West Virginia feels disrespected because KU is #1.

  • Read the comments from Devin Williams about KU being #1 and how he views it as disrespect that his team isn’t ranked higher.

“(Kansas) is No. 1. But what does that mean? What if we were put in the Top 10 when we first started? Where would we be? There’s nothing we can do about that number they got,”

“We had to put ourselves in the Top 25,” Williams added. “At the end of the day, we should feel disrespected, because we’re just as good as anybody in the country — starting five to bench. We can play with anybody in the country.”

Maybe if you had beaten Virginia in the only game you’ve played this year against a ranked team, maybe you’d have a point here.

Maybe if you stopped worrying about your ranking and worried more about trying to win the Big 12 that the media might take notice.

They could play their Super Bowl game tomorrow and knock off the Jay-hawks. It’s likely this will be a really hard game for us to win, I think most of us agree there. But I didn’t understand what he was trying to prove with those comments. Really, KU doesn’t deserve it’s ranking just because we started higher than them. I hope our guys see the comments and put a hurting on them tomm.

  • @BeddieKU23 He mighta been trying to fire up his own guys, and by saying it publicly, trying to also fire up the hometown crowd to “enhance” their home-court advantage just for KU.

But he also likely got the KU program’s attention with his comments…

He could say the same thing about OU.

I’d borrow a choice word from the BillSelfRepertoire, and call WVU’s schedule SOFT!

  • Should be a grinder: Huggo-Muggo pressure vs Self’s “multiple ball handlers”. (Can KU beat the press for easy buckets, and crack those WVU nuts wide-open?)

That WVU player about to find out we are NOT the same team as last year! That WVU player about to end up on a Wayne Selden or Chieck Diallo dunk poster!

That WVU player about to find out what a REAL, legitimate #1 ranked team looks and plays like…

  • @ralster don’t forget wv has a bounty on Self!

  • Here is their surefire recipe for ranking higher in preseason:

Over the next 100 years, develop several Final Four teams and take home the gold 4 or 5 times.

Set the current record for consecutive invitations to the Big Dance.

Set the current record for consecutive Big 12 conferene championships.

In the process, put truckloads of players in the NBA.

When you get that accomplished, we will stand beside you during your complaint of not being ranked high enough.

  • He’s respecting us by saying he feels disrespected by us. We’re in his head. We’re who he’s thinking about. He knows none of those other teams have won anything in the last 15 years so he’s got to talk about us.

Go ahead Williams, play a road game before 12/30. Play a decent schedule. Then you can feel disrespected.

And by the way, thanks for the bulletin board material to fire us up for tomorrow night!

  • Going to be a tough game regardless.

    Musings from Seth Davis:

Five games I’m psyched to see this week

Kansas at West Virginia, Tuesday, 6 p.m., ESPN2

The Mountaineers are one of the few teams in the country that can match Kansas in terms of speed and depth. Theoretically, the Jayhawks, who start two point guards in Frank Mason and Devonte’ Graham, should be well equipped to handle “Press” Virginia. But unless you think the Jayhawks are going undefeated in the Big 12, you almost have to pick them to lose this one. West Virginia is very tough to beat in Morgantown, and you know the joint will be jumpin’.

West Virginia 90, Kansas 87 (OT)

    • Let’s stop the kvetching about Cheick Diallo before it gathers any more steam. The 6’9" freshman forward played a total of eight minutes in Kansas’d wins over Oklahoma and Texas Tech last week. Diallo is a good athlete with a great basketball body, but he was always considered raw offensively. Besides, the Jayhawaks have two upperclassmen big men in Jamari Traylor and Landen Lucas who are much more ready to help their team win. Diallo is not going to play much this season, and if he’s even smart about it, he is not going to try to enter the NBA draft. Rather, he is going to stay in Lawrence and develop his game with one of the best coaches in the history of the sport. When he’s ready to play, Bill Self will play him. Period.

  • Is everybody here too politically correct to state the obvious? Devin William’s comments are plain dumb… 😃

  • @RockChalkinTexas

Seth Davis can’t even get it right either about Diallo.

Diallo isn’t seeing the court because of his defense and his lack of understanding/chemistry within the KU system.

    @JayHawkFanToo

The comments made me mad more than anything. But yes they were dumb and not well thought out.

  • @BeddieKU23 Thats what I thought when I read that. I thought to my self, " really dude, your gonna complain about that?" Better focus on the game cuz I know KU will come ready to play a big boy game.

In all honesty, I will not be surprised if KU loses in a tight game tomorrow. But, flip a coin and I wouldnt be surprised if they win a tight one too.

  • West Virginia plays us tomorrow and then has to travel to OU on Saturday.

BTW, we are No. 1 in both AP and Coaches Poll plus Top 25 and One, so there Devin Williams. You guys did NOT make it into the Top 10.

  • @RockChalkinTexas They made the Top 10 in the Coaches poll. Devin made the top 10 in the thug poll, btw.

