    Payback time.

  • @wrwlumpy Welcome to the Phog, Clones. Welcome to the ass whupping, Fred.

OK to be mad, but it is better to get even.

  • @wrwlumpy His little boy is going to be crying again.

  • In the last game, Holly did a piece on Fred’s wife. Will we see one on Cindy tomorrow night. Will Mushburger hit on Holly again?

  • @KUSTEVE We sure looked like bully’s after this video. Beautiful wife, Crying boy, EJ became a national villain for making this young man feel this way. I like the kid. If you really care about winning, then tears should be there when you lose. Hell, Roy used to cry after every tournament loss.

  • @wrwlumpy

I remember a lot of Roy’s tears as a Jayhawk. Roy is a very emotional person and he takes everything personal. At least he keeps it real.

It was a media cheap shot to pan out to Fred’s son and show that. Where will they look for drama next, the lady’s bathroom with a toilet-cam?

  • We let them score 86 points. Someone said that 21 points were scored because we did not get back in transition.

Here’s the box from that game. Perry and Wayne both fouled out.

  • @wrwlumpy

Look at the highlighted stats for that game, they tell the story…

  • That look at the game is simply accepting the box score. We played who we played, we ran what we ran, and what can we do better within those parameters.

I don’t look at games like that. The highlighted items are important, to be sure. And looking at the game solely based on the results and box score, that stuff is important. But it’s only part of the story.

For my money, though, it’s up to coaches to change the box score. Coaches impact the game in everything the team does, from the schemes, to the minutes, to when time outs are taken.

Think of it as the difference between looking at things in two dimensions vs. three dimensions.

Here’s a good example vs. ISU: Landen Lucas played 19 minutes against ISU. Simply a horrible match-up. Then look at Traylor. We basically got nothing out of both of those guys. One could certainly argue that the decision to put 34 minutes of faith in those two was a major determining factor in the game, if you want to look deeper.

Now, tie that to the stats that are highlighted above … ISU scored over 40 points in the paint.

So what is the purpose of playing those two any significant minutes in a match up vs. ISU? We know Self say Cliff to inspire him - I support that. But there is no denying that Cliff is simply the better player.

And that leads to what is the best scheme against ISU, which I touched on in another thread. Going small, Oubre at the 4, or playing 4 out, one in, and going with Ellis out, Cliff in (like we did vs. OU).

  • @wrwlumpy Forget about the boy - I hope Freddy is crying after this game. I hope he’s emotionally scarred for life and gives up shaving, bathing and brushing his teeth. I hope the Mayor becomes a homeless dumpster diver.

Of course, I mean that in the nicest possible way.

  • @wrwlumpy “*We sure looked like bully’s after this video. Beautiful wife, Crying boy, EJ became a national villain for making this young man feel this way. I like the kid. We became villains for winning the game. Oh, ok…maybe we should throw the game, and let them win then…we wouldn’t want to look bad, would we? I hope they bring the kid to the game, and he cries like a little girl, and we look like the biggest bullies on the block, as we stomp their ass.

  • Our Hawks appear to play to their competition at least from an effort standpoint.

    TCU blah…

K-State just enuff to win by 12…

UT 3 friggin turnover beatdown to Rick Barnes very last compound!

I expect full AMPAGE tonite and a double digit win.

  • The biggest thing to me is that this team comes out with energy & aggressiveness and make shots. We didn’t shoot a single FT until what the 10 minute mark in the 2nd half in the first meeting. We didn’t get many against K-St either. We have to draw fouls and make enough outside shots to keep them from gimmicking us with their other stuff.

We should basically sacrifice our 2 guards on offensive rebounds for getting back. We were crushed in transition by Mckay, Long, whoever else ran the floor. Selden played great D Saturday, we need another effort like that to keep Long in check. To me when he’s making 3’s from 3o feet he’s impacting the game more than any other player on their team.

Cliff was benched to send a message even though his offense was better than Lucas/Traylor combined in the first game. I bet Traylor shows much better effort tonight, not sure how much PT Cliff gets if he can’t guard outside.

That’s where playing small might be the best thing we can do. Play Oubre/Greene at the 4 and let them fly. Offensively the 4 out 1 in seemed to open the floor more late in the game and seemed effective. I’m not sure how much of that we will see but it could be a game changer. We also need to be wary of Morris’s D. I noticed him jumping passing lanes and disrupting pace of sets when the ball came his way. Our passes have to be on point tonight.

Other than that we just need to rebound well and not let Jones/Hogue get offensive boards. It seemed every one they got in Ames was a killer. I know the house will be rocking and our players understand its payback time and a game we must win.

  • @VailHawk “Our Hawks appear to play to their competition at least from an effort standpoint.”

    Besides Kentucky…

    Sorry.

  • @HighEliteMajor

“Then look at Traylor. We basically got nothing out of both of those guys.”

True… but we lacked team energy in that game. No one was willing to get back on defense. Energy is Traylor’s calling card… so when he doesn’t bring it, he doesn’t have much to offer.

The game is in our house, and with the only one to beat us. If the guys can’t get jacked up for this game we might as well throw in the towel on the rest of the season and March.

And now they know the difference of bringing the energy for half a game (OU) and bringing the energy for an entire game (UT).

They better know what to bring.

And Brannen is now our offensive “rescuer”… so when we start slumping on offense we need to run a play to open him up. The 3 points not only gives us a points boost, it helps put our guys back on energy track, including on defense. Brannen only scored 2 points in Ames and played just 5 minutes.

  • Hoiberg is the type of coach that gives Self problems.

Self prefers to play a system style. Hoiberg is about mismatches. As Self has often said, he wants to “run his stuff.” Hoiberg doesn’t have stuff to run. He’s looking to exploit mismatches, which turns everything on its head for Coach Self, because that short circuits the system.

But there is a way to beat this - Change the system.

KU should play 4 or even 5 out today. I would love to see a lineup of Mason, Selden, Greene, Oubre and Svi at some point tonight. That would dare ISU to go into the post instead of spreading the floor. ISU is much more designed to spread the floor than pound it inside. This lineup would also negate McKay’s speed advantage on our bigs, while making him come out away from the basket on defense.

KU has to turn the matchups on their ear and make ISU uncomfortable tonight.

  • @justanotherfan I believe Fred is 0-5 in AFH after tonight & hopefully decides to take the bus back to Ames instead of the charter to give his guys a long ride home to think about the loss. Well, not so likely on the second one, but money in the bank at the 1st Nat on the prior. If we can execute the P & R off the 4 out, we may have to re-name Cliff the “plumber” after all the flushes he slams tonight. Just as big a dagger as the trifecta in AFH. RCJH !!

  • @globaljaybird would I love to see Cliff block the crap out of that hair tossing McKay! We just need to sprint back on d. I’m sure we thought we were hustling back until they saw game film, shouldn’t happen again!

  • @Crimsonorblue22 You gonna be there? Hold up a kubuckets sign if so !!

  • @globaljaybird don’t think they would see it from the top row!!!
