UNLV REBELS
-
Winners over Temple and Arizona. They will be blinded by the afternoon sunlight coming through the west windows.
Famous Alumni
CBS National Game of the Week. Finally, I get to watch the Jayhawks without nursing a beer or sitting next to Mizzou fans watching the OSU game.
-
That campus looks pretty at night.
-
-
@wrwlumpy be fun to be there now, last time I didn’t do so well!
-
-
Dang, which one is the library?
-
PHOF!
-
@jaybate-1.0 The library is that dark flat edifice in the lower right hand corner of campus. 3-ring interior, and named after a pair of Rebel dropouts, Mr. B and Mr. B. Statue looms near the center ring, former dispossessed famous mentor, munching an old white towel.
-
-
I don’t give a flip about any of UNLV’s teams, but I do love me some Las Vegas…
-
@nuleafjhawk which one is you?
-
UNLV Cheerleaders
-
@Crimsonorblue22 I’m the one yelling at Chumlee to sit his fat butt down so I can watch the game!
-
@nuleafjhawk ha, I’m the cheerleader on the far right!!! Ha
-
Bravo! Are those full-body panty hose? I know plenty of rough bikers who like to wear them under their leathers when they go for a cold winter ride out.
-
University of Needless Light Voltage
-
@drgnslayr ha ha no p hose!!! I have a good tan!!
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Wow, you are quite beautiful!!
But why is your right leg bloodied up to the calf?
-
UNLV is a very tall, athletic team, and it appears their cheerleading squad is very tall as well. I wonder if the fans are going to have problems seeing over their feathers…
-
UNLV i thought at the beginning of the year would be an easy game. A lot has changed since I had that assumption. I believe their big win over Arizona had more to do with the cats feeling the same bug KU had at Temple, the kids wanted to get home for the holidays.
I also thought with all the roster turnover they had that they would struggle mightily with a freshman laden team. Vaughn has been steady, a kid KU recruited to the end but Christian Wood has skyrocketed up Draft boards with his play. 29 points in a loss to Wyoming the other night and avg 3 blocks a game. Between him and offensively challenged Goodluck Okonoboh they avg almost 6 blocks a game. That spells trouble for KU. We have let a lot of teams block way more shots then their average. It’s safe to say they might block 10-12 shots on Sunday the way we are going. We should still win because its at home and we are a much better team but anything can happen like last year vs SDSU.
-
@KUSTEVE jethro, sorry to hear Elly May passed away! Condolences!
-
Oubre and Vaughn played together at Findlay Prep last year. Should be a good matchup between the two of them.
I am worried about any athletic frontline we face. Honestly, the only elite athlete we have at the 4 or 5 is Cliff. Perry is a good athlete, Mickelson is roughly average and Landen is probably below average for a D1 player (still above average for society overall). Jamari is a good athlete, but undersized and very unrefined skillwise. Athletic bigs are this team’s kryptonite.
-
@KUSTEVE Your cousin helped me get to puberty. RIP Donna Douglas aka Ellie May.
-
Highlights of the Arizona UNLV game. Fans storm the court.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Wow…had no clue she passed away. I was madly in something with her when I was young. She being my cousin and all…
-
@wrwlumpy Me too, buddy…me too. I wished I was a critter back then. Just got home from work, and saw Crimson’s post about her passing away. May she rest in peace.
-
Oubre and Vaughn play different positions so its unlikely for them to see much of each other in match-ups. This is a team that relies on Vaughn and Wood for most of their scoring. Both can go off so it will be the defense’s job to key on these guys.
The team that beat Zona could upset us if things went wrong for us. I believe Zona sleepwalked the same way KU did going to Temple. That week saw plenty of teams lose that wouldn’t have usually. So far they haven’t won on the road, and just dropped to Wyoming so its not like UNLV is consistent by any means.
-
I think they may matchup some because McCaw, Cornish and Vaughn are all of similar size (roughly 6-6). Since UNLV isn’t very deep, I could see Kelly and Rashad ending up on each other for some of the game, although Selden probably draws the majority of that assignment.
-
I’m shocked to find out that KU is a 13 point favorite in today’s game. I hope that is the case. At this juncture, 13 seems like a blowout. Make it happen.
