44-22 and Lively and Whitehead are playing. I can’t figure out what Duke is trying to do on offense. It looks like they don’t have one.

Looks like Mardi Gras in Waco. I’m trying to write MARDI but it keeps editing it to Maddie

Just heard this. just another sign of how tough Big 12 is. - - The Big 12 has SIX - -of the TWETNY FIVE Mid Season players in contention for the Wooden Player of the year - - -SIX
-
Anyone wondering HOW Duke gets beat by 224 points to an unranked ACC team NC State.
Well this might be a big reason : - -Duke 1o assists & - -21 turnovers. - - -Getting beat on turnover points by NC State- - -30 - -2. - - Giving up 52 points to NC State backcourt. — - NC State 9 blocks - - Duke 2 - - & being outscored in the 1st half —44 - - -22 - - pretty good recipe for disaster
-
Mizzou blows a big lead and loses to Arkansas.
-
Nike delivered a handpicked squad to Duke and Johnny boy is going to lose 11 games with them.
-
Lol Baylor
-
Tcu looks really good! Fast.
-
Is Baylor the worst team in the B12?
-
I think West Virginia is worse.
-
No but they are not as good as the previous 3-4 Baylor teams which is a hard bar to continue to stay at. Cryer being off/on injured hurts them. They lack an athlete at the 4 position and Thamba being a non-scoring threat in the post makes them really perimeter oriented. It’s their defense that’s struggles the most not having that 4 man that can dictate the lane and disrupt.
TCU is a tough out especially with their experience and chemistry. I think they are our toughest matchup in the Big-12 this year 1-5. Extremely rare to see a team return its Top 8 players from a year ago.

Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch:
Poor roster construction though. College Basketball got old because of covid, the transfer portal and now NIL. You cannot win today with freshman leading & the teams still trying to do it are behind the times. I’m glad Jon doesn’t realize what’s happening and will continue to stockpile the 5-6 HS players that dream of playing at Duke for a year before they leave.
I don’t even bat an eye anymore when Duke/Kentucky get all the hoopla 5 star recruits. It used to give them an advantage but now you can go get ready made players in the portal and negate those advantages.
I’ve said a lot just to say they are not Bill Self at recruiting, development & roster construction.
-
A look at the Big-12 via Kenpom and conference record so far. I’ll try and update this weekly.
-
Lifted this: thought it was pretty good:
Since Dec 1:
KU Opponents: 81 fouls KU fouls: 112
KU Opponents: 112 free throws KU free throws: 69
“Damn refs! Always helping Kansas win!”
-
We haven’t been driving the ball hard enough. Just look at the Tech game. I think their entire offense started with a hard drive into the paint. We need MORE people than JWil driving!
-
Situationally I think we have benefitted the last two games.
What I took away from those stats is that KU is not a good team at drawing fouls and getting to the line. KU is 315th in the country in FT attempts per game. A definite weakness that needs improvement. Getting to the FT line can be impactful and the difference in a game where both teams are even statistically etc. How KU is running offense and generating points is perhaps the biggest factor for why they struggle getting to the line. We’ll see what evolves of this moving forward.

Damn! The Big 12 is as tough as everyone is making us out to be!
KSU trashes Texas! Baylor loses at home!
We can’t fall asleep on anyone this year… we started to with OSU at home and it took quite the effort to pull that one out!
I’m curious if this will become one of those “typical Jayhawk conference” seasons? We win-out at home and take some on the road then we appreciate teams like KSU doing some dirty work for us by punching some of the other conference best teams…
I’m just not sold on us being that kind of team this year. With our outrageous talent and proudly wearing a Nattie trophy around our necks during the conference season it makes more sense that we become a great road warrior team and then sometimes fall asleep at home. I hope it’s not the case and we come ready for the rest of our games… if not… we will be totally embarrassed sometimes. But that can work, too. Thank you, Kentucky, for spanking us on our home court last year! lol
-
After 1 week of league play and having watched bits and pieces of almost every other Big-12 game it’s already clear that the officiating has been inconsistent and sub-par, some of it down-right embarrassing. I saw Iowa St shoot a ball off the side of the backboard out of bounds last night in the first half, get the ball back and score. You have to be blind to have missed the ball not being out of bounds. OU fans were livid. And there’s just too many examples of things like this already.
KJ Adams was held by his legs trying to make a layup with no call in the first half of the Tech game. Just stuff that shouldn’t be missed, blatant obvious stuff here. We all know he was fouled on his game sealing Dunk as well. A play that could have gone differently and horribly wrong given his speed and momentum to the rim.
Perhaps having 3 refs on the court isn’t enough though I doubt more eyes will make a difference. I hope the Big-12 is reviewing this stuff and having active talks. There’s no reason after 1 week to have seen this level of inconsistency in league play.

