ISU Game Thread

@BShark I think that’s a good assessment. It will definitely depend on the matchups
-
@BShark yeah this team reminds me of 2010 and 2011. Both of those teams were as lazy as I can remember any team being and both lost to vastly inferior teams
-
@HawkChamp come on Hawkchamp, do you really expect a top 3 team to be able to play smart and aggressive for a whole 40 minutes? then i suppose you think the coaching staff should make changes or adapt to anything that the other team is doing. then you expect us to win at HOME against a sub-par team. you really think we can play like this and not go far in march.
-
@BShark later man! Have fun
-
@cragarhawk I always appreciate folks with negative opinions piling on. Thank you for sharing yours.
-
I think they’re pretty damn tough. But I also think something is going on right now. Or perhaps just this week. Idk if it’s all the press or what. I just haven’t seen the bickering amongst the backcourt like I did today. It’s a lil bothersome
-
I know, let us all turn on each other like preschool soccer players! That will make us feel better!
-
@BeddieKU23 There’s a difference between saying Jackson shares some of the blame, and he’s the only reason like you’re saying. Jackson absolutely deserves his share, but so does Graham who no showed on offense today, Svi whose defense prowess was exploited most of the second half, and Self for falling into old, bad habits of not subbing when his players were clearly running on fumes late d never brought in Vick, Lightfoot, or Coleby for a couple of minutes to let guys catch their breath.
There’s plenty of blame to go around for this one and to pin it all on one guy is neglecting everyone who no showed the second half and OT.
-
@cragarhawk it could be the press. Bill needs to take control
-
Baylor will win
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 I am blaming it on Iowa State.
-
@HawkChamp Go ahead & jump ship We’ll keep a life jacket for ya
-
@KUSTEVE well there you go. Perhaps it’s simply the fact that every individual is different. To you my opinion is negative cause it doesnt agree with yours. And to me it’s simply tempered and realistic based on what my eyes have seen. If I could see thru your eyes. That would be something wouldn’t it
-
@autohawk you know that Kentucky in 2012 is the only team with less than 3 losses to win a championship in the last 17 years?
-
@globaljaybird not jumping ship just saying that this team is lazy mentally just like the 2010 and 2011 teams.
-
To everyone: “My advice to you is to drink heavily” I’m going to take my own advice.
-
@HawkChamp I’m not sure how much more Bill can really control. I mean he can’t tuck them all into bed every night by 8 and such. All he can really do is give them the expectations and if they mess up…Punish accordingly.
-
@HawkChamp 2011-2012? You talking about the short-handed team that was tough as nails that took us to the finals and almost beat a loaded Kentucky team?
-
@cragarhawk 100 push ups for every bad pass.
-
@HawkChamp 100 per bad pass would kill a guy after this one lol
-
@approxinfinity that team was crazy tough mentally. Refuse to lose. It’s actually a travesty on history that they had end up playing a UK team that was just way talented. That group outplayed UK. Truth be told they should have lost easily by double digits
-
@kjayhawks that’s the point. Our guys get WAY too loose with the ball and it is frustrating that a supposedly veteran team can’t shore that up.
-
@cragarhawk yeah man. Never have I been so proud after a loss as after that final. We just ran out of time. Had them on the ropes. If we had BMac and Jamari I think we win that one.
-
@HawkChamp Considering they have probably slept about 2 hours a night while freaking out as they undergo a national media crucifixion, maybe they were just totally exhausted. These kids are not, and couldn’t be, used to the stresses they have been through.
Maybe give them a little benefit of the doubt before ascribing negative character flaws?
-
Perimeter defense could have been better, but ISU also made some tough shots. Especially Burton. Overall ISU shot 18-34 from 3 (53%) and broke a school record for 3’s made in a game. Sometimes the other teams just plays pretty well. I wish ISU would do this in the NCAA tournament, though.
-
@approxinfinity oh I still think about the rebound that Trob got and he one handed it to outlet which he commonly did… And they stole it. And scored 2 to go up by 6 I think. I’ve said many times if we get that outlet and score that team was never gonna lose a game theyre within 4 pts with a minute to go
-
@mayjay no, they have been doing that crap all year.
-
@KirkIsMyHinrich school record? Wow.
-
@HawkChamp I agree look back on this thread, I was taking crap for saying we had to tighten up with a double digit lead or we would let them right back in it. I say everyone stays and makes 500 FTS had too many misses late.
-
@KirkIsMyHinrich idk if there is a stat for that. But seems like you don’t win very many games when ya let the either team throw up 34 treys
-
Baylor is catching up. Down 7 with 4:43 to go
-
@HawkChamp I don’t see lazy. Occasionally stupid (perhaps “ill-advised” is better?) but they are always moving. Just not to the right places sometimes…
-
@mayjay Lucas definitely had some lazy outlets. Which is disappointing cause he worked so hard on the glass. Then I think maybe what 4 TOS on JJ when he tried to go to the hole and just got stripped
-
@mayjay lazy mentally my friend. We had ten more turnovers than ISU. That really hurts when they are so sloppy. Do they even talk about it in practice?
-
@cragarhawk said:

I am tired of his one-handed missed dunks… And getting fouled doesn’t help if you miss FTs. I would prefer a protected-ball layup and a foul.
-
As an aside good for Steve Prohm. Huge win. they may get their chance to do this in the tournament. Definitely helps their resume.
-
Again, Svi overhelping cost three points with that corner three. What on earth did he think he was doing standing at the free throw line? He left his man wide open and put us down four. There’s no way Bill teaches that is there?
-
@cragarhawk I think it might be the opposite actually. Usually when a team throws up that many 3’s they don’t win the game. On the season, Iowa State shoots 36.8% from the 3-point line and attempts 25 3’s per game. If they shot 34 3’s at around their season average then I think KU probably wins this by 8-10 points in regulation. But they were hot today.
-
@KirkIsMyHinrich and we did little to stop it. You have to force the other team off the three point line and make them shoot a tough shot over the top. Poor coaching today
-
Thank you, grapes.
-
Well thank you KSU. Of course, the flip side of that is…they have momentum, and will probably be even more pumped for us on Monday.
-
KSU scored 18 points in the second half.
-
Thanks KSU
-
@drgnslayr @nuleafjhawk alright which one of you guys didn’t do your ritual today?
-
Better be more focused on Monday or we will be on a losing streak
-
@HawkChamp that’s what bothers me I didn’t think we played hard and when ksu beats us it’s because they play harder.
-
@kjayhawks that is a constant theme, isn’t it. It seems like our opponents always want it more than we do. I felt like that was true in the second half today.
-
@KUSTEVE Just ignore or humor them Jethro Yes our lives go in a normal fashion - but some who really knows?? WTH might normal be?
-
Well @rocketdog You &I sure as hell missed the boat on this one. I never saw this coming.
-
@globaljaybird me too!
