Kinney won’t be a factor til next year?
Hard to assume anyone will be back in this day and age. But he does need time, can be good eventually. Was a bit of a ghost tonight and had some rough plays. The guard room is such that he will have to play. We only have three guys that can really handle. Stokes/White are good secondary handlers but it's not the same.

All of a sudden we have 5 bigs. Mr. Blyden was calm and deadly. TKR moved in just like we were hoping. Adkins with the second or first best dunk and not to be forgotten 2/2 from the line. We will need all our bigs against Mizzou who is the tallest team in the game with a 7'5" man. Stokes doesn't mind hitting the boards either. We still lost the offensive board battle but threw out weight around on the other end. We had our usual clumsy 5 or 6 minutes of disjointed offense that will cost us against good teams as we go down by double digits probably. More good than bad with nine threes and we shot better from the field than the line 58 to 53%.

Dawes is more of a glue guy and rebounder from what I’ve seen from him both in a KU uniform and Utah. I think Kinney will be very good in a few seasons but not sure he is here long enough for us to see it. Kohl and Blyden are going to take some minutes from him. I’d like to see us play the bigs a little more often between Reeves and Paul. We gave up a lot of offensive rebounds and that’s why they had more shots than we did. Not a big deal in this game but easily could be moving forward against teams with skilled bigs.

We do that consistently.

Well, we should start a guess the score thread every game … I projected 93-67. Close!
So far in a game that counts, we don’t appear to be running the game through Stokes as I thought we would. He barely seemed involved at times. Weird.
I stand halfway corrected: Blyden is still a Smurf, but he balled out. Impressive.
TKR is a hefty human. He looks like an old school power forward. Thick.
We got some sorting to do with players, rotations and PT, huh. My spidey sense tells me we have to be careful with how many bigger, slower players we have on the floor together. Especially If Self has em outside and hedging. We could be real slow footed at times.
Predictions: White will lead us in points and 3s, Council in assists and steals, but not sure about rebounds. Playing time could dictate that. Stokes potentially.
I see we continue to suck at FTs. Gotta fix that, quickly. It’ll be important soon, especially for Mr Foul Line (Stokes).
More Trent Perry! More Adkins! And I’m serious on Adkins. Quicker feet and agility are helpful.

Oh, and did I mention we had 41 freaking bench points?????
I recall last year seeing under 10 most games! Wow.
Go Hawks!

Slop first game. This is a misfit toy group and hopefully it sorts itself out into something. Glad to have ball back at least.

Oklahoma lost to East Texas AM. Ouch.

UCLA over Arizona

Yeah. Talent is there, but you can tell we added multiple players late.
-
Best line up going forward appears to be Council, Blyden, Stokes, White, TKR. Seems like Self already has his 8 man rotation mostly settled on with those 5 plus Reeves, Dawes, and Kinney.
I said after Duke that this team will struggle with chemistry issues early on, but I think by the time conference play starts, this group will be a real threat to win the Big 12 and national titles if they stay healthy and eligible.

Collectively there's talent but I think familiar issues will pop up as the season goes due to the misfit roster construction. Tired of beating that drum though.
I loved how TKR fit in and he's someone they desperately need at the 5.
I thought White played like a confident scorer.
Blyden looked good but remember the opponent given to how he looked against Duke and Louisville. His shooting is desperately needed.
Fordham was a lot better then expected and had legit size so good to see them pull away after the timeout early in the 2nd. Good win to start
-
It's really strange that there will be three 24-year-olds on a college team. Outside shooting is going to be iffy again. Hopefully we don't get bipolar Tre White this season.
-
Leroy Blyden Highlights vs. Fordham (15 Pts, 3 Asts)
-
Tyran Stokes Highlights vs. Fordham (15 Pts, 7 Rebs)
-
Tre White Highlights vs. Fordham (22 Pts, 5 Rebs)
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 I agree for the most part but think Reeves might be better in the middle than TKR against bigger teams

Yea, def looks like a bunch of misfit toys at the moment. Well maybe not misfit, but unfamiliar. As a team, we need a focal point. I imagine in this weird era of a new team every year, lots of teams like us will need time to gel and pick a path or style.
Hoping we can do that quickly. Will Stokes take over?

Mbiya with the limited minutes he played grabbed 6 rebounds.
