New 2019 Recruiting
-
Just passing this along. The Hampton’s reported to Matt Scott that their official visit to KU was “First Class”.
From start to finish of the visit everything was first class," said Mr. Hampton. “Getting to see the day-to-day workings was impressive. At the end of the day you gotta respect tradition. We could see ourselves as a Jayhawk family. We will see!!!”
Nice tease there at the end. Unless Nike & Duke can’t work out a deal can’t see him ending here but at least we got an official visit. We’ll see how it plays out
-
Lot’s of CB’s rolling in for Terrance Shannon to end up at Texas Tech. Terrance, you might want to wait until you know your coach is staying bud. Shannon has had one of the more fruitful recruitment’s. LOL
-
He just committed.

And if Beard leaves won’t be his last commitment. He’s made a few along the way

Third time’s the charm!

So it’s looking like now it’s becoming a fore gone conclusion that we have yet lost another recruit huh> - Looking more and More is now going to Duke -everything pointing that way for sure - - love how these guys can come in at the last minute and just snatch these guys - This FBI thing just eating us up -Jerry Meyer predicted Hurt to Duke this morning - -SOB - -ROCK CHALK ALL AY LONG BABY
-
Ehh the only recruits we have are Braun and McBride. The rest aren’t ours yet. KU casts a very wide recruiting net, so you will see more misses than hits just by numbers. Don’t fret until commited guys start jumping ship.
-
The recruit @jayballer73 is talking about has been the #1 target of Self for a few years now. Coached him as well. Losing him to Duke or any other program is certainly not what you want to see happen
-
@BeddieKU23 I’ve never been able to figure out the decision making process of a teenager, they do all kinds of stupid stuff. Ayton was a 100% KU lean, but then we learn he was given more money by Arizona (apparently 15k by Adidias isn’t enough when 100k is on the table). The checkbook is closed - I wouldn’t look for any 5 star recruits to sign. Add in the chance of a post season ban and loss of scholarships due to being caught by the FBI and I wouldn’t let my kid go to KU until I knew he could play in the NCAA tournament (esp if he’s a OAD).
So meh. IF KU signs a big time player that’s unexpected news, not potientally losing a recruit that hasn’t committed to anyone yet.
-
So question is - -should we even be interested in the Spring signing period at all? - Are we going to sign somebody just to say we signed somebody? - we got a body?
who here feels like we got more then a decent shot to land anybody that is somebody? - -If you do who? - -Who do you feel that we have a really decent shot at landing - -I mean more then decent? - I just can’t get myself all hyped for spring signing.
The one I thought we had a lot better then average shot at now looks like he too is gone ( Hurt ) - -this FBI thing - -NCAA Thing has just killed us -trying times ahead. - I think in the next couple of years we are really gonna have our patience tested. - -Actually I’m not as concerned about next year as the year after
I think with Dotson - - - Garett - - -and I think Grimes back and I do think he will be back - - -McCormack - - Lightfoot - - Obaji - -w got a pretty good nucleus - -then add Braun and McBride - nothing lights out but we will be there -although we do need a really quality big - and just not sure were gonna get that.
But the following yr pretty nervous by that - -by then we will know all about any Scholi reductions - -any post season bans - and by then could very well be no Grimes - - no Dotson as that would be their Jr years - no Lightfoot due to graduating – possible no Ochai -time will tell
-
The Spring will be ridiculously busy for us I think. So, yes, we should be interested in it.

I have no idea of the fallout from the Adidas trial and what lies ahead. We have only the two prospects signed because of it. Still, 5 star recruits are showing up on campus like Matthew Hurt, Precious Achiuwa and RJ Hampton so do teenagers see it the same way as us fans?
KU has starting spots to sell this spring. If the hammer is coming down why are recruits still coming. A lot seems to be unknown on that part, what exact punishments will KU get, if any. I quit worrying about it until they announce it’s happening.

Quotes from Jerry Meyer that describe our unenviable landscape … maybe a Lucas/Traylor-like spring.

Could be a Traylor/Lucas Spring. Could be a Xavier Henry-like Spring of poaching.
Someone will fill those scholarships.

Evan Daniels talks about a few guys from the 2020 class that could reclassify to 2019. Obviously R.J. Hampton is the big name but he also mentioned N’Faly Dante and said KU is one of four schools recruiting him. He list KU, Ketucky, LSU, and Oregon. That kind of surprised me, because I hadn’t really seen him and KU mentioned together for awhile. Just assumed he was a Nike kid.
-
Dante probably was LSU bound before the Will Wade stuff.
-
What do you take of this line in there
There’s a chance Bill Self is going to be subpoenaed and testifying,” Meyer said. “Who knows where this stuff could go? They even said in court that Self was involved with a money transaction with Billy Preston.
Testifying in which case? Adidas trial already happened.
Involved with money transaction? Jerry sounds a bit off base here. Self wouldn’t be coaching if scenario 2 was true.
-
Why would Self be subpoenaed and testify in a case that has nothing to do with KU?? That doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.
-
@BeddieKU23 @Woodrow I kind of interpreted that as Jerry Meyer repeating what was said on the recruiting trail, the worries of recruits — meaning that factual accuracy might not be the highest priority. Actually, what is happening now to Miller and Wade is exactly what I was concerned about for Self. It would sure be a big relief if this has passed by coach Self without him getting a subpoena.
-
FWIW I think Memphis and UK are out on RJ if he moves to 2019. The way it’s trending I think he stays in 2020.

