McCollum Hall implosion

http://www.kualumni.org/mccollum/?utm_source=member&utm_medium=email2&utm_vampaign=mccollum _ Got up early to watch it live this morning. As a former dorm resident (not McCollum), it’s a bit sad to to see these older buildings go down…
-
@nwhawkfan It is certainly sad, I spent two years and have wonderful memories living in the dorm. Its a pity but I can understand the rationale.
-
@AsadZ I had a couple of friends who lived there. One summer I worked in the cafeteria kitchen when they were feeding the high school kids who were on campus for summer camps.
F0rtunately they saved my old dorm, J.R. Pearson Hall, and turned it into the Education department building. When I visited there last spring I stopped by my old top-floor room at JRP; it’s now a supply room. Still has a great view of Potter Lake, the stadium, the “golden valley,” and all points north and east.

Are we sure it wasn’t a delayed effect from 9-11…like WTC VII?
Some kind of quantum entanglement.

You’re on to something here!!! Clearly W. Planned this, also and it just took 14 years to come down…
-
My folks went to KU from 60-63 so were just before it was built in '65. Mom said there were quite a few suicides over the years? Doubt if that received much publicity?
-
Lived there in 2008-09. Opposite side of the wall my bed was on were the toilets. Thursday-Saturday nights sucked when I didn’t go out because I was usually very aware of when someone had too much to drink or had digestive issues. That part absolutely sucked. Dating a female RA on the floor was pretty nice because my room was where the alcohol was and was never reported or confiscated because that would’ve been taking her own alcohol as well.

@Texas-Hawk-10 LOL

Any word on what will replace it? The dorms were kind of a modernist, worker-housing, sculpture complex on the western horizon. They worked visually, for better, or worse, as a set.

I am sensing a new mission for the B.I.A.

@Lulufulu I like your thinking!
@jaybate-1.0 In the video they said it’s going to be a parking lot. However, we could put a secret underground lair for the BIA kinda like they did at DIA?
