Got a serious question

  • Now I know some, but not all, but some of you will think I’m crazy, and no chance BUT I wanna know how many think there is a legit shot at Cheick returning for a Sophomore year next year? I think there is a very legit chance,I just don’t see his stock rising much right now, if anything it’s going to drop some, he just need some development and that comes with returning next year, there is no doubt he will still see playing time this year BUT I think next year if he returns he is going to get a good full year of game experience, bulk up a little, one more time just very raw, and the way things are turning out at the 5 unless he turns it on unbelievably , it’s in his best interest to return for another year. Not saying it WILL HAPPEN, but then again very legit chance that he will. what ya think? ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • At this point I see it as very likely. Cheick said before coming to KU that the max he planned to spend in Lawrence was 2 years. To me that means he has already planned on it, if the reason why is because he is raw and playing on a loaded and successful team of veterans.

  • @jayballer54 As others on this site have pointed out, the NBA drafts on potential as much as past production, and I believe Cheik is slotted just outside the lottery at the moment. Id say the chances are a coin flip right now. If Cheick is content going late in the first round, he’s as good as gone. If he is dead set on being a lotto pick, he stays.

Of course this all changes if he shows marked improvement from now until the end of the season.

  • If Tidiane Drame really has Diallo’s best interests in mind, he will advise Diallo to return next year.

  • If he is a projected lotto pick my bet is that he leaves. We could be stacked next year if everyone who is still eligible came back though.

  • I have been scouring for nba mock drafts lately to answer the same question!

    http://www.nbadraft.net/2016mock_draft

This is the most up to date one I could find and it doesn’t even have Diallo or Brag on it!! This team could win it all this year and actually be BETTER next season. A Diallo with a year of practice. Bragg with a year of bulking up. Greene a year removed from surgery. Svi another year with more confidence. An entire offseason for the guy who could be the biggest surprise next season in Vick. And more than likely a top 25 big man recruit! I have never been a Jamari or Landen fan until this season, but dammit keep playing well and keep the young guys off of the floor! I’m starting to feel a little bit of a Florida b2b vibe…

Most importantly though, that mock draft does show what I had hoped. That people are starting to notice Wayne. He will continue to rise up draft boards if he continues to shoot so consistently. And, last night he showed that he really can get into the lane when he wants to. He would probably be the no brainer player of the year in the big XII if Buddy wasn’t such a freak of nature.

  • @RockkChalkk was listening to a local radio station today and can’t really remember who it was, but the question was raised who he thought would leave early from Ku and his answer was- - - - - -Wayne Seldon. ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @Kcmatt7 Ya I also feel if Wayne stays on the level he is right now, he is gone, got an N.B.A. body, built solid ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer54 den, den, den, as in Wayne Selden

  • @brooksmd oooops my bad, I’ll have to use age as my excuse. ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer54 Hells to the yeah…Diallo definitely comes back. Unless he has a monster third half of the season, which isn’t looking to good at this point in time. He’s a smart kid and the NBA hype isn’t getting to him. He wants to learn too. He knows Bill Self is a good coach to get him into the promised land. If he stays, KU will win a NC. He can increase his stock and resume. Diallo reminds me a lot of Embiid’s raw talent that was polished into something special.

  • @Kcmatt7 Bragg will definitely return. He’s so green and needs a lot of work. He’s a three year project. Diallo is a two year project.

  • @jayballer54 Yeah…if Selden continues this level of play, he’s gone. Which is fine because it’s his junior year and he’s improved. He’s pretty much ready. I hope he continues to have a strong year and enters the draft even stronger.

  • @truehawk93 do you know something we don’t-nba isn’t in his head?

  • @Crimsonorblue22 The problem is, Diallo could end the season with a few good games that shows his ability…and as mentioned above, the NBA will draft him in the first round on potential. Just because he would benefit from staying does not mean that he will.

  • @Hawk8086 I figured he’d be gone, was wondering if @truehawk93 knew more.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Diallo has stated that he doesn’t know what he will do next year, but that he only plans to be in college for 2 years.

  • At this point, Cheick is a 2AD.

The question now is: will Cheick go back to giving Self what he wants, or is he going to continue shooting 15-18 ft Js outside the flow of the offense, skip learning what he could and jump and maybe not get drafted, or go low?

The 6 minutes was a trial period and Cheick observed the rules and was set down because of the bodies Self knew would be flying the second half. Self protected a guy from blue meanies. He protected Bragg, too. He probably was protecting Hunter, too. Landen and Jam, were really the only guys ready for that scale of war. That was a mature second ranked team taking no prisoners.

That was a Nike team that maybe team swoosh’ s best shot at denying Self his 12th ring and taking him out of a ring run!

Self was right to hunker down, win it inside the hard way, and let the only two guys he’s got that have been in a grinder go at it.

  • @jaybate-1.0 I saw improvement.

  • @jaybate-1.0 I think you might be right JB. Bragg and Diallo are not ready for this level of play, and may not be this year. I do not think that Self sat Hunter because he was protecting him. Most likely because Jamari and Landen are a little tougher inside and we needed rebounding, though I think Hunter would have been fine. Again, Self preferred Landen in this situation, where Hunter might be better in another.

  • @Crimsonorblue22

    In Cheick?

  • Agreed. Let’s all pray they don’t make mistakes, but seek wisdom before blinded by $$$ and promises from their reps. I’d like to see them succeed in life, which they can achieve by getting more mature in collegiate level.

  • @pa_grape So lets just play it out. So say if they both return, then Bragg would probably take Perry’s spot and Cheick would team up at the 5 with the guy the transfer that is sitting out and had the operation? Because now I’m getting kind of a sick feeling we NOT SIGNING A BIG this year, which sucks, I’m not getting such a good read on Bolden now, fricken Kentucky coming around, I get so sick of them just playing non-chalent and then just being able to get involved really late and this kids jumping at the opportunity to play there. Love how they got their heads handed to them last night by L.S.U. I am just getting a feel that Azuibke & Bolden signing elsewhere, and that’s the only 2 bigs left we were recruiting. ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jaybate-1.0

Hunter works best within 6 feet of the basket and when he ventures further out he is often caught trying to block a shot and fouling or out of position. OU scored 36 out of 106 point in the paint…most of the damage came from outside the paint which made Mickelson ineffective. Jamari is a much better option when you need to extend the defense out…perfect situation to play Jamari and he did play his heart out and had some timely baskets and momentum changing blocks. IMHO, perfect use of Jamari’s skills by Coach Self.

  • @JayHawkFanToo

Man, you belted that one out of the park!

  • @jayballer54 - Azubuike reminds me of UT’s Ridley. I’d rather we pick Josh J. He’s coming to town this 22nd, last i heard. They said it’ll b his 2nd visit to KU. I didn’t recall he came already.
