New 2019 Recruiting

Brb pouring some scotch.

@BShark I would think KJ and Mac would be our starting frontline. We’ll have Dotson, Garrett, Charlie, Agbaji, Braun in the back court, with Mac, KJ, and Lightfoot up front. Unless KJ goes pro.

prepares sky is falling material
Yeah, that’s very not good. That’s a lose in the round of 32 type of roster unfortunately. Probably doesn’t win the league either with how good ISU, TCU and Texas will be. It’s basically this year’s roster minus the best 4-5 guys. Braun being the 5th guard is terrifying and Charlie Moore is Naadir Tharpe 2.0. That post line-up is already falling off a cliff from this year. If KJ did leave as well, it would be a disaster.
Best to enjoy this year.
-
@BShark - --LMAO - - you crazy buddy lol
-
@BShark I guess we better get a national championship this year. Charlie will never be Naadir, simply because Bill will never let him run the team at pg. Dotson, Garrett, and MacBryde will make sure of it.

And I thought I was drunk. Oh wait I am.
Anyway yeah, this team could definitely win a national title. Even without Silvio, though Silvio would obviously help. I have very high hopes. Best roster Self has had since those 2010 and 2011 teams.
Also Self will add some guys, I just have no idea who they will be. Self isn’t going into next season with Dave, Mitch and a combo forward as the only post guys.
-
Zeke
-
@BShark LOL @ “and I thought I was drunk”.
-
At this time, the only thing that can possibly hurt KU is the $2,500 sent Silvio and the more likely penalty would be a 2-3 game suspension for Silvio. No way they can trace anything on Preston to KU because there is plenty of evidence that KU did not know what had transpired with his mom and his mom actively coached Billy on how to lie and keep KU in the dark. Same thing with Zion. The fact that he did not end up at KU indicates he did not get money from KU or Adidas and now Duke is the program with the big issue; no way Zion/family suddenly decide to forgo the money and go to Duke without money being involved, no way, no how, no ma’am.
-
@JayHawkFanToo I’m talking about the optics of the situation hurting KU’s recruiting not any actual sanctions.
-
Worst (realistic) scenario: a lineup of Moore, Garrett, K.J., Zeke, McCormack is a top 10 team that’ll win the conference.

I like that you feel this strongly about landing Zeke.
I really hope Dotson is back though.
-
All the prospects know exactly how recruiting works so I don’t believe the current situation will scare them away. Actually, they probably know more about who is getting paid and who is doing the paying than the coaching staffs do.
-
@JayHawkFanToo Well if it wasn’t the situation, Self got his ass kicked by Jay Wright for JRE. It feels like it was a factor though.
-
That is yet to be decided. A serious spanking when Villanova comes to AFH in December will help.
-
@BShark yeah if we whiff on JRE I fully expect to land Zeke. This is totally going to sound like “I didn’t want JRE anyway I’m a Kentucky fan” but Zeke is the better long term prospect. Personally I’d rather have JRE for next year but Zeke may be the better player long term.
-
Very interesting take that makes a lot of sense.
-
@JayHawkFanToo JRE will announce before that game is played.
@FarmerJayhawk Actually I agree with you. Zeke has enormous potential. I was hoping he would be a multi-year guy but it sounded like his dad was saying the plan is OAD. JRE is definitely a really good basketball player right now, but his long term and star potential are kinda meh. He reminds me of Perry in that respect. Better leaper than Perry for sure though.
-
@JayHawkFanToo @BShark if Zeke is a OAD KU had a phenomenal year so I’m A OK there
-
I’d love to get Zeke regardless of how long he plans to stay at this point, because KU definitely needs help for next year’s front court if the team is going to be FF good.

I have to agree with you to a point anyways - -these guys probably do know how things work BUT the only thing I belive is that when it is a tight race in the recruiting battle that things such as what is going on right now MIGHT be just enough to lure them away from us to another school. Exp - - JRE/Villanova/N Carolina.
We all know that these other schools will be and are using this as a major recruiting tool talking really negative about us with this- -we have seen it happen. All you have to do is look at the Langford recruitment - -which took a turn for the karma route with daddy talking his shit and - - Surprise look who’s name gets brought up even in the slightest of ways. Daddy making remarks as he did if I remember right, can’t remember exactly what he said but he was talking trash on the KU program and then BAM - -just afraid when it’s a tight call things like this are not good - that’s why I believe it very well could cause them to go the other way. - - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
@BShark I agree JRE is a very good player for sure and really want him BUT I just never really considered him as a OAD - - do you believe that he is? - -maybe I’m missing something. I have looked at him as probably 2 even possibly 3 but more like 2.
I for sure would be just as happy with Zeke.- – -In all seriousness if Coach could only see talent that is right under his nose he would have a STAR studded player on his roster. - -All he has to do is call me - I think I have a couple of years of eligibility left to use. - I would ROCK the house roflmao – rock chalk all day long baby
-
@jayballer73 Definitely not saying that. I did say Zeke’s dad has mentioned Zeke as a OAD. JRE is a 3-4 year guy for sure.
-
May I opine (and I’ll admit, I am a glass 3/4 full kinda guy)? How 'bout a recruiting class that features Zeke, Chandler Lawson, Issac McBride and Christian Braun, along with another top 50 big man? I’ll take that, along with Dedric and KJ both returning to play in Allen with their brother for one year… I don’t think that we’ll get any probation, the story is TOO BIG, concerns all of college basketball, and even football.
-
Swoosh rumors with JRE.

