more than 20…

    COME ON OCTOBER 24!!!

  • @kjayhawks I. AM. STUNNED. Hey, when a full moon is out, it can even turn Carter Stanley into a decent QB. (For a half anyway.)

    Fingers crossed.

    UMMM - -guess not lol

long way to go but for sure- - Carter has turned around after his 1st possession and had a good half for sure

  • Are we not terrible at football anymore? The offense looks great tonight.

  • Lol just… lol!

  • This is madness.

  • #BILM

  • I am so confused. I feel like my whole life has been a lie.

  • RAZ-ZLE DAZ-ZLE!

  • Come over to espn+

  • Sounds like a cliche, I know, but…

    CONFIDENCE IS CONTAGIOUS

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Watching the game on First Row Sports.

Once you get past the pop-up ads, it’s not too bad. Cheaper than ESPN+ anyway.

  • It’s not on espn+ I have acc network on cox. It says it’s on, but wouldn’t play. I’m lucky I have it. Never watched that before

  • Who are these guys and how did they lose last week?

  • Time for a nice, long, clock-devouring drive…

  • Hehe I was confident that this would be a game. As per usual with my jayhawks, the more I bash them, the better they play. Just finish men and I’ll be $200 dollars richer!!!

  • Great play calling by BC. You ALWAYS go for 4th & 8 from your own 6 yard line…hehe

  • BC coach about to be fired or?

  • And in the words of the immortal Dandy Don Meredith:

“TURN OUT THE LAAGHTS, THE PARTY’S O-VUR”

  • And how about that Defense! Pitched a second-half shut out!

    So proud of our guys.

  • Well the spread was correct, they just got the teams wrong.

  • Guys this was a huge upset BC was favored 21 when I bet Wednesday, think it got down to 19 but still winning by 24 I’m not sure I thought on our best day we could do that. I’d rate this right up with Texas as one of the biggest in a very long time. Good job all around, notice they run RPO and stuck with the same o line most the game. My inside sources said Miles was very vanilla the first 2 weeks and hadn’t shown much. Maybe a bit 2 vanilla. Idc about the rest of the season, just beat KSU.

  • KirkIsMyHinrich said:

    7 straight scoring possessions - - TD - -TD - -TD - - TD - - FG - - FG – - TD ,

Makes me or gives me hope for next week. - -BC has been to bowls 5 of the last 6 years - a top running back - - to beat them like we did at their place - - makes a statement

  • HELL YES

  • And as luck would have it, I’m flying back to KC next week. Can’t make the WVU game due to family stuff, but at least I

  • …oops. At least I can spend a day on campus next week and bask in the winning feeling for awhile.

  • So you think the WVU coach gets a bonus for beating KU, or is there a penalty clause for losing?

  • @kjayhawks you cancelled the program, remember?

  • @nwhawkfan no one in Lawrence knows there was a game tonight

  • @DanR I didn’t either! I was just talking with someone atoday about college FB games being unusual on Fridays, and didn’t know ours was tonight. 😖

  • @DanR their loss! Did you get to see it?

  • Did u know there was a harvest moon tonight? Typo said harvest monk🤣

  • Herbert was outstanding! The postgame is on espn+

  • Man this thread was a fun read beginning to end. ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK

  • @Crimsonorblue22 As you know, I live in Lawrence. I read the Larryville paper (Journal World) every day and I had NO clue the game was tonight (rather than tomorrow night) until about 6:00, when I happened to have the radio on in the car for about 5 seconds. OK, that’s probably my fault…

But, it wasn’t broadcast on our local cable, and I couldn’t get “Watch ESPN” to stream the game through our cable provider, so I went to a bar and watched the 2nd and 3rd quarters. They were obviously showing some sort of rogue stream (windows task bar was at the bottom of the picture.) Probably a minute lag, but no one cared. Lots of enthusiastic football fans, and it was fun. Thanks, “Set 'em up Jacks” on old K10 east Lawrence.

I’m still ticked off that I couldn’t just watch this AWAY game on local TV though. There would be a riot outside the AD’s house in Lawrence if they pulled this crap with BB.

Anyway… Rock chalk. Guys played great tonight!

  • I have eaten there before. Pay for stinking espn+ and we can’t get away games. Wonder if we’ll get the Texas game or if it will be on LHN ?

  • @Crimsonorblue22 I still might lol. Miles to go still.

  • KU did not control the broadcast rights to the game last night. The broadcast rights belong to the conference of the home team. That’s why the game was on the ACC Network.

As for the game itself. Last night was a glimpse of the future of Kansas football. That was by far the best game Carter Stanley has played wearing a KU uniform. He mostly made the right decisions, he mostly made good throws. That was the difference between last week and last night.

The OLine wasn’t the issue last week. Carter Stanley was the issue. When a QB is a non threat like last week, defenses will stack the box. CCU played 9 in the box most of the game because Stanley didn’t give them a reason to respect the passing game.

BC took that same approach to start the game last night. They focused on stopping the run last night and Carter Stanley made them pay after the first couple of possessions. Once Stanley started completing some passes, that’s when the running game opened up and Pooka and Herbert took over.

The defense has been solid all year so far. The biggest difference is they aren’t creating turnovers like last year.

KU probably doesn’t play that well every week, but it was great to see a glimpse of the future under Miles. Also, Andrew Parchment might be the best receiver in the B12 this year.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Thanks, THawk. I always appreciate your insights. I’m still at a loss to explain the CC loss. But, at least our coaches and players didn’t dwell on the loss and found a way to be successful. Texas Tech at Arizona will be interesting today.

  • So, here is Tom Keegan’s preview of last night’s game (now a columnist for the Boston Herald), followed by his game story. Interesting that he doesn’t reference his earlier take.

    https://www.bostonherald.com/2019/09/13/the-curse-of-the-mangino-travels-to-boston-college/

    https://www.bostonherald.com/2019/09/14/kansas-backs-expose-boston-colleges-lack-of-speed-in-major-upset/

  • So glad Keegan doesn’t write for the LJW any more. I met him a handful of times and he always came across as an elitist a-hole. Still trying to claim KU screwed up by firing Mangino. Mangino lost the respect of most of the locker room and was going to have a mass exodus of players after the 2009 season had he stayed. What also gets ignored about that investigation is that the Arist Wright issue that triggered the investigation wasn’t a one time deal. It was the culmination of years of Mangino not respecting his players, KU staff and faculty, along with others in positions of authority. Mangino brought everything that happened to him on himself because he didn’t have the ability to show respect to other people. He was a guy who lacked self control and needed anger management, but never admitted he had those issues while at KU.

He also never bothered to develop or recruit a successor to Reesing so KU was going to awful in 2010 regardless of who was coaching them then.

  • @mayjay thx! I really don’t miss him.
