Bossi’s article today
Gradey Dick
247Sports rank in 2022: 43.
Who is involved/analysis: Back in late December, four-star small forward Gradey Dick cut his list down to a final eight of Alabama, Baylor, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma State, Purdue and Texas Tech. He is a skilled wing with very good positional side, some mid-range game, good athleticism and he understands how to play with other very good players. Some stuff needs to shake out with him, but most involved seem to understand that it is going to take a really strong effort on the recruiting trail to pull Dick out of his home state and away from the Jayhawks.
The prediction: Kansas.
Confidence level: 7
“Some stuff”, aka Nike steering him to Baylor…
-
KU really needs to land him. He’s going to be a hell of a college player.
-
I think he’s most important for keeping local talent in state and the pipeline to Sunrise… thats been an issue lately besides Zach. It doesn’t sound like Mitchell is an option due to influences around him so this one is critical. He fills a need in 22 as Ochai will be moving on. Definitely a critical one here. @BShark might have something more to share here. Could be an interesting pairing with Selfs coaching style.
-
@Kcmatt7 I’m one hundred percent with you. Dick is a guy that we must sign. I can envision the scene in AFH now, a bunch of young women holding up signs that read, ‘We Love Dick!’

LMAO - -now you stop that Miser lol , just giving you the business. I reckon a bunch of young women holding up those signs would be much better then a bunch of young Men holding those up lmao

KU is still the heavy favorite but it’s not locked in. Of course I will share more if I hear more. We should have switched to Nike lol. Imagine being Nike with Sunrise being in KS.
-
@BShark Stupid. If we could just recruit well locally all of the time we’d be phenomenal honestly.
2022 class has three local top 100 kids.
Land Mark Mitchell and Gradey Dick and the 2022 class is gold.
-
Expecting Dick to be a Jayhawk based on a recent exchange.
-
I think we have a good shot at Mitchell too. We were on him so early it’ll be disappointing if we miss. Is he friends with any of the guys on the team rn?

Hope it stays our way

Maybe he switches to Sunrise for his last yr too. They are losing 4 starters
-
Amari Bailey #3 in 22 off the board to UCLA, for now

I would be pretty surprised if Mitchell ends up at KU. If Kentucky offers he will be there most likely. If not I think he ends up @ UNC.
-
Put it another way, swooosh is in deep
-
@BeddieKU23 Are they? He isn’t on the MoKan roster and he isn’t at a Nike prep. I guess that I just don’t see the Nike connection.
-
Like how is Adidas not landing this dude for KU? I’m so serious. How is a life-long Kansas native, where was KU his second offer and first P5 offer, not put on the Adidas payroll?
-
Guessing here.
His last update in January
"No not really just UCLA, Mizzou, Kansas, Arkansas, UNC been on me the hardest,” Mitchell responded when asked if there was anything new with his recruitment. “I’ve been talking to Kentucky a little more recently.”
-
@Kcmatt7 Who’s KU’s liaison with Adidas now because I assume it’s no longer Gassnola? That’s something that’s going to impact KU recruiting as well while they develop a relationship with a new liaison.
-
McDonald’s All American game canceled for 2nd straight year

DAMMIT - - that sucks. But I kind of figured it was gonna be pretty hard to pull him off the Coast Schools

We’re not playing in that sandbox until the NCAA stuff is over. I would be floored if we got Mitchell

Seems like KU’s in a good spot for Aidan Shaw, #68 ranked kid from the KC area.
One school that Shaw is very familiar with is Kansas. The Jayhawks are close to home, and it is a program that has shown him significant attention.
“Their message to me is that I am a top priority player for them,” said Shaw of Kansas. “They tell me that they would be recruiting me no matter where I am from, and that is something I like. Kansas treats me like a top priority and are always willing to show me a lot of attention.”
but as I get older and talk to coaches more, I am focusing on development. My ultimate goal is to play in the NBA, so along with a family feel, I want to go to a place that develops their players and will help me accomplish my dream.”
-
@BeddieKU23 kid loves playing defense, it’s a match lol.
-
Hard to predict what Shaw will be at the next level. He’s got a nice perimeter shot which is nice to see on a 6’8 prospect. Not an explosive athlete (like Mitchell) and doesn’t appear to be quick enough or have the ball handling skills to be a wing here. More in the Jalen Wilson Hybrid 4 role but with more of a post player body. His HS team looks terrible from videos

Looking like the good guys
Heading in that direction
-
Wow!
-
Another Crystal Ball pick for the good guys
-
Baylor insider says he’s “feeling KU on this one”
-
-
Well I’ve seen 4 CB Picks for him at KU - - the only CB Picks I’ve seen. - -Both Bossi & Jerry Meyer have gave us CB’s so that’s a good thing
-
Lock City if Bossi has his in
-
Baylor insider thinks they are slow playing the 22 class due to how many underclassmen they have + the dynamic of the free year/transfer free agency market that’s going to happen this year. Plus Baylor has ascended to a level where they can pick and choose who they want. They have capitalized on KU’s issues with the NCAA. Long story short is, they can get better players funneled to them then Gradey…
-
@BeddieKU23 we can’t be picky, gotta take talent. 22 class looks great so far tbh.
-
For sure we have to take what we can get. Good thing Gradey is local and has ties to the program
-
Getting Gradey would pretty much put us out of the running for Griffen I would think. @BShark thoughts?
Remaining 22 needs, a Big (true 5 type) & another guard. Isaacs maybe?

I like Griffen a lot, but bird in the hand. Seems like they want another wing. I would love Griffen but maybe Shaw is more realistic.
-
Same, Griffen has been #1 on my G/W board for a while. However I think Gradey will be more prepared to play as a freshman due to where he plays HS.
-
All this talk about Baylor! we will see if they can sustain success and continue to add top 25 ranked guys. He’s had talented classes before and they’ve been good but not great. Drew got lucky virtually all of the fringe nba level guys he had stayed and ku lost a guy like Devon.KU is a top 5 team, if not drafted, Devon stayed! Grady dick is a top 50 player, and someone that would stay 3-4 years. If we add consistent top 75 guys we will be fine. Also the moment this ncaa thing resolves, which I would assume by this summer we will know. There little recruiting advantage disappears, unless we really get hit for 3-4 years on reduced scholarships and tourney bans
-
So we think Cuffe is staying in 22 and not re-classifying ?
-
We shall see they are likely to lose the 3 guards after the season. They do have an outstanding class coming in, Love and Brown are as good as advertised and the Polish kid is a stretch 4 type with high upside. Flagler will step in next yr and score a ton. They will hit the transfer market hard and find something that and likely will add more highly ranked HS talent. I think this yr is it as far as championship potential goes but they will be a force going forward due to how they are recruiting
-
Picked up another CB for Gradey but it was from Chasen FWTW - from TOS but makes 5 picks for us for him
-
@jayhawks2010 Yeah but Bill knew Devon was leaving (he almost left after his FR year) and didn’t get a real replacement. W/e Baylor did to have their guys stick around was worth it.
-
Signing both Dick and Shaw would be huge. Dick is an in-state must get, imo. He is skilled and athletic. We’ve whiffed on too many in state players of late. The talent level in Wichita and KC is pretty damn good, mine the hell out of it.
-
Randomly, Kansas has 3 top 50 players this year, all listed as SF’s.
-
I don’t count Sunrise kids as in state unless they are from KS. Kendall Brown was from Minnesota. Still a big miss obviously.
-
-
You guys might be familiar with some alumni of his AAU team. Frank Mason and David McCormack.
Kid is a bucket. He had released a top 6 (without KU) but I would imagine KU is a contender here.
