Brandon Ingram Decision
-
I’ve never been too worried about Diallo. I had a strong indication that he was coming to KU when Cliff jumped.
I’m following Ingram more so than Diallo. I mentioned yesterday through some interesting developments that Ingram was choosing KU:
-
He would’ve chosen UNC in the Fall.
-
If you’re going to stay home, why wait so long to announce? If your leaning Dook, then choose already. But instead, Dook visits once and then 2-3 days later are back? It’s odd to say the least. If you have a player why return for such a quick back to back visit?
-
He’s friends with Bragg. This is my biggest reason for him picking KU. I really think Bragg has worked hard and got him fairly early. But Ingram seems to respect his in-state coaches and decides to give them a chance.
-
Green is out for a while and we need instant results at the 3. Svi won’t be quite ready, but will definitely have a good season.
-
I don’t exactly know what Self discussed with Ingram, but something tells me maybe a few past players were featured in the pitch to Ingram: Brandon…Rush? or a Ben McLemore? All a bit smaller, but very comparable and provides KU with some competitive ammunition against Rat Face and his NC season.
-
-
This actually benefits Ingram because NBA scouts will have the university games to scout him and its more national exposure.

Looking Good

RT @tonybruton: Brandon Ingram moved all the way up to 3rd in the latest ESPN 2015 ranking.
-
@Statmachine I doubt his thinking is quite that strategic, but he definitely has increased his national exposure. I think he’s torn between staying in N Carolina and going where he belongs. He belongs at KU, but his heart is in N Carolina. I mentioned before that if he chooses a Carolina school, he will lose a lot of fellow Carolina folks from his fanbase. However, it may seem hokie, but if he chooses KU, it’s a much better situation. He makes a fair pick by not picking one Carolina school over another and he gets to go where he has a good friend.
He’s in the same recruiting boat as Ellis. Remember, Ellis had KU, KState, and WSU all three recruiting him. Obviously he chose KU, and hasn’t had much of a backlash. But Ingram seems really torn with Carolina. I kinda feel for him to choose another Carolina school at this point.
Ingram is simply torn between staying home with Dook or leaving out of state to KU. REMEMBER: he said that staying home was NOT a big deal. I really don’t think UNC or NCSt is much of an option right now. I still think by choosing Dook he feels bad for the other two Carolina schools. So his best choice is KU.
All I know if he does choose KU, he needs Hudy more than anything. I think Hudy needs to get his weight program ready…hehe
-
@truehawk93 gotta think Hudy would be big(skinny)!
-
@drgnslayr How about we go with “BAD BALL.” Kansas should be branded as the team that plays BAD BALL and that this is the wave of the future. Tell all the recruits (and encourage other recruiters to tell them) that Bill Self will make you play BAD BALL! The top tier recruits will beat a path to our doorstep–Bank on it!
-
Could it be that Diallo became instant friends with Perry when he visited KU and thus became a Twitter/FB friend and there’s not much more to read into it than that?
-
@wissoxfan83 I think the speculation is that he followed Perry ab 1 hour after posting the picture w all the schools above him, not when he met Perry from when he visited KU.
-
I can see it now.
We hire Dennis Rodman as an assistant coach. Surely we can find a dozen players out there who care more about defense than offense.
Did the bio on Rodman. He attended Cooke County CC… is that the penitentiary or school? 2x NBA Defensive Player of the Year, 7x All-Defensive First Team, 7x NBA Rebounding Champion, 2x NBA All-Star, 5x NBA Champion.
And to toughen up the troops every year we’ll go on an exhibition tour through North Korea. Give them a concept of how tough life can be.
I’m game for that over directly copying Calipari’s recruiting philosophy.
-
I am now Diallos friend on FB and I guess you all could be too. If you’re interested in being FB friends with Diallo then send him a friend request. Chances are he will add you.
-
Not to be a negator on Bad Ball, but how about we run a more diverse offense and actually vary our screening patterns and our personnel placement? And perhaps … just perhaps … work a touch harder to get those three ball looks? These are not complex adjustments. Our current offense can easily be adjusted to make it more dynamic.
Don’t be confused, the offense we ran late with four out/one in (the weave) late was not an “offense” that you can rely on. It was a simplistic stop gap. One that you could teach a bunch of 7th graders in a few practice sessions. It has its place, to use as a change up … and of course, to use until it is stopped. But it’s not anything we want to rely on.

I still can’t get out of my mind the FT discrepancy in 1986 when we played puke in the final four.
I was 14 during our Final Four run that year and THAT was the game that cemented the knowledge that I had become a die-hard Jayhawk fan and there was no turning back.
I can recall the flat top hair cuts, the red jerseys, lots of tears and lots cursing at the refs, the TV and the universe for the injustices I witnessed in that game. I remember being so incensed after the final buzzer sounded I stormed upstairs to my room only to pause in the hallway and put my heel through the wall in a fit of rage. (My dad subsequently put his foot through my posterior for such ridiculous behavior).
