Yep it was and FSU was the presumed fav but a Visit to sparty land made the difference. I haven’t watched him lately but Earlier in the season I thought he was a dude. Can be erratic with shot selection but man imagine self could mold him into something

Wynston Tabbs of Boston College is transferring. Recently suspended for the rest of the season, BC having a tough year after recently firing their coach. Tabbs was the 2nd leading scorer, missed last year due to knee injury. Imagine he’s not an option for KU but for others…

Watched a podcast talking about Johnson’s departure. It’s not a good look when you leave before the season is over.
Capel apparently has been frustrated with him, Johnson did avg 3 fouls a game as their starting PG… Seemed to have an issue staying on the court. Fouled out in 3 games, had 4 fouls in 5 other games.
Seems like this is a mutual thing. Tread carefully here but man he’d have a chance at a fresh start and a chance to really help a blue blood team.

From what I remember seeing him on TV and then watching videos seems like a more athletic Garrett, functional perimeter shot, better vision. Concerning were the fouls/turnovers and taking bad shots. His shooting splits are basically the same as Marcus. We’ll see where it goes

Yeah, he’s finishing his master’s this year. He’ll probably work some, take like one class, and play ball if in fact he comes back.

Read that Johnson was called out by Capel for the amount of technicals he has gotten in his career. Capel benched him and now he has transferred. Yikers

Most pitt fans look back at that era as a one off that will never return due to the administration and booster support lacking in the program. Maybe a different coach and approach could work but seems like they are bottom of the acc now for the foreseeable future

They have fan support of a Top 5-6 ACC team from that era so your right, if you build it they will come. However building it has been a major issue. Capel had some momentum but its stalled in a major way and looks like its headed even further down. Their recruiting/transfer ability has been abysmal with Capel known as the bag guy when he was at Duke

So far there isn’t a “must go after” one that’s hit. Some have pleaded for the Pittsburgh PG Johnson but he has his issues. The next month will be fun to watch how many hit the portal.

If we don’t go after Johnson, I’m worried a better option may not come.
At the same time - you have to ask the question if he is really that much more of a positive on the court than just playing Harris. If you don’t think he is much of an upgrade (stats with Johnson are definitely misleading) than I get why we aren’t pressing hard.
I want Johnson though. He is a high level athlete and I think Bill could probably get more out of him than Capel. Turnovers and shot selection are an issue, but we just do not have anyone on our roster that can go fetch a bucket the way Johnson can. He is a playmaker on the floor.
At the same time, the staff probably pays good money to have sources with ears to the ground about who they think ends up shaking loose. They may have a target in mind already.

I’d be a taker if we had no other options. We’ll have Harris back and I like him, but we need another guy also who can and will take shots.