If he was going to re class again he should have still in the class of 2019 instead of going into the class of 2020
-
Texas A&M fired their coach a few days ago so that might open up some players.
-
Keion Brooks picked Kentucky. Really good player. Will replace Johnson with zero issue
-
I guess Nike is spreading some money around to Georgia. 3rd Top 100 Small Forward signing with Christian Brown. They have Anthony Edwards as well at SG…
Gotta love 4 Top 100 kids signing to a 11-21 squad. I’m sure its all on the up and up
-
Maybe we start a new thread for potential de-commits?
Have to think the 3 Vandy committs open up their recruitment. I would take Pippen Jr. as a walk-on. Disu not that interested in. I think Crowley is probably criminally underranked based on a few of his offers.
https://247sports.com/player/dylan-disu-46054535/ https://247sports.com/player/austin-crowley-46040950/
A&M recruits don’t much interest me. I probably wouldn’t be disappointed with Tyreek Smith. He had big boys after him.

-
@Kcmatt7 Wheeler being 5’8’’ is a huge no thanks for me.
Crowley is very appealing if a wing is needed.
I’d take either big in a heartbeat.
-
@BShark Yea he’s a hard pass probably. But at this point, I mean, can anyone really be any worse than Charlie as a backup PG?
Edit: I’m not saying take him, I’m just saying how bad Charlie is.
-
Have heard KU and UNC are leading for Precious. Honestly he may not take any more visits.
-
That’s big. Both schools have positions open for him
-
Yes please.
-
Well this should be our favorite thread of the offseason
-
Or an even more depressing one. Lordy I hope we hear the punishments soon and can move on.
-
I expect no resolution before the fall. Probably late October though. Seems to be a popular time
-
@BeddieKU23 I really think it hurts us with anyone but Precious. We may have to return everyone we possibly can out of necessity. I really am worried about a post-season ban.
-
If we receive a post season ban for what’s been presented to us from the trial then I’ve lost all confidence in this sport as it is constructed and I’ll have to find something else to enjoy in life.
I have no idea how this will shake out but I’m sure it will leave us having lost ALL hope in the NCAA ever doing the right thing
-
Just get it over with so we can move on. Arizona recovered nicely after one year of off recruiting, but now it looks like everyone could get fired.
-
Just read a quote where Self said they need to sign a couple athletic difference makers who can make plays you can’t coach. Pretty much all of Auburn’s roster. It’s refrehing that he’s acknowledging the deficiencies the team he built has. Hopefully he can go out and land some of those guys.
Also find some damn shooters.

Got the shooters already though you can never have enough.
At least Bill said the right things, now let’s see how the class ends up.
-
Not a ton in here on Precious, but says he won’t decide until May. No other visits planned right now, but says he is planning on taking a couple more.
Also saw where Hurt is working on a visit to Memphis.

You beat me to the article lol. - -The only thing I saw an it isn’t squat - just difference of wording between the visits with KU and N Carolina:
Of his N Carolina visit: - - said ya it was good - -they was playing Duke and was the biggest game on tv for basketball -it was a good trip
On his KU visit : - -It was GREAT - -was talking about the fans and enviroment- - -talking about how the fans showing energy - not the words he said but I can’t spell the word so - -pssssst lol. - -Again it was just the way he worded = I know really reaching but hey it’s my post - -let me reach and stretch things to the way I want to fit things lol - In my fantasy world means he enjoyed his trip to KU more then to N Carolina lol - -hey I can fantasize right? lol - - did say no more trips scheduled RIGHT NOW but they are looking and they will - -no decision until late May probably. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
@jayballer73 I don’t want this guy. Not unless he changes his name.
How about VLAD?
Or Zeus?
Maybe Gunnar?
Cleotis might be OK. Yeah, Cleotis Achiuwa. Nice ring to it.
Anything but Precious. We have enough Precious’ on the team now.
-
Well its better then he’s brother’s name- God’s Gift
-
@BeddieKU23 PLEASE tell me you’re kidding.

NO not kidding - -that is his brother name lol

I wish I was. His brother played at St Johns a few years back. I’ll take Precious, given the choice and he’s a way better player then his older brother

For those that don’t know Matthew Hurt has set his announcement date for April 19th and is set to announce at a Ceremony at his High School.
Who knows if KU lands him but his decision easily has to be one of the most significant in the Self era considering all that KU has gone through this season and on the recruiting front.
He has officially visited KU, UK, UNC, Duke. All the heavy hitters.
-
Here’s his comments on KU, the coaches and what role the staff has been selling him on. Self coached Matthew last summer with Team USA, the same team that had Quentin Grimes.
“I like their atmosphere". “I’m really close with their coaching staff, just what they do every day and their academics person is really close with the guys, even if they go to the NBA. So it’s more of a family there.”
To that end, Hurt told Eric Bossi, that the family environment at KU extends beyond the players and their bond together.
“Their coaching staff’s really close,” Hurt told Bossi, noting that KU assistant Jerrance Howard was the lead recruiter for his services. “Me and him are pretty close.”
As for how Self, Howard and the rest of the KU program were trying to pitch him on picking Kansas, Hurt said KU’s willingness to let him play on the perimeter, and play to his strengths, was something that stood out.
“A combination of like Andrew Wiggins, Kelly Oubre, Josh Jackson, taller guys that can put the ball on the floor,” he said when asked how KU might use him. “That’s their message. They think they can train me to be a big guard and those are the three guys in the NBA that they want me to look at right now and how they did at Kansas.”
-
This always sucks. You have to hope they at least tell the schools early. “We know where we are going but we are going to wait a month to tell everyone.”
Drives me crazy every year.
-
@BeddieKU23 All the heavy hitters - plus KU.
-
KU just needs someone to pop for them and commit. It is like everyone is scared to do so and it feels like once we get that first big name things will go back to normal. Obviously if we don’t get hammered by the NCAA. Also, there is some buzz out there about Self moving on this Summer and while I do not believe it I guarantee you that it is being used against him.
