KU to play in MAUI Invitational in 2019
-
@Kcmatt7 KU is in Maui next calendar year, Thanksgiving 2019! (So don’t go this year unless you want to see a bunch of other teams.)
The cost is, of course, insane if you use their packages that do not include getting there. 20 months to save $175 per month and, if you can swim there, you and another person can have a blast with the big package. If you fly, count on $600 to $1,000 each for round trip. (If you eat, expect another $200 per; if you drink, double that.)
Over $5,000 minimum for two to see all 12 games, or $4,500 for just KU’s 3 games.
But you get a pair of sunglasses.
We wouldn’t do it if not staying longer, if we weren’t going anyway, and if we didn’t have timeshares. We will have our son investigate the game a la cart tickets.

Lol good call. I know we are in the NIT Tip off this year so I definitely was just out of it…
I think I’ll probably do a practice run this year, as far as looking for when to buy the cheapest flights, if it is cheaper to fly out of Omaha or St. Louis instead, etc. Luckily, I have quite a few friends who are all doing pretty well for themselves and I think I could talk them into coming. Splitting up an AirBnB 8+ ways means we could probably pull the whole thing off for a little more than $3K for two people.
Or maybe my parents will want to go and will pay for our hotel lol.
But hey, I have a whole year to plan it out! And I definitely appreciate the though you put into your response!

@mayjay We drove right by the center at least a dozen times that week. We stayed on the Big Island for a few days before going to Maui. I hope you can go, beautiful area, early part of whale watching season too.
-
@Kcmatt7 If you can get to Denver, the tickets will be closer to $500-600 to Honolulu on a direct flight.
-
@mayjay If you go, we will need you to make a huge KU Buckets sign, and sneak down to courtside, and get on tv. Wouldn’t that be cool?
-
@dylans yea I’ll add that in. But after gas and time, $100 is probably not worth it. Would take getting a ridiculous price on tickets for me to drive 8 hours only to be in a plane for another 10 right after.
-
@mayjay By the way, I think you need to have a long talk with this boy:

@KUSTEVE Who does he think he is, a congressman or something?
-
Next years NonCon is going to be a doozy! ASU, Nova, and then
I bet we even get UK in the Big12/SEC challenge!
-
@Statmachine Michigan State too, right?
-
@Kcmatt7 Maybe twice?
-
@Statmachine BRING IT ON!!!
-
@Statmachine Just the once. The Maui is in two years.
-
@Kcmatt7 OOPS
-
@Statmachine I did the thought the same thing at first lol.
-
So possible UK in the Big12/SEC challenge, Nova, ASU, Michigan State, Louisville, Tennessee, and Stanford. That is a brutal Non Conference schedule and Coach Self is not done! Something tells me KU’s record is not gong to be squeaky clean going into Conference play!
-
@Kcmatt7 thanks for the clarification I got confused for a moment. Playing them twice would have been weird.
They have already had two of their best players confirm they are leaving. And yes Jaren Jackson was one of their best players, Izzo didn’t play him enough. If Ward goes too that will hurt.
Langford and Winston is a pretty good starting back court duo. I’ve also heard from the MSU grads in my family that there is a ton of excitement around the program for Xavier Tillman and that he could have a break out season next year. I would guess McQuaid starts for them at the wing…not exciting but the other options are FR or Kenny Goins.
-
@BShark Langford not transferring?
Izzo will put a good team on the court no matter what. And it will be our first game running around with froshies on a bigger stage than they have ever played on. So I am already going to chalk that game up as a loss or a surprise win.
I don’t expect us to be a very good team until mid January. Not unless everyone is a very unselfish player and fully buys in. Individual talent is there, we will have to wait to see what team chemistry looks like.

Cunliffe, Moore, Vick, Lawson, Doke all have 3 years of College basketball exp. I expect them to gobble up a lot of minutes until the Freshmen get up to speed

You completely lost me at Cunliffe and to a lesser extent Moore. Moore and Self are going to butt heads like a couple rams, calling that now. I just do not see the fit. Unless Self has TRULY changed. Moore is not a PG just a small 2G. Cunliffe didn’t play this year when there were 9 eligible scholarship players. He will be firmly behind Garrett and KJ. Also Vick if he is back but I expect Vick to be shown the door.
@Kcmatt7 The concerns with Langford were put to rest. He will be back for MSU next year.
-
I am open to the possibility that Self has changed and Charlie won’t make him absolutely lose his mind but if not…
-
@Statmachine That is quite a stout schedule.
-
@BShark I actually do think Charlie will be better than you are giving him credit for. He is better than Tharpe ever was, and that is my bar for backup PGs lol.

I think he’s fine as a back-up guard (1 or 2). I actually think he is pretty comparable to Tharpe and Nic Moore. Hopefully more to the Nic side.
I don’t think KU is in a good spot though if he is ever starting and/or “gobbling up minutes”.
