Chiefs

  • Dang, not the brightest

  • OK, hill, run this MOFO back

  • 50 seconds to victory?

  • So you’re sayin’ there’s a chance…

  • Peters didn’t do crap on that

  • Too many low throws tonight

  • here we go

  • Ballgame.

  • PPPPPPBBBBBBTTTTT

  • Gnight!

  • Dang it! Rook will learn! So long announcers

  • Maybe a chance for revenge in the Super Bowl.

  • Too many drops by Kelce. Too many bad balls by Mahomes and a 3 point L. Lots of room for improvement ought to be he scary thing for the rest of the NFL.

  • Plenty of room to improve, especially on D.

Lordy, I hate that shade of yellow

  • Nite all.

  • The problem is with this team is that with how bad the defense is when they are playing a top team (Pats, Rams among others) the offense has zero margin for error most of the time. I think this team does what chiefs teams do, lose to the first good QB they face in the playoffs. People are now saying it will be a rematch in the SB, both teams have to get there first. Rams got beat by the Saints, who IMO are playing the best at this point and the Chiefs have lost to the best 2 teams they have played, they prob have to go thru NE to get anywhere.

  • With the worst defense in the history of the NFL and a quarterback that , tonight, looked like a High School sophomore making his first start, KC should have been beaten by 50. A three point loss is stunning considering all of the bad things that happened.

  • That game was W-I-L-D

The NFL has a serious officiating problem. They missed several things that were plainly obvious at regular speed ON TV!!! And that was supposed to be an “all star” crew. If that’s the best the NFL has to offer in terms of officials, they should fire everyone and start over. Just ridiculous how bad they were.

And it wasn’t just that they made some bad calls against the Chiefs. They made some calls that just flat out didn’t make sense.

The officials were almost as big a story in a game that featured three MVP candidates, 900 yards of passing offense, 105 total points and no less than six of the most exciting players (Mahomes, Goff, Gurley, Hill, Hunt, Donald) in the NFL. That should literally NEVER happen.

  • @DanR Me too. I assume you’re talking about the color of yellow on the flags that were thrown on every Chiefs play.

  • The All-Start officiating crew was anything but…Ndamukong Suh is still the dirtiest player in the NFL

  • As an unbiased observer that game was a blast to watch, at least the last 8 minutes that I saw.

  • That game played out just like the NFL wanted it. I’m always going to be suspicious of unprecedented referee personnel moves by a multi billion dollar organization where they are trying to grow a fanbase in the largest city in the country.

The Rams “quick snaps” are all illegal. They had at least 3 false starts not called. The block in the back penalty was a joke. The pass interference that was almost a pick to start the game was a joke. This game was a joke.

With that being said, Chiefs still had their shot. If this game is on a neutral field and I’d bet we win. And I did have fun watching the game. I just could have written the story before it happened.

  • @Kcmatt7 I’ve honestly wondered if the NFL doesn’t rig games for several years now.

    @KirkIsMyHinrich

  • @Kcmatt7 When the game starts off with one team having 9 penalties, and the other team having ZERO - pockets are being lined.

Yes, I’m a biased Chiefs fan, but i agree with your assessment of a WHOLE bunch of blatantly crap calls – both ways.

In my expert (sarcasm font enabled) opinion - we win this game by 2 TD’s if Mahomes hadn’t bought into the idea that he is Superman. He tried to make a lot of really stupid plays that experienced QB’s would have thrown into the stands or thrown a screen to a wide open receiver (who happens to be the fastest guy in the league). Yes, he is better than most NFL QB’s at digging himself out of a pit, but the Chiefs have NO chance of getting to the Super Bowl if he doesn’t learn when not to throw into double or triple coverage.

Oh yeah, they might want to fire Bob Sutton and get Clint Bowen if they want to win some games. Because that defense (again with the sarcasm font when i say “defense”) is going to do nothing but cost us games.

  • As you guys know Chiefs are not my favorite team, as you know I’m a Aaron Rodgers/Packers fan - - yet I DO follow KC a lot and do like them as another team. - Like my local sports station is talking about this game - - how can ANYONE walk away from this game an not be jacked - – OMG - - Patrick is an absolute fricken Stud. - -Look what this kid is doing in his FIRST YEAR - he is shredding records. - how do you shut down the Chiefs - -I mean we/you got Tyreik H. – -HUNT - - - Kelse - - - Patrick.

Then these announcers on this sports talk -yes they were pumping him up - -yet they thought he hurried on the last drive , pointing to the 3rd Int – -they thought he went to far down field instead of just working the clock.- - I can understand that to A POINT - -they were complaining about the pass. - -My point is the only reason he didn’t complete that pass - -his arm WAS HIT that is the ONLY reason for the Int that is the ONLY REASON. - -but yet I can understand in a way- - - - - yet who would have the guts the way Patrick has played this year who would of bet that we wouldn’t drive down the field for the winning TD if his arm wasn’t hit?

I mean holy shit throws for 6 TD’s Again and what close if not over 500 yds passing. - -Chiefs fans you keep these guys together and look the hell out. The only thing I said that will keep your Chiefs out of the Super bowl - -is the defense -your gonna have to outscore KC - - Kc couldn’t stop them - -what an awesome game though -they /no one has anything at all to hang your heads about - -what a fricking game - - now that’s football

I think you have to let Mahomes be Mahomes. You take the good with the bad. He’s on pace to throw 54 TDs and 16 ints and over 5200 yards. Only HOF guys put up those kinds of numbers. That’s just not the issue imo. I get what you’re saying. And I think he’ll get better just from playing. But the truth is that this team only has a shot at a Superbowl BECAUSE of Mahomes.

