So you don't like Mitch?

@Jayballer54 Talking about Mitch. Mitch had no points. Newman hard carried the team for a bit w/ his scoring.

Just a big win for us on the road , – seems like this is one thing that seperates us from the rest of the league - we find ways to win on the road where others really struggle. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

He played solid defense, rebounded well, 3 block and took a couple of hard charges and should have had one more but the refs callers a blocking foul.
-
@JayHawkFanToo Yep. Impacted the game about as much as you can for not even taking a shot.
-
Mitch is no longer a liability but a solid contributor.
-
@JayHawkFanToo Agree. His improvement even just over the course of this season has been impressive. I’m not holding my breath when he is out there anymore.

He fills in pretty nice - really good compliment player - like I said he does a lot of the dirty work. ALOT better shot blocker then I would of ever imagined also. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
I chose Mitch to be the breakout player las season before he even played one game…I guess I might have been one year early.
-
@JayHawkFanToo Yeah he just wasn’t ready last year. He actually wasn’t bad defensively last year but on offense he was an unmitigated disaster (didn’t know what he was doing etc). He has brought the offense up to what I would consider acceptable this year which makes him totally fine to have out there.
-
Mitch is improving on a pretty normal improvement curve. He was a talented, but somewhat raw freshman. He wasn’t quite ready, although he had a baseline amount of talent to belong on a D1 roster. He just wasn’t ready to play in a major conference - this is how all but about 60 or 70 freshmen in the country are.
Now as a sophomore he is ready to contribute. He’s not ready to start, but he can play minutes. He can impact the game in a variety of ways, but he can’t necessarily impact the game on a consistent basis.
Next year, he may be able to have a more consistent impact, and as a senior, he may be a critical cog.
There’s nothing unusual about that, except here at KU we are used to seeing freshmen come in and play right away, or leave if they don’t.

“To me, Mitch is cool because he lets everybody know how excited he is to be out there,” Self said. “He can screw up, but he screws up going 100 mph. I know his teammates and the staff appreciate it, but I also think fans appreciate it, too.”
-
I’ve always liked Mitch. - -the kid just flat ass gets after it. - Is he always right? – No - -is he out of position get beat at times - -Yes. - -BUT the kid just flat out gets after it - -again I had no idea how well he can block shots - -will only get better - - - we need these kind of kids - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAYLONG BABY

Love Mitch.
-
@BShark Thats bunch of crap IMO, how any KU fan could go on social media and say they hate a player SMH. I get on Mitch plenty but I don’t hate nor have ever hated any KU player past or present, wish some of them made better decisions.
-
@kjayhawks I loved Mitch’s response. Also that he found this means he was searching for his name because the tweet didn’t actually @ him. Mitch is the best.
-
@BShark Someone probably told him.
-
Mitch is great because he is just having so much fun. He knows this is probably it for him. So he’s soaking it up and loving being a Jayhawk. I don’t know how any Hawks fan couldn’t appreciate that.
-
-
@JayHawkFanToo nice shout out to our man Mitch! But if I had to put money on a KU sleeper, I might be tempted to take DeShoota too. Co-sleepers that tag team with big plays maybe?
-
@BShark The guy that wrote that was a tool.
-
Mitch and DeSousa - 14 points/ 14 rebounds.
-
After watching the S&M show…Silvio and Mitch for those of you with dirty minds, I am sure that Doke can take the first weekend off and KU will be fine.
Team seems to be peaking at the right time. Convincing win yesterday against a team that beat KU comfortably twice before and without the starting Center.
-
Meeotch committed two stupid fouls AND fouled out, so…He’s soft and at times a little dorky on the court at times. But overall, he did some great work. S&M will have to play much smarter in the next game and the final game. They cannot afford to foul out.
Meeotch should know better too. I can give Silvio some passes, but not Heavyfoot.

-
You can’t be soft and take as many charges as Mitch has taken; probably leads the team in that category.

