Jayhawks vs. Roll Tiges Thread
-
Defensive effort is solid so far even with playing against hays.
-
Ditto Samis
-
Soooo Calderon has a ways to go
-
This is gross
-
The usual timeout because we look like dog crap
-
And get the lob out of the TO. Classic
-
Flory dude taking your man off the bounce isn’t the play
-
I’m going to like Melvin
-
Flory still challenged at the line this yr
-
This lineup is going to make my eyes bleed
-
Yeah you just gotta laugh at that one
-
Mb looks promising
-
I am whelmed
-
The contrast of Paul and Gee is very funny
-
First-half thoughts:
-
Our defense is stifling
-
Our offense lacks purpose and confidence
-
I have never seen a D2 team defend anywhere near as well as FHSU tonight. Props to them.
-
-
Sad not to get to watch DP. Lots of new faces. Jeremy Case is sitting next to Coach.
-
Should we have let Flory walk to Auburn? Is Samis the worst scholarship player in the Bill Self era? Many such questions are being raised.
-
For reasons known only to God (and Flory’s agent/hangers on) he’s trying to convince the world he’s a wing. Which… no
-
This game sucks eggs
-
Positives so far? Council looks like a dude.
Not a lot else looking great.
-
Bidunga hitting those FT’s.
-
We’re going to win by 1000 on Monday against the Fighting Gottleibs, so I’d at least consider starting Tiller over Flory just as a hey dude get it together thing
-
My 2 cents:
I’m liking a couple of the young guys. Mbiya either seems to be in control and not sped up like a lot of frosh bigs… or he’s just slow. He’s got tallness at least.
Rosario could be something. Seems to know the game. Good court awareness… looks like a good teammate too, so… glue guy maybe. Stache for bonus points.
Elmarko is still an enigma. Mickey D and still seems to make bonehead plays and has weak handles. I hope I’m wrong and he’s just off and rusty.
edited to add: I don’t really care about the transfers. I’m sure they are fine.

@BeddieKU23 – - Think he ended up 0- -6 for the night
-
This game was hard to watch for a lot of it. Thoughts-- – Council solid — - -big boy did fair, don’t think he hurt us that much – not going to see the floor a lot but he still not THAT BAD 9 points- - 9 rebounds - - -Tiller solid again , give him a few more games he going to help even more , gets settled in.- still waiting for Kohl’s 3 point shooting to show- --Trey might be a little better 3 point shooter then I thought & Flory - --buddy- - you got WORK to do
-
Of our three bigs, Flory looked to be the 3rd best. I don’t expect that to continue but its something to watch for.
-
Calderon didn’t even look playable against a D2 team
-
Did we win?
-
Here are my two biggest takeaways.
-
Our defense has a chance to be special. They have some work to do and need to communicate better. But if they play with effort and discipline there is no reason they can’t be elite.
-
Both Louisville and Fort Hayes State have tried guarding us agressively and physically, getting into our grills to make us uncomfortable. I wonder how we will respond when we face a different defensive approach that I’m anticipating facing a lot of this year: sagging off Melvin and Elmarko and daring them to shoot the 3.

Melvin Council Highlights vs. Fort Hays State (16 Pts, 6 Asts)
-
Tre White Highlights vs. Fort Hays State (12 Pts, 6 Rebs)
-
Bryson Tiller Highlights vs. Fort Hays State (10 Pts, 7 Rebs, 2 Blks)
-
@sabramo19 thx!
-
Well, that was, uh, mmm, uh, unpleasant for awhile.
I will say the defense was pretty impressive at times.
On offense, we looked like The Island of Misfit Toys. Who’s gonna step up to be our consistent secondary scorer? I’m not seeing a 3pt outlet. Kohl does not appear to be the answer behind the arc so far.
Flory played? He looked disinterested, but still had 9 boards and some blocks.
Soooo happy Mbiya got some extended run. I hope he sticks around for a few years. He looks unseasoned for sure, but Nice to have a true big!!!
Council is a blur. A slightly unfocused blur, but a blur. I assume he’ll gather more purpose with the ball as the team gets used to each other.