It was also the moment my hatred for all things Duke bubbled up to the surface. Not even Missouri can surpass the amount of disdain I have for that team from Durham. Duke is far and away my most despised team in college basketball and it’s not close. The fact that they still seem to get all the calls, get all the bounces to go their way and lead an all-around charmed existence chaps me to the core. It just never seems like they win on their own merit, even though they consistently pull in the talent to do so. Anytime Duke loses, it’s a banner day for me. I was pulling hard for your boys this season, but I guess even skill and experience are no match for serendipity.
C’est la vie.
-
@tis4tim I love this story, you are a true fan, I want to kick out your wall too! Thanks for sharing. When one of my boys was little he had a tshirt that said Duke was a dog.
-
@tis4tim my favorite team to hate always has been and always will be Mizzou.
Having said that, I’m also not a big fan of Coach Ratface and his evil minions. I hate them, but as much as it pains me, how do you not respect a guy with 5 National Championships?
I can take Duke winning, bad as it pains me, but if Mizzou ever made it to the Final Four - I’d probably never watch college ball again.
-
lol. great slogan! I hope your boy wore the shirt with the utmost pride and now has it framed.
The irony of my story? After college I lived in the Carolinas for 15 years and most of my good friends were Duke fans. Recently, my dentist suggested I get a bite guard to wear while sleeping because he thinks I grind my teeth at night. Frankly, I KNOW it’s from 15 years of gritting my teeth around those … “people”. I just don’t think he believes me.
-
@tis4tim I don’t think you hate them as much as you think!! I don’t have a single friend that is a Mizzou fan.
-
BREAKING NEWS!!! Diallo likes Emily Emy on his fb lol… Not too shabby
-
If Mizzou could ever win anything significant, I might dislike them more. As it stands, Duke not only wins, but over the years has put an end to our season more times than I’d like to acknowledge. Throw in the cheap shots, the free throw excesses, Archie Marshall’s career-ending injury, Christian Laettner, more Plumlee brothers than the Baldwin clan and any number of Duke players whose faces I’d like to put my heel through (Quin Snyder, Cherokee Parks, Danny Ferry, Jon Sheyer, Steve Wojciechowski, etc.) and it’s Duke in a landslide for me.
-
@tis4tim when I think of Duke I think of the word entitled. That’s how I think they feel. I always thought they looked alike too.
-
Kim K lookalike.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 That’s how most non KU fans feel about us. Arrogant, Blue-Bloods, Snobs.
Guess that’s what happens when you’re the second winningest (?) program in the history of the Universe. I scoff at all those other peon colleges…
-
Maybe this helps? Can you post this on his FB?
-
“when I think of Duke I think of the word entitled. That’s how I think they feel. I always thought they looked alike too.”
You are not alone.
Did you see the 30 for 30 “I hate Laettner!”?
It shows why everyone that doesn’t go to Duke hates them.
-
Looking Better! Do our recruits realize they get free trips to the KU Med Center Dermatology Clinic?!
-
“Not to be a negator on Bad Ball, but how about we run a more diverse offense and actually vary our screening patterns and our personnel placement? And perhaps … just perhaps … work a touch harder to get those three ball looks? These are not complex adjustments. Our current offense can easily be adjusted to make it more dynamic.”
So are you saying we should run a better offense so we don’t have to pressure our defense to keep our opponents below 50 ppg in order to win?
-
@drgnslayr I will probably get blocked for that but what the heck! I posted it to his wall…
-
All that’s on Ingram’s twitter is dook this and dook that. Doesn’t look good. He is not getting enough love from KU fans. I am starting to think he’s Dook bound. The only thing I can say is he IS following the entire KU team. But our fans really need to step it up!
-
@drgnslayr that wasn’t nice! They’re young men!
-
…and while we are at it, might as well add Raiders-like black unis?
-
Talk about Darnell Valentine-like thunder thighs, is she a weightlifter?..I guess you would have to be to lifts those huge whatchamacallits…
-
@JayHawkFanToo I work at Chevrolet and she is “Like a rock” or a brick shit house.
-
“But our fans really need to step it up!”
I tried to friend him but it says he has reached the maximum on FB.
-
So i’m doing a little reading between the lines here but I think Ingram told K in his first in-home visit that his team was looking a bit thin, especially at point, and was his reason for not committing there. K says let me see what I can do and lets meet again before you decide. Then K convinces a HS junior PG to reclassify and join the team and is hoping that will fix the problem.
What scares me is that Ingram said in the special on ESPNU tonight that the move does make a big difference. But for real, how often does a true freshmen run a team well at PG? Its very rare. Now Duke thinks they will have what should be a HS-senior running their team? Lol, come on man. I’m hoping he is smart enough to see how desperate of a move this is. Would he rather go to Duke where they have a HS-senior running their team or KU where they have an experienced collegiate Junior running the point?
Crossing my fingers and hoping Ingram doesn’t fall victim to the smoke and mirror show by K. Him and Cheick would make KU a definite championship contender next year if they commit.
