It takes more time for a defense to become top notch than offense does.

With KU’s length, mixing some zone would help a lot with keeping the ball out of the paint some.

Players on the court also can’t hear what a coach says with a mask up so coaches need to pull it down to call plays or get a refs attention.

With the artificial crowd noise being pumped in, it’s a lot more difficult than you would think to hear, especially with the type of mask Self has on. I do coach basketball in empty gyms and still have to pull my mask down so my players can hear a play call.
I’ve even had to pull my mask down in practice so my players could instructions for a drill because my mask was muting my voice more than I thought and I’m one of the loudest teachers on my campus.

What adjustment is there to make? I can’t yell louder because I’m already yelling during a game near the top of my volume level. I’m not buying a cheaper mask that does nothing. I pull my mask down for a couple of seconds while I’m calling a play out and pull it back up when I’m done.
Quite frankly, if I’m catching Covid at my school, it’s not going to be from basketball, it’s going to be from one of my overcrowded in person classes that I don’t have enough room to properly social distance my students.
