by taking all these transfers i think Self is telling Harris he needs to transfer. He might be telling Braun the same thing. you can’t fill a 13 man roster with 13 kids who all think and probably are good enough to play D1 bball. in the past most programs would give scholarships to 2-3 kids who they knew were more “glue” and “program” type kids who would tolerate sitting on the bench. Self is not giving scholarships to any kids like that. the last guy on the KU bench could be a starter at many P5 programs. this is going to be worse than the NBA. the top college programs are going to have different players every year.
Braun Is not going to transfer He’s a Kansas kid hes not going nowhere

I don’t agree with this take at all. Three of four transfers Self brought in are one year players to fill in the gaps on the roster until the freshmen are ready next season.
It’s not hard at all to see how Self envisions this roster developing long term with an eventual starting line up a couple of years from now consisting of some combination of Harris, Pettiford, and Cuffe in the back court and some combination of Clemence, Curry, and Adams in the front court with Clemence and Adams after Curry moves on. The only spot Self is missing in the long term on this roster is a wing which has already been addressed in the 2022 class with Gradey Dick.
Bill Self is chasing a national title this season before the roster takes a step back next season and this team as constructed appears talented enough to do so as KU should have 6 upper classmen in the rotation next season including 4 seniors. Self turned one the least experienced rosters last season into one of the most experienced this season.

@JAYHAWKFAN214 I don’t want him to, but I’m not so sure. Doesn’t his brother play at Mizzou? I think he’s still there, right? And didn’t one of his parents go there too? I’m a Braun fan and don’t him to go anywhere, just saying.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 don’t agree with all of what you posted, but do most of it.

@Marco transferred

I’m right there with you on that. I don’t want Braun going anywhere either. - -Seemed like he had decent Fr year - -struggled last yr , lost confidence in his shot. - -I can’t count how many times he turned down wide open 3’s towards the end he wasn’t even looking for his shot at al. I look for him to rebound decently and play well. I think probably like others sem to think - -he will be coming off the bench , just hope he can accept his role and not get down on him self, but just don’t want him to transfer out.
However now with this transfer portol thing and making things so easy, gonna be a lot of transfers yr after yr. Just hoping he isn’t one of them.

The transfer market will not be like this every year because players can only transfer once without having to sit out. All of these kids transferring this year can’t do it again unless it’s as a grad transfer without sitting out. Expect the transfer rate to be closer to 1,000 most years going forward.

The cycle will still continue. Understand that the kids that transfer However you have a whole new group of 1st time transfers just like this year this year can’t do it again without sitting out. This whole transfer portol thing is just insane

A 1,000 kids is a lot more than pre pandemic transfer rates which was about 6-700 kids per. We will not see 1,600 kids every year. Any time you see a major rule change such as this, there will always a spike of people taking advantage immediately and numbers will level off going forward.

@Crimsonorblue22 Who?
-
@Marco Christians Braun’s brother, Parker.
-
Kevin Samuel from TCU in the portal. If a spot comes open, would take.

That would help our back-up 5 spot tremendously.
That said, I believe the roster is just about set based on what I’ve been hearing. Like I mentioned in another thread I would expect some small ball.

Boom … I expect alot of small ball too. That being said then, how many minutes do you think Dave will get?
-
As many as he can play, he is our most important player because the options behind him are not nearly as good.

Silvio DeSousa put his name into the transfer portal today. He’ll be a grad transfer wherever he ends up, if anywhere. His trial is supposed to start in early August.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 Wow… Good luck there, huh?
-
I wish Silvio well. People make big mistakes. Still young. Can grow up.
-
Bryson Williams, that dude from UTEP that lit us up at the end of the season has transferred to Texas Tech. Guess he really wanted to play against us again. SMH
-
Texas still bag dropping landing the best transfer left on the market in forward Tre Mitchell.
-
Texas is going to be a force now.