That would be a bit of a disappointing class. Although you didn’t specify which Top 50 big man it would be we can all but assume the only target that will be on the board is Hurt after the November signing period.
If the class is Hurt, Zeke, Lawson, McBride & Braun its still a bit disappointing considering the talent they pursued but in time maybe this class would be viewed differently. Hurt is a OAD impact starter. Zeke is a rotation/extremely high upside type. I’m not a big fan of Chandler but his length (crazy wingspan) and skill set is intriguing to develop. McBride is a future starter imo, Bruan I will wait and see how much he changes his body and how he develops in the system.
I would put Dedric returning at less then 1%. 50/50 with KJ depending on his role and minutes this year.

Considering that every elite program pursues every top prospect, anytime it does not get all the prospects it pursues it would then be considered a failure? The class you mentioned above would not be even a bit of a disappointment and would be a really good class, in my opinion of course.

I don’t think Hurt is coming here. Self will get some guys, who they are or whether they will be dudes is yet to be determined.
Chandler seems very much still up in the air. Looks like Nike is making a push.
-
At this moment I do not expect Hurt ends up at KU either. We’ll see whether that situation changes in the winter/spring when he’s actually serious about his recruiting.

It wouldn’t be a big disappointment but it would fall short of expectations for various reasons imo, of course. There’s a lot of talent leaving KU after the season and I would like to see the class balanced between elite/early impact players and 4 year types. The above mentioned class wouldn’t be a balance of that unless Zeke Nnaji was further along then expected.

Kofi Cockburn schedules an official visit to Uconn. So far its his only official scheduled. Could be a good sign for them

Wondering who is going to be available for KU after missing on guys. Might have to play the decommit/grad transfer game.

Will be fun to see how it plays out. We’ll find something good
-
@BeddieKU23 A couple of “real guys” for the post is my hope.
-
This season KU has a “perfect storm” kind of team with the right combination of experience, talent and depth and it would be difficult to match so, in that respect, it will be a let down regardless of who KU gets.
-
We’ll pull a rabbit out of somewhere. I’m not worried yet. Still have reclass candidates, transfers, and guys will get canned in March and it’s like a 2nd wave of recruiting at this point.
We NEED to land at least 2 bigs in this class. But that is the only mandatory thing. I kind of expect us to take a couple more transfers if there are any worth taking.

In that same light, having a high collection of talent and expected departures after the season should leave KU in a great position for elite/immediate level talent to mix in but we’re potentially seeing the “perfect storm” of off the court drama making it difficult to do so

Top recruits know that all programs pay, maybe not directly but indirectly via shoecos, runners or boosters. They also know that if one falls all fall; I would not think they would be too concerned about it. The only thing would be if, because of the recent attention and exposure, Adidas is on a freeze of sorts and not doling out cash like the others.
-
Really need to push the NCAA to decide quickly on any punishment following what the close of the trial. I think a lot of players would feel better if we just ended up getting a slap on the wrist and that cloud was gone.
-
Any Stanley news? It’s been almost a full month now.

I believe his other officials to UCLA & Oregon are coming up. Otherwise crickets

Adidas is still out there paying recruits, I’m aware of one recent player that they were able to keep in the fold in the 19 class.
They just used other handlers that won’t end up in a future FBI trial. The FBI caught the bad apple, one connected to KU among other schools

KyKy Tandy to Xavier.

I’ve been trying to figure out Xavier’s scholarship situation. They should have about 8 guys back next year but have signed 9. Last time I checked that didn’t make 13. What is going on?

Lol, they have 5 commits. They are keeping 8 like you said (11 guys and three are grad transfer srs) so they are now full up.

In case anyone wants to go see Braun play this year.

Looks like I missed Elias King decommitting. Also one of their transfers I didn’t realize was a preferred walk-on and the other was eligible to play for them this season. Thx for clearing that up. Makes sense how they are getting to 13 now.

Yeah, King is going to stay home and go to UGA I believe.