  • I apologize in advance if KU loses to WVU. I’ve got a business meeting in the little App-hole on gameday. Last time I sat foot in Man-crappin’ was before Acie Law IV beat KU at home in front of my own two eyes. Terrible game to go to.

I apologize now. Maybe you can counter my bad mojo?!?

    🙂

  • @KUSTEVE I was looking at AP. Coaches ain’t nothing. 🙂

  • @JayHawkFanToo agreed. Huggins is dum enough to he probably is backing Williams statement, I think he is just trying to fire their fans up that much more. What he doesn’t realize or just to thick to get it is, you don’t think this may get mentioned before the game in the KU locker room? maybe a whole lot not made but I’m sure to some degree it will be thrown out. Why would you want to throw more ambition to the already nu ! ranked team in the nation. Don’t get me wrong West Virginia is a quality team, going to be a tough game. All road games are very tough in the big 12. This was evidenced when the rankings came out this afternoon, Oklahoma didn’t drop in the AP and only dropped form # 1 to # 2 in the Coaches poll, which I have no problem with at all. It just goes to show people realize or starting to realize how hard it is to win in the big 12, especially on the road. NOT a very bright move on his part. ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @RockChalkinTexas careful about your words on that statement, ummmm I think actually the Coaches might JUST MAYBE might just a little more about these schools programs/players then a associated press of sports writes does. These Coaches works with these players everyday, they judge talent better everyday, they are around the players everyday, these coaches TRULY know these players, I would have to take a Coaches words, and or reasoning about rankings much more over then a bunch of SPORTS WRITERS. to say the Coaches poll isn’t anything? are you serious? REALLY? na I know that’s not a serious statement. ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @dylans Cancel the meeting.

    Or quit your job.

  • @dylans I got this!!💙🏀❤

  • I certainly hope they don’t feel disrespected after tomorrow night.

I hope they feel humiliated !!

  • @BeddieKU23

WVU needs to shut up and make shots.

At least all we have to do is make shots.

  • @nuleafjhawk

I hope they feel like Ned Beatty in Deliverance.

    Cue the banjo.

  • @jaybate-1.0 said:

Cue the banjo. In this instance, pretty sure they’ll feel violated!

  • @jayballer54 Coaches spot watch other programs…they are watching game film of their immediate and soon to be opponents. They mail it in at best. At worst they play to what benefits them the most.

Case in point, look at how MU coaches voted in the football polls, when MU was on it’s way out the B12 door and setting up house with the SEC>

  • @nuleafjhawk

If they are dumb enough to feel disrespected now, then they will be dumb enough tomorrow to not feel humiliated, no matter how bad the score or the bad play to get to the score.

But seriously… UVW or VWU or VFW… they are a quality team. If you remove most of the curse words used by Huggy Bear you can see through to the real coach, who is actually an outstanding coach! That still doesn’t make them a Top 10 team.

Winning the Big 12 regular season title would probably give West Virginia a Top 10 rating. Beating us once on their home court? Na…

  • Hey… let’s go small this game.

Let’s play… Frank, Devonte, Wayne, BG, Svi, Perry… Just leave all our 5s out for a game. Go with our best ball handlers.

Put Perry on the spot to own the boards. He is a friggin’ senior. Self should be able to put him in tough situations and expect good results.

Let’s give the Mountaineers a taste of their own medicine. Let’s run run run… press press press… push transition offense and play great transition defense. Let’s make it a game I want to see… pure X-axis basketball!

Let’s see if we can push WV into a hurry up offense.

Ha… I’d love to see what happens.

  • @RockChalkinTexas great post!

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Hmm, “bounty on Self” by Huggy? I wonder if his ‘hired gun’ is that davy-crocket-furrball-with-a-musket? Well, I’m bettin on Self, who hails from PistolPete land–> most Cowboys packed .45LongColt, and Billy Self is a straight shooter…

So my guess is Wednesday, Self will be back in his office in Lawrence hanging up a “Wanted” poster of himself in a trophy frame (that he snagged in Morgantown…).

  • @ralster I think it’s 25,000

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Yes, I recall reading about the $25k bonus as well somewhere…

  • @dylans The mere fact that you have alerted us to this situational bad karma may neutralize the bad juju and give us the chance we need in Morgantown… The good guys have to show up ready to battle for this one.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Yeah, and the guy in charge of Diallo’s NCAA clearing (Oliver Luck) wrote the $25K bonus into Huggy’s contract (for beating KU) while he was AD at WVU. Sounds inpartial to me…

  • @dylans I expect him to schedule Higgins to participate in the game tonight!

  • @ralster

“Self will be back in his office in Lawrence hanging up a “Wanted” poster of himself in a trophy frame (that he snagged in Morgantown…).”

It will look great in the locker room toilet!

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Higgins participates…bad Luck! Higgins not participating…good Luck! I guess we’ll see how Lucky we are tonight!