-
Also, just saw on twitter:
“Jeff Goodman @GoodmanESPN St. John’s freshman center Adonis De La Rosa is transferring – per school.”
He is a 7’-0" 322-lb three star center. Does it seem like to anyone else too like the storm may be trying to carve out some more minutes for Diallo???
-
@RockkChalkk crud! Haven’t they signed a few?
-
Also, Brandon Sampson that had committed re-opened his recruiting after Lavin left and now he is going to LSU. If they lose Diallo it will be a pretty rocky start for Mullins.
-
@Statmachine Illegal…DAAAAAAAAAANG
-
@drgnslayr Even better.
-
Good grief…Coach K must really be worried about Ingram or just has a down right man crush on the kid. In fact, it appears he’s stalking Ingram. Whatever is happening, Coach K has taken an uncharacteristic approach to get Ingram.
I love it, because Ingram has either indicated that he’s going to another Carolina school or out of state. Either way, it’s nice to watch Coach K panick like its the last few minutes of a championship game and he’s down 1-2 pts. Let’s see if he nails the trey for the win.
I’ll puke if that rat pulls down Jeter, Thornton, and Ingram at the last minute.
-
@truehawk93 saw a pic, Ingram didn’t look happy!
-
@Statmachine I think Carlton Bragg is our best recruiter. He’s in Ingram’s ear more than Rat Face ever will. I hope Bragg can pull him in from Rat Face’s influence. But you have to love the fact that he hasn’t committed to Dook already. I think if he was going to Dook or UNC, he would commit already.
Why?
-
@Crimsonorblue22 What pic? Do you have a link?
If Jeff Capel is recruiting Ingram for Coach K…I will puke twice if they pull him into Cameron. I can’t believe Capel can out recruit Self and Roberts…No way in hell. Maybe Capel did start out recruiting him. Maybe Capel visited him this last weekend. Maybe Coach K realized he was sending a boy to do a man’s job. Capel is a sorry excuse for a coach. The best player he got lucky with at OU was Blake Griffin and that was because he was in Oklahoma about 15-20 miles North of Norman. Jeff Capel can’t recruit his way out of a room full of top recruits. He’s terrible and a failure as a head coach. He tucked tail and ran back to his daddy Rat Face in Durham. Capels getting hugs and kisses since that return.
If Dook thinks Capel is Rat’s successor, I’ll laugh my head off with each loss Dook sustains. Capel will run the program into the ground. It will be a lot like UNC before they finally pulled Roy from KU. I remember when Matt Doherty tried to coach UNC, it wasn’t pretty.
(http://www.forbes.com/sites/monteburke/2012/03/15/the-rise-and-fall-and-fall-again-of-matt-doherty/) OUCH
Yeah, yeah…In 1992 he became an assistant for Roy Williams at Kansas, two men who would cross paths a decade later under much different circumstances.
link text I’m warning you now, don’t click the next coach after Capel.
Funny when this overpaid coach thing was posted, it was before Calipari won it in 2012. It shows Self, Donovan, and Calipari as overpaid. Self got another F4 in 2012 and a NC game too. All the other coaches had no F4s and no NCs.
-
-
@Crimsonorblue22 He looks uncomfortable. Look at the number of Dook coaches in that pic. Rat Face has his arm around Ingram’s dad. GOOD Grief what a tool. Coach K is terribly desperate and Ingram needs to see right through it.
I remember when Self went to see Okafor and he posted a lot of stuff about Self and his dad. Self even took a Selfie with Okafor’s dad. But look where he ended. Rat Face didn’t hit Okafor and Jones this hard at all. Why? Because he had them at some point. He’s got Ingram in a trap, not a full-court press. You step through the trap and you will get fouled. In fact, Jones recruited Okafor to Dook with all that packaged deal stuff. Now, it’s KU’s turn. Bragg and Ingram need to recruit as a package deal. Come on Bragg, bring Ingram to the Phog.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Is that Elton Brand closest to the camera by Ingram?
It sure is…Dang what is Coach K doing? Bringing all past Dookies to recruit Ingram. Pretty sad.
Jon Scheyer looks like a dork.
-
@truehawk93 the pic creeps me out!!
-
Maybe this will make you feel better…
I saw other pics and visits. Ingram had his arm around the other coaches. But this was early in October. Things have changed drastically.
Someone needs to remind Brandon and his dad that’s “Eleven” rings now.
-
Don’t get too sick or barf too much…
Poor NCSt…It never got off to a good start. Remember, KU came in a little late for Ingram. I think all things considered, KU has made up the most ground after being so late to the party.
The pic of the dookies and Ingrams is funny. Both Brandon and his dad don’t look too confident. They have a very apprehensive look that doesn’t give a good indication of their intentions. Again, all the KU stuff is too early to give any indication of KU’s chances. Hopefully Bragg is reminding him that we will be playing a lot of ball this Summer.
-
He looks best w/our group! Just saying!! adidas shirt too.
