I don’t understand why they didn’t rank Perry in first place- he did give us a great 20 years…

@KUSTEVE He probably only was judged on the average quality of his play in any 4-year sample. It would have been unfair to make it cumulative.

I am with @KUSTEVE. It would be very close but when you look at all 4 years Perry should be at the top.

The question with these kinds of lists is whether it should be best year, or a cumulative for the career.
Frank Mason had the best single year. There’s no question that senior Frank Mason had the highest peak.
Sherron Collins helped win a national title.
Perry Ellis had the best individual numbers over the course of his career.
Devonte Graham blended a bit of each with winning, personal numbers and accolades, though he did not get those last two wins like Sherron did.

I have no issue with Perry at 4. At a school like Kansas, team success has to play a factor when judging players. While Perry might have had the most consistent career of the bunch, I’m pretty sure he also lost more games than anyone else and was a key player on a pair of KU teams that failed to get past the first weekend of the NCAA tournament.

The long term 4 year impact players as I see it:
Sherron. No Sherron no championship in ‘08. Formed a formidable 2 man team with Aldrich. Could’ve been national player of the year his Senior campaign as he carried the Jayhawks to many a victory.
Mason. Starter for parts of all four years. Made an immediate impact helping to beat Duke his freshman year (only 3 starts) Left as national player of the year his senior year.
Ellis. After a disappointing freshman season he really came on during the Big12 tournament foreshadowing what was to come. A consistent force in the face up game, Perry would often times blow by his defender on his way to the hoop. Never really able to score over length he became a deadly three point threat late in his career, though he was reluctant to shoot too many trifectas. Carried KU with his silent leadership qualities his jr and sr years. I’d love to have him for another 10 years.
Graham. Most loved leader in recent memory. Made his teammates better from day one. Lead the Jayhawks to a final four berth his senior year inspite of a dearth of super athletic teammates. Consumate teammate he was quick to dish an assist or lend a hand on defense.

The list of four year players we loved to complain about 1. Brady 2. Traylor 3. Taylor 4. Lucas 5. EJ - Off the bench, Reed, D. Jackson, Kaun, Hawkins.

Big omission not having Tyler Self on the list. We won nearly every time that kid was on the floor at the end of the game.

@dylans Pretty sure Frank didn’t start as a freshman. I’m pretty sure Tharpe started when Mason was a freshman.