As I said, overall he played a fair game. Yes, he takes some charges, but those charges are 50/50. They’ve also hurt him. Watch the game again, compare his ball protection to Silvio. He’s careless and weak. OSU double teamed him and he damn near lost the ball. Samuels tipped a shot in that Mitch should’ve snagged. He literally went over Mitch and used Mitch’s hand to tip the ball in the net. Watch the game again, and watch Mitch objectively. Self pushes him hard too. I thought Self was going to blow a gasket at Mitch and Svi.
I’m trying to pay him a compliment. I think he can play even better. Lastly, I do love his stroke and he looks so good when he sinks treys.
-
50-50? He has taken a lot of obvious charges and yet he was called for blocking fouls. Refs seem to call fouls on him like they did on Josh Jackson last year. Having said that, I agree a couple of the fouls he was rightfully called for yesterday were silly.
-
@truehawk93 I find it hard to call Mitch soft when he is being asked to play a position he wasn’t ever meant to play. Two years in a row now. He hustles, dives, and takes charges every chance he gets. He blocks shots like a guy 4 inches taller. If you think that he is soft, I couldn’t imagine what you think of the rest of the team.
-
You said it so much better than I did.
-
It’s always hard to fault hustle plays!

Man, I’d hate to see you insult him!
-
@truehawk93 I am pretty sure Mitch was the only player who made any mistakes or silly fouls. Except for DG throwing the ball 8 rows up, or his how many other turnovers?
Mitch did exactly what he was asked to. Expecting perfection is nuts.
-
Mitch plays pretty close to his ceiling.
-
@JayHawkFanToo Agree. - - The only thing soft about Mitch is he needs time with Hudy. - No one comes close to him in drawing Charges as much as Mitch does. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG
-
Mitch is the next Landen. Lower ceiling, but solid fundamental based player who isn’t going to hurt the team playing long stretches.
-
Saw Landen’s ceiling after 5 years, l’ll go with Mitch.
-
Anyone catch self comparing garret to Russ rob? I think we have selfs new favorite player for the next 3 years but Mitch might be not too far behind. I love hearing self talk about Mitch’s attitude. He says it’s always perfect.

Didn’t hear/read that but I’m not surprised.
-
@benshawks08 I did read that and was surprised. Sounds like he’s being groomed to lead the team.
I’m still surprised by garretts improvement. I’ve never done such a big 180 before with a player - from swearing at the tv when he was on the court to dang that kid his good and wow do I feel like a dumb@ss doubting coach.
But it’s a great feeling. As is the one that we are likely a number one seed, again. Got high hopes right now.

Naw…not perfection.

Maybe this is my point. He needs to be stronger. But he is playing a higher level at this point, especially the WVU game.

@BShark Garrett is one of the best freshman passers we’ve had. People talked about that Vick screen for the Newman three the other day, but it was Garrett who threw the pass across the court, and it was a perfect pass.

Some absolute posts about Mitch on the Phog good lord. I don’t get why people hate Mitch.
-
@BShark I said time and time again I’ve been so frustrated with how rude our fans haven’t been this season. Mitch played very little tonight, if you used the bathroom you may have missed his time. Silvio is starting to come into his own and I’d be shocked if doesn’t play more than Mitch the rest of way regardless of how far we go. If you have a account please tell the fools we are KU fans not UK. We have already achieved more than just about every person I know expected, it’s march. Enjoy getting wins period.
-
@kjayhawks I had to post that Mitch is better than walk-on material because multiple people claimed he wasn’t. I mean he was a top 100-ish recruit for crying out loud. After that I just closed the site.
Mitch gives it his all every time he steps on the court. Played out of position at the 5 all year. Is he perfect? No his game has some weaknesses but you can’t ask for more than what he gives and he had some crucial moments and big games for us this season.
-
@kjayhawks we had to count on Mitch when Silvio couldn’t play. He did pretty good.
-
Mitch leads the team in charges taken and considering his playing time that is a heck of a stat.
-
@BShark I think he will thrive once he gets to switch to the “4”.