Feels like a year KU wins the league running away with it… Texas was primed to give us a run for our money until the Bear ordeal. I’m not sure anyone else really has the horses to do it. TCU could, but only if they are essentially perfect.
-
The round-robin schedule + KU’s dominance in league play has evolved this league into what it is. Self raised the bar single handily for every team and it’s morphed into this beast now. We should all enjoy it because this is the end of this great league’s magic with OU/Texas leaving for money.
The league will be in a transition for years to come after this royal rumble ends
-
I hope you are right, but I fear we will be in for a tough conference battle that will come down to the end.
The upsets are just an indication of the parity of our league. TCU, Texas, Baylor… tough teams. And I advise not falling asleep on KSU, WV, ISU… actually anyone!
-
I hate to be one of those fans that constantly complains about officials… but… you are correct!
-
I think the Big 12 may even become a tougher league.
I loveeeeee bringing Sampson (Houston) into our league. And I have a feeling we will be adding the Zags. The other additions are solid, too.
UT and OU made a difference in football… not so much in basketball. Eventually… our league will be represented across America, making it that much stronger for recruits. Texas is a monster state for basketball recruiting and I am happy to trade Texas for Houston.
I can’t wait to watch UT argue for power in the SEC. They just traded $ for irrelevance!
-
@drgnslayr I love being one of those fans who constantly complains about the officials. I wear that badge proudly, the watchdog of officiating, the critics critic, the law and order of officials.
I’ll say this, although we’ve been complaining, seeing @Jethro and his foul discrepancy since Dec 1 and everything, I think it’s a statistic that lends some credibility to the zebras. Because of course the narrative is there that KU gets the calls, but there’s data disproving that.
-
I really think we’re cream of the crop this year. I keep saying 14-4 is our floor.
-
If you want some entertainment and you’re a twitter user just go to Twitter and type Jon Scheyer.
-
Duke gets the calls, not us. There is no “blue blood whistle” which I have read on several sports sites. Just ask Indiana. They even have fans that swear they aren’t a blue blood program any longer because of the bad whistles.
I think Duke got the calls because K is the best coach of all times concerning nagging refs. I guarantee refs don’t like hearing him nag. It makes a difference.
No way Scheyer will ever get to that level. He’s like the “Home Alone” kid who grew up and screams a lot now. He feels like he is entitled… it has been bred into him… maybe this is why -
Read carefully… 2009!
I’m not a Scheyer fan… but at least I give him thumbs up back in 2005, when he dissed Bruce Weber at UI. Heck… he was even coached by Bruce’s brother and he still dissed him for Duke! lol
-
To show you what a grind this league is gonna be this year I just heard - - - -6 out of the first 10 games that have been played , they were ONE possession games.
Also you realize that FORUR teams lost home games - -Visitors stole the game on the road. - - KU - - Iowa State - - K/ State-- TCU all won on the road, you HAVE GOT to protect home turf if you wanna win this league
-
Watching Fran McCafferty blow up again- another T. No wonder his son wanted to get away from that.
-
@Jethro What do you mean he wanted to get away from that?
-
Fran blows up again in last minute of a 2 point game. Fran was over by the Indiana bench yelling at Woodson. His son has to be restrained by his own teammates. Ref signals Technical and then takes it away. How can you retract a tech?
-
This clip shows the T, and both McCaffery’s having to be restrained. Then mysteriously there’s no T assessed. This is really bad officiating. Indiana fans are pissed. https://twitter.com/ZachOsterman/status/1611218329770786816?s=20&t=nCVgthsOHbptncYMRRu8Jg
-
From another tweet: Mike Woodson on the incident with Fran McCaffrey coming over towards the #iubb bench late in the game: “That’s bullshit. He should’ve been thrown out of the goddamn game.”
-
@wissox his kid left the game for awhile to deal with anxiety problems
-
@Crimsonorblue22 I realize that. I really don’t know what Jethro meant.
-
@wissox crazy!
-
@wissox oh!
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Part of my anger is because I really dislike Iowa, but watching the refs just let Fran cool down and withdrawing the T they’d called after he crossed half court yelling at the Indiana bench was just egregious. It probably cost Indiana the game. Which means a T should have cost Iowa another game. Fran has done that twice in his career. I’d be in the AD’s office tomorrow if I was an Iowa fan demanding he fire the fool.
-
I’m definitely more vocal about the refs. Complain, Criticize, whatever you want to call it, I’m calling it like I see it especially when they yield so much influence on a game.
Bigger picture issue is that officiating is not improving. I understand it’s a difficult job. It seems to be the one area of the game that is constantly not performing at a consistent level & the reputation they have with fans accross the country only gets worse. The Iowa/Indiana Coach situation is a good example again from last night. I’d have less to gripe about if they just made the easy layup calls correctly.

What do I mean? His dad is a nut.

McCaffrey is such a small little man. I mean really, yelling at the opposing coach during a game? What an imbecile

@KirkIsMyHinrich i believe their offense is called “the scheyer shuffle”

Boy Brad Underwood is losing it at Illinois. They had yet another meltdown at Northwestern the other night giving up a 22-2 run to seal their fate. Today a 5 star freshman Skyy Clarke announced he’s leaving the team “for personal reasons”. Obviously I have no clue why he did this but his early PT was lagging behind other freshmen in their highly regarded recruiting class so people are speculating of course that it had something to it.
After their impressive win over Texas they have played 3 games against power conference schools and lost all three while winning several tuneup games which didn’t serve their purpose apparently.
-
Sky Clark stated that him leaving Illinois had nothing to do with Basketball. - But DID have to do with pyritizing & Family.
Said he was stepping away from basketball for awhile
