I saw Matt Taits post where Self said the student hype is not the same level its been in previous years.
I’m used to Self calling a spade a spade with his team when they play soft, no energy and so on. I dont blame the fans for any lack of energy when you start conference completely flat and your all American comments that we need to come out with more energy. It’s not a one time occurrence. This team doesn’t seem ready to play on a lot of nights. Kids are more worried about getting paid than proud to represent the name and legacy on the front of the jersey. I don’t know just my two cents

@dmurban More and more high dollar donors are getting the best seats closest to the court instead of students who are being forced up the stands which results in a quieter AFH. Also, losing 1,000 seats doesn’t help as well because I’m pretty sure some of that lost seating has affected how many students are given tickets to games.
-
Students just getting back this week? Also heard their tickets went up!
-
Up in price and elevation
-
@dmurban It isn’t just that the students are bumped supposedly their seats didn’t change.
I stated how even those lower level donor seats aren’t as full and the reason is because of the recurring product with the results we’ve seen before.
We brought in guards but they struggle to get minutes so we know what we have.
This discourse is happening here, ku247 and Twitter so you know it has permeated the fanbase.
There are defenders of kj and juan but plenty are seeing what they’ve seen before and it is difficult to have any confidence that we are a title contender (we aren’t and we aren’t even going to contend for the title within our own league). Pair that with a coach that can’t stop gushing about guys when they play or when they don’t versus negative tones against the new upper class men that were supposed to elevate the roster - and you have a fan base that is questioning things as seen in attendance

Dude, you really need to give it a rest , it’s getting old you are simply obsessed,

I’d love to see students given seats behind the benches. Can’t think in the league which schools allow this but UofI, UofM, MSU are some I’m familiar with. When I attended We had the section behind the KU bench up to the aisle and behind the north basket, besides the nosebleeds. Not sure when it changed.

I wish everyone had free tickets to watch their kids, grandkids, neices, nephew’s and neighbor’s kids play YMCA ball and tell these spoiled-assed millionaire punks to go pound sand.
Sometime I’ll tell you how I really feel.

I don’t blame anyone for not wanting to show up or get loud after the WV joke. That was the nail in the coffin for me. Been to at least 1 game for the last 20 years besides the Covid year. Last year it was over $1000 to take my family. I’m simply not spending that kind of money when I don’t know if the team that played against WV or the first 8 minutes against TCU will show up or the team that Beat Dook. I’m not gonna waste money if they ain’t gonna play hard. Sad truth but AFH is losing its allure more each season.
-
@kjayhawks we will always try against Duke
-
@approxinfinity we may try to go to Wichita and watch tournament games if we can get a good enough seed. Idk this team has been one of if not the hardest to watch in my lifetime.

The student capacity hasn’t changed. It’s probably more of a generational thing. Among zoomers, interest and attendance in sports has declined from previous generations. And it’s not NIL/portal/whatever, it’s in pro sports too. The data are out there if you want to look it up. Shoot, even Nick Saban got cranky with his student section a couple years ago. As tech has gotten more advanced, it’s definitely more tempting to just watch on your 60” flatscreen than putting together a camping group (compounded by Gen Z spending far less time in in-person social activities than in older generations), actually camping for days, getting to the game 2 hours early, then spending 2 hours at the game.
-
I have yelled at the screen enthusiastically twice this year. Once on a Shak pick 6 dunk, and at a Flory block last game.
Something special about your guys deciding that they are not afraid of the other guys offense, and they will kick its ass.

@wissox Very well could be wrong but — Doesn’t K/State have their students behind the Bench’s ? Probably wrong but I as thinking they were.
-
@nuleafjhawk Yes , please do. Tell us what you really think , and don’t hold nothing back ok ?- -That would be great lmao.- - Just messing with you bud
-
@FarmerJayhawk Sad but true, just like so many other things in this different Generations.–Another small example of way things are changing- is - -What the Hell has happened to our Rock Chalk chant from the crowds at the end of games at the Phog ? I haven’t heard a good hard ROCK CHALK Chant at the end of a game in the Phog this year.

Lew Perkins changed it.

I honestly think people are looking too much into this. I think 1) Self is challenging the students; 2) if there is a drop off in student enthusiasm…it’s probably because of the average team on the court, and 3) the seats that were removed were in the top corners of the field house that were usually empty except for the most packed games.

This is just Self getting all the troops in line with the mission at hand. Fans have been challenged today and I’d imagine we will see an appropriate response. This is a BIG GAME, need to hold serve tonight.