-
@wrwlumpy Absolutely. 13 seems pretty aggressive since we have not exactly been blowing teams out and UNLV beat Arizona. If we win this game by 13 I will be not only excited but surprised. I see us winning this game but by 5-7 points in a hard fought contest.
RCJH.
-
@joeloveshawks KU Basketball is like a box of chocolates - you never know what you’re gonna get!!! I say we win by 9 points, and Cliff leads us in scoring today…Cliff is my pick to click today…
-
@KUSTEVE I like that attitude. Cliff is going to do it sometime…why not today? Oubre has shown he can be the man, Mason is having a great season. Hard to believe that Selden and Ellis seem to be the two guys in the starting lineup I am the most concerned about. Never thought I would be saying that before the year started.
-
Hawk to Rock
-
Does seem like a big line. We are at home though and the rebels haven’t played great on the road. Ill take a 13 pt victory as long as the individual performances we see today are incouraging
-
Did anyone else see the quote from Self the other day?
“It’d be nice to make shots. If you make shots, you can loosen defense and that kind of stuff,” Self said. “But our bigs aren’t big, so we need to get them away from the basket and work them back in rather than just post them all the time on the low block, because they will struggle scoring over length just as most people struggle scoring over length.”
I really like hearing this kind of talk from Self. This is some of the discussion we had a number weeks ago. Something to watch for today.
-
Probably why all of us on this site feel somewhat edgy about our team.
-
@wrwlumpy Wow. I can’t see 8 losses. I say 6 is possible. Not 8
-
@Hawk8086 Wow. 10-8? Let’s say we do what we ALWAYS do and only drop 0-2 games at AFH. That means we are going to lose 6 of our 9 road games? Give me a break.
-
@HighEliteMajor Talk is talk, but can he walk the walk? Cliff hasnt proven he can shoot further out than 5 feet. Perry has been bench worthy the last 2 games. Same goes with our other bigs. We all know UNLV has a couple near footers that are long and athletic. KU surely needs to try something different against this team if they want to win. Just the normal hi lo, inside out game wont work anymore. Perry cant shoot, Cliff is good but inconsistently so. KU’s strength so far? Well, the most obvious to me anyways. They are shooting 39% from three point land and leading the Big 12 in this stat!
-
@wrwlumpy Yeah, 10 and 8 for KU? That seems a bit too harsh, even for our guys. I just watched the replay of OU and Baylor. Both teams good but didnt strike me as good enough to sweep KU in their series. ANd, both of those teams project into the top half of the conference. I dont buy 10 and 8. Nope. Maybe 13-5 or 14-4.
-
@Lulufulu I think you’re a little harsh on Perry. Granted, he hasn’t lived up to what are pretty lofty expectations. But, look at his line from the last game…not bench worthy. He can shoot…he can shoot well enough to draw the other teams big guys out if that is what Self wants to do.
-
Looks like we’ll get to see the start of the game on CBS after all. Thanks Indy for putting away the Bengals early!
By the way, RIP Stuart Scott. Another loss to cancer. I always thought he was too much of a UNC homer, but he knew his stuff.
-
@Lulufulu I agree 100%. But I don’t think Self is saying to necessarily have the post guys shoot more from outside. I think what Self is talking about is still getting shots close to the rim, but getting the ball to the guys differently. Our standard deal is the post entry pass to the stagnant big guy on the block. He’s referring to the bigs receiving the ball in different ways, I believe.
For example, perhaps, more direct flashing across the lane (coming from the other side toward the ball), elbow to box slide (post at the elbow and slide down), some low to low exchange (movement between two bigs box to box – or even elbow to box) or some screening action. I think that’s what he means by “work(ing) back in.”
Again, that seems real positive to me. But as you say, “talk is talk.”
-
At the game… Why aren’t we pressing their SR point guard that appears to have junior high handles?
-
@Kip_McSmithers and can’t see cause of his hair in his eyes!!!
-
Not a lot of whistles either. Who’s the ref with the old woman’s haircut?
-
@Kip_McSmithers Has to back in on the dribble so it’s definitely there for the pickin’.
-
From what Ive seen as a team they’re a little questionable in the ball handling department. Not sure why we don’t press more???
-
@Kip_McSmithers let’s hope for a better 2nd half! Surely someone can hit some outside shots??
-
Guys seem slow to rotate, especially when BG’s on the floor. I’m singing “Oh say can you see SVI” for the 2nd half.