As far as the defense goes, I think we just need to make sure that the AFC path to the Superbowl comes through Arrowhead.

  • Mahomes will learn from these mistakes. He can make some spectacular plays, but he will also learn which ones he cannot make because of balance, pressure, speed of defenders, etc.

But you can’t rein in his confidence. He has a once in a generation arm, and he has the confidence to use it to its full potential. There’s no reason to rein that in, because he will make more plays than he will miss.

  • @Kcmatt7 , @justanotherfan - I love the numbers he’s putting up. But - he has to have the smarts to know when enough is enough. For instance - am i the only one that saw the season flash before my eyes when he attempted to tackle the giant dude in the end zone and his right foot/leg looked like it was going to splinter? He needed to let it go - we aren’t going to any playoffs with him in a cast on the bench. That’s what I’m talking about. Throw it left handed, throw it behind your back, throw it while standing on your head - i don’t care - just don’t be stupid and throw into double/triple coverage. Three interceptions. The one is understandable, but two of them were strictly because he was trying to make a pass that even he couldn’t make. I don’t want him to Alex it down - just don’t give the ball away for no reason.

  • @nuleafjhawk Good point on the “Mahomes tossed around like a bean bag” tackle attempt. One additional thought is that, if successful, Mahomes at best would have kept the Rams at the 2 yard line or so. The defense would have then held for 2 plays, only to get called for PI in the end zone, and then a touchdown from the 1. So, the good news is for once we were saved from that lather-rinse-repeat-repeat-repeat scenario.

    amen

  • Here’s the ballgame. Get this stop!

  • Should have won in regulation but thought they would give the fans some extra entertainment and excitement.

  • I died multiple times during this game.

  • Mahomes is the most fun football player I’ve ever watched.

  • Barry Sanders, second place.

  • @approxinfinity and he acknowledges Alex smith for all his help! God bless him!

  • That game tying drive with the insane pass to Hill maybe have just moved him to the favorite for MVP. The Chiefs still worry me with there play, enough that I can see them losing in the playoffs once again.

  • @kjayhawks insane!

  • @Woodrow So good. He is able to throw a football like point guards can throw a basketball (no look) and shortstops can throw a baseball (cross body, midair, with body spinning opposite direction). He’s in a class by himself, revolutionary.

  • From CBSSports.com, by Jason La Canfora:

Patrick Mahomes is the NFL’s most valuable player.

Mahomes was, to me, more impressive than ever on Sunday. This wasn’t going to be a week where the Chiefs came out and scored on five straight drives to open the game. They weren’t going to always be playing with the lead. They were going against the league’s best defense and Baltimore did, in fact, shut down and beat up the opposing quarterback for a good portion of this game. It was a day in which the Chiefs offense would go large portions of the day without the football as the Ravens’ RPO ground attack rolled up another 198 yards of rushing.

It was going to be a day where the Chiefs would have to win ugly and overcome their defense in order to clinch a playoff spot, avoid the Chargers nipping at them in the AFC West standings and take full advantage of an afternoon when the Texans and Patriots lost games they were favored to win. And make no mistake, with Kareem Hunt released a week ago, Sammy Watkins hurt agai, Tyreek Hill limping around, Spencer Ware needing medical attention and Kansas City’s offensive line bullied by Baltimore’s pass rush, it was Mahomes who made it all happen in a wild, 27-24 overtime win.

He completed a ridiculous no-look pass to key a monster drive. He kept another play alive forever under duress before firing across his body for 50 yards to Hill to set up the game-tying score in the dying minutes. That’s all. He only made about a half dozen throws that no one else completes right now, and probably only Aaron Rodgers would even try. If Mahomes was a half-step slower, just a smidge less brilliant in his ability to see the field and diagnose defenses mentally, with an arm that was just a touch less strong or a bit more inaccurate, the Chiefs lose this game and are staring at an uncomfortable crossroads.

Instead, because of the 23-year old passer, Andy Reid was left speechless and flabbergasted on the sidelines at the insane plays Mahomes made, repeatedly, as he rolls toward his 50th touchdown pass of the season. Instead, he made the Ravens contemplate their own mortality for the season, as he threw for 377 yards (topping 4,000 for the season) and two more touchdowns (he’s up to 43, now) against the unit that came into this game allowing the worst passer rating in the NFL.

Mahomes looked at an array of blitzes the likes of which he had never before seen and was rarely gifted a clean pocket or much time to operate, but he gutted through it, stayed composed and released his gunslinger to capture the victory. It felt like a playoff game, and it was Mahomes’ toughest task yet given the injuries and lack of so many impact players. No first-time starter has looked like this since Dan Marino, and it should be reflected in the postseason hardware.

  • When La Canfora is writing this, you can lock it up.

  • As a Chiefs fan, Mahomes is payback for watching other teams do that to our D for years.

  • Da Bears!

Hopefully, continuing Thursday by going 2 for 2 this year in the “Revenge on Rivers” campaign!