Hard to be mad not landing him when we dropped bags for Remy and Yesufu.

no matter how much money they drop - - gonna take time to get those fans committed to Basketball. Gonna have to be proven for a couple of years That arena is always about half full for basketball unless a really special occasion. they have to be proven they have something to get excited about - - - Football still and will run rampid for sometime

I would consider Chris Beard a top 10 coach and said as soon as he was hired that Texas would return to their early to mid 2000’s form when they were a consistent top 10 team and KU-Texas games were appointment viewing.
Nike is going to begin funneling a lot of elite level talent to Austin because of Beard and the UT brand. Kansas, Baylor, and Texas will all be top tier programs and make each other better prepared for runs in March/April.
-
@BShark I’m sure that Beard took that job with the understanding he would be give the “resources” to win.
-
@jayballer67 that Beard is going to make them a national force, maybe not this year but soon, there is no doubt. That dude can flat out coach.

Agree , however with Texas being that " FOOTBALL school " that Texas is like you say the fans are Football fans, it’s going to take consistency of at least 3-4 years of hard core beat down Ball for they become 100 % totally convinced. It’s hard for Football Schools traditionally Football it’s hard to convince them that they can also have a really good Basketball. After 3-4 yrs then ya the place will fill to capicity until then i’s going to be a slow trend - -Be Careful don’t stumble , you stumble watch how fast they fly right back out. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
@jayballer67 No doubt, a football school. But he’ll have them in the tournament this year, and he’ll all but own Texas high school basketball talent, which is another reason why he poached Snacks who has been recruiting Texas pretty well. And unlike some, I realize that Texas does have players. Is it Cali, New York, Illinois or Florida? No, but there is talent there. And he’ll get out of state talent too. Look at what he did at Texas Tech.

Oh I agree Texas is loaded with talent , and I’m not saying he won’t bring them to a different level - -BUT it going to take time and it’s going to take convincing not just 1 year or 2 years.
Also can’t go quite as far as you on him owning the state of Texas for recruiting - -True other blue bloods well wait Ain’t no way I’m going to call Texas a blue blood because of Beard BUT True blue bloods will still if the talent is ther DUKE - -KENTUCKY - - -KU- - NORTH CAROLINA - GONZAGA - - MICHIGAN STATE - they still coming and they will STILL get their fair share of that Texas Talent , not willing to go there and say he will OWN the Texas Talent sorry - -these other blue bloods have gotten themselves established there to solid for that to happen
-
@jayballer67 no, he won’t get them all, too many. But look at what Sampson has done at Houston.

Wow - -that’s news I can’t remember where he signed for sure, but I think we were in on him at the start a little weren’t we? - -All I knew was I thought he would be a really big pick up. - Probably nothing out of this but we could dream lol

We should now fairly soon here we stand with our 3 Wilson - - -Martin - -And Och - -Still think we get two out of the three back
-
For sure looks like KU isn’t the only Big 12 team active with this transfer thing this off Season. Our old friend down at TCU - - Jamie been quite active.
TCU will have a total of NINE new players , 8 - - from Transfers & a signing.
Jamie pick up 2 from Texas A & m. , Peavy from Texas Tech transferred there , Damion Baugh from Memphis transferred there , & Jakobe Coles from Butler - -A kid from Vanderbilt. - -Then they signed it said one of the top Juco Big men - -Souleymone , Doumbet - -Jamie tryint to get mean lol - a couple of nice additions though fro real

This would be nice, although a lot of people seem to think that Cockburn will follow Ron Coleman and Orlando Antigua to Kentucky.
-
Kofi Cockburn is better than Dave, but going all out to bring him in also risks destroying team chemistry by alienating one of the leaders of the team.
If Ochai doesn’t come back, a game ready, back up 4 is probably the need unless the staff thinks Zach Clemence is ready to play 10-15 minutes per game out of the gate.

Agree. It would also run the risk of hurting relationships with Team Loaded and Oak Hill, which you don’t want of course.
