Who is our Barry Brown?
-
We’ll need him against Trae. Is it Devonte? Is it Vick? Garrett?
-
According to ESPNs Greenberg, we may want to double team him. http://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=22125320
-
I mentioned that in another thread. Young does not have yet the experience to deal with double teams consistently and hence turned the ball over. I am sure he will spend a lot of practice time practicing against double and triple teams and learning how to avoid traps.
-
Graham did really good against Heild back in 2016. I think he held him to 6 first half points. If he can open another can of whatever he drank that night I think we got this!

I think two key factors will help us deal with Trae…
-
He has played enough games now so his tendencies have been figured out and opponents are starting to take advantage.
-
He is showing signs of wearing down. That should be big, especially down the stretch in his games… and also in his season.
I’m not trying to be critical of Trae. He is an amazing player and he has my total respect and admiration!
-
-
Devonte is capable of stopping a big chunk of Trae’s game… especially if DG goes into the film room first and learns his tendencies.
Here is a clue: he should hedge his drives and hedge him tough off-the-ball to deny him the ball.
All we really need to do is WEAR HIM DOWN! Keep fresh legs on Trae and make him fight to get open. Wear him down and watch us fly by OU in the second half!
Another key is to make Trae deal with ball screens on defense. Make Trae fight through screens… very tiring task!
-
One factor against, Kruger will work with Trae in fixing the things that got him. If he is smart and listens to his coach he will not make the same mistakes or as often.
-
-
Fresh legs, I wonder if that means Cunliffe time. He’s gonna have to do some studying if that’s the case.
-
This league has got to be wearing the Youngster down. This kind of competition game in and out; and now everyone is getting after him because been labeled the next Steph Curry…he’s getting the Kansas treatment. Additionally it was just a matter of time before the coaches got enough tape and started scouting him better. He is fearless when it comes to shooting from range, so if those aren’t falling they can lose to KSU. If they are falling, they can beat just about anyone.
-
Just a friendly reminder that her dropped on 43 in a game less than a week ago. I think it’s more likely that he had an off night at KSU instead of believing that coaches (especially Weber) figured out the keys to shutting him down…
-
At home he’s good for 40, he almost went to ku and he’s going to be very motivated to beat Self
-
@BeddieKU23 and so is KU
-
@BeddieKU23 Won’t be last time somebody comes to KU with a chip on their shoulder. We wanted him. It was his choice to settle on OU and watch us advance after they are eliminated.
-
Well hopefully we don’t have a guy that’s selfish enough to go rogue and throw up a 25 foot shot at the end of a tight game lol. Brown is a good player and deserves credit for his job on Young but Young also missed shots he usually makes. He has struggled @ WVU and @ KSU, two tough places for any freshman idc how talented you are.
-
Unequivocally Marcus Garrett. Full bore, 100% defense. Foul out. The nice thing with Garrett is when he focuses on defense and doesn’t care if he scores, we won’t notice much of a change on the offensive end. Then, after that, I have no idea. Graham’s our best defender, but that would be an exhausting task for our top offensive guy.
Might we see a junk defense?
-
@chriz I’ll tell you who. Bill Self. He will scheme and scheme and watch tape multiple times. All our guards have the size, length, speed and experience necessary to at least slow Trae down.
I say put Svi on him for stretches. That kid has grown the Frak up!! He proved that he was a man against WVU! Beast!
-
Vick and Garrett should get the defensive assignment.

Yah I cant be critical of Trae either, just because he snubbed KU and because we’re gonna beat the snot out of OU both times

Fight thru screens from Udoka!
-
Didn’t he say he want to be on the team to knock off KU?
-
All good points but keep in mind that he will have to defend one of our players and he can get in foul trouble quickly if he is not careful or tries to do too much.
-
@JayHawkFanToo he doesn’t play on ball D
-
Let’s focus on and beat Faylor first.
-
Remember KU fans. Trae Young said that he was going to beat KU and help OU win a conference title before he ever stepped on the court.
He probly shouldn’t have said that… Just sayin.
-
Then KU can take advantage of that and drive on him like there is no tomorrow.
-
@truehawk93 Exactly. I want to enjoy spanking BU.
-
FINE BILL, I’LL SHOW YOU…I’LL TAKE MY BOYS OFF THE COURT
Losing to KU gives me a bear of a headache
How in the hell does HOF Coach Bill Self get the best of me?
-
Garrett would be the natural choice, he’s played against Young before so he has some familiarity . Garrett being longer and having some defensive skill could make some of Young’s shots more difficult to make. The issue with moving Marcus to guard Young is he extends the 3 pt line as far as he wants and that would take Garrett out of rebound situations.
If we take the defensive intensity we displayed in Morgantown to Norman I feel good about our chances in limiting him enough to win.
However KU hasn’t defended consistently so I have no idea what we will see.
I know who I don’t want guarding Trae… That one is easy

Who was the last team that advanced after WE were eliminated? When was it?
-
@chriz OU with Heild got smoked in the final four by the same ‘nova team that knocked off KU in the elite 8. The better team was undoubtedly KU, but OU took advantage of the path they were given.
