Interesting. May as well get him in early to build up strength and conditioning for next year. Learn the system, too.

That’s a huge bummer. Would have been a great rotation player. We’re digging Diggy now!

A thought not based on any information just a gut feeling: I could see Bill retiring after next year. It’s either that or he has to change his approach because you can’t count on having a main core of guys for 3-4 years anymore.

Agreed. Or sooner. And this is the first time ever that I’m seriously questioning Self and his game plan or ability.

@rockchalkjayhawk A lot of it this year is he has lost a good chunk of the locker room. He needs to fix that but I’m not sure if it’s possible.
This team would be better if AJ Storr simply was not on the roster probably.

It genuinely seems like Coach has lost this locker room already. Bringing in all these guys was to lessen the load on the core 3 instead we’re getting more of a mediocre core than ever.

I’m not even trying to point fingers. But from the outside looking in Self has made some mistakes and I’m not putting it all on the transfers as I’m sure they weren’t told during the recruiting process they’ll get a front row seat to the Dajuan/KJ/Hunter show.

Man, that absolutely sucks if true. You had to wonder WTF was up when Diggy was starting today. I suppose it could have been strategic – play small to combat there size. But sure seems like he’s messing with guys.
But what other chunks other than Storr could he lose? Hunter, Passmore, Griffen?
Insane if this is true. I guess that backs up the argument that Self is maybe not fitting in to the free agency era. grrr.

Bill’s lost the locker room with recruits he’s brought in
Rylan a starter on a final 4 team and comes here and can’t get minutes
Storr needed to be encouraged to go be himself but learn to play harder on D
Instead Self acts like he’s gonna tear down and rebuild him completely and neuters him just like he has every transfer since the portal
He cherishes back to the basket big men and running the offense through them
He’s not built for 2024

We won but that doesn’t ignore the fact the system sucks.
The issues with it: You need 3 years in it to grasp it AND have Bill’s trust for a longer leash
It’s built on timing which takes a ton of time to work on
Transfers can’t transfer in and grasp it nor are they given a leash too
It’s outdated in that it starts inside out with poor ball movement as the ball sticks in the post
2 bigs = more turnovers compared to 4 guards
We play down to the competition with this style which is what bad teams want. Score less and give them a chance
You want proof? See that 2022 team
Got down to Miami and we got out in transition upped the possessions and dominated
Unc same thing after halftime
Self’s system gets us in holes early and more often than against good teams or on the road

@kuballin10 if you eliminate the exageration ie “Bills system sucks” you have some valid points. His system doesnt suck. Nobody threw a dart that landed on Kansas in 2022. We won because his system succeeded.
Maybe we should celebrate a coach that develops kids, and who has won us 2 nattys, and 1 runner up? Maybe AJ Storr should unpack his bags and trust the guy with 807 wins he came to learn from and give him the benefit of the doubt and not be discouraged or undermine him when we lose 2 games?
We know this team has a high ceiling. That doesnt change when we lose a couple games. I subscribe to @drgnslayr ’s theory that Self didnt amp us for the Creighton game, and didnt care too much about losing that one. Then the Missouri loss was a hangover from our first disruption.
But when you break a bone it (usually) heals stronger. Lets hope for the best here and trust the process. He is much more enjoyable to root for than Dan Turdley, who has already lost 3 games.
I recommend you take a glass half empty approach to Hurley and scribble down a list of “sky is falling” points from the perspective of a Uconn fan and then see if it feels ridiculous or not (assuming you dont pull punches).
Anyway, hoping for the best. And if this is the twilight of the Bill Self Era I intend to root like hell for him.

The title game his system got us down 15-16….it was second half fast breaking (getting out and running) that won the title —— same for Miami game
His system is outdated by a mile with the thinking of don’t guard the three as well as the bucket and throw it inside because “closer to the basket means better chance”. Uh no - I don’t want Flory taking shots from DP next year at any time
Running offense through a post man actually causes the ball to stick which is Bill’s biggest pet peeve but yet that’s what he loves is dumping it inside from a stud wing to an average back to the basket big

It is on Landon’s podcast with Coach Self where coach self talked about throwing it into lando when we needed a bucket. He even mentions while being on a team with Frank, Graham and JJ……crazy poor philosophy if you ask me
We get our 4th or 5th best scoring option the ball because of proximity to the goal instead of giving it to our best players 5-10 feet further away
