Well here is the portal time/ this year

  • Well we know Jackson is in or going to be in the portal, I haven’t any different but I guess maybe McDowell?

What about this guy as a possible addition for us- - -Jevon Porter a Soph from Pepperdine, 6"11 - -averaged 16.2 ppg & 5.9 rpg- -two years left to play - - Yes this is Michael Porters brother, out of Columbia Missouri - might be a good addition- - -Him on one side- - - -McNeely on the other

  • @jayballer67 Hell no, not even as a back up. 42% FG and sub 30% from 3 as a high volume shooter. This kid can’t shoot but is trigger happy. There’s a reason why he is at Pepperdine with the lineage he has.

  • KU’s luck with low mid-major transfers is not good….

I’m not against going to low or mid majors for portal guys because I think the majority of our portal guys this off season will come from that level, but Porter sucks and wouldn’t help KU in any way.

  • Bill’s gonna use Kevin’s NIL coming off the books to go get a guard and a wing who can score

  • I recall having some success with guys who signed with Towson U and Appalachian state.

….perhaps the NCAA has successfully convinced some that never happened, but I remember!

Big difference between signed, then de-committed when a better offer came along and played 4 seasons at a low major school.

Ya I thought about that when Pepperdine was mentioned. But I just tossed it out- - -oh well

The dude that plays for Texas - where did he come in form again? - oh ya Oral Roberts - - Pepperdine - -Oral Robets- - - Oral Robets- – Pepperdine. Hmmm

  • Out of curiosity, any word on coaches next year? Will Jeremy Case stay? Will either Roberts or Townsend move on or retire? Is Self happy with his support staff?

The difference between Max Abmas at ORU and Porter at Pepperdine is team also success. Abmas took ORU to a pair of NCAA Tournaments including the Sweet 16 in 2021 while Pepperdine has had 4 winning seasons total since the last time they made the NCAA Tournament in 2002.

I’m not buying that, it’s not like he cost pepperdine games by his self. - Alot depends the quality of the OTHER players around him are.

I found a couple of others you don’t want nothing to do with either Clark Sloqjcher- - From Penn- -Avg 18 ppg and shot 42 % from the 3- -BUT he is from Penn so that won’t work Then we have another from Pepperdine- - but it’s Pepperdine 14.7 ppg Name Houston Mallette 43 fg %-- & 41 % from three. -Were in need guys that can score the ball - -shooters from distance, this guy more efficient taking shots off the dribble, but he is from another lower P-5 so that won’t work. Porte isn’t th reason Peppreine suks all bty himself sorry to say .

  • Pepperdine had good players. And also had Lorenzo Romar. So that wasn’t ideal.

  • @jayballer67 Go back and look at Porter’s shooting numbers again. 42% isn’t his 3 point shooting, that’s his overall shooting percentage. His 3 point percentage is under 30%. His 2 point shooting percentage was 48%.

We don’t need and shouldn’t want a 6-11 big man that took 14 shots per game at a 42% clip.

We have a 7’2 5 that thinks he wants to play the 3 and shoot 3pt% where he was like maybe , maybe 3 for his last 28 - when he needs to park his ass down low post up and yet be dam strong enough to finish a play. you wanna talk about a player that likes play hero ball an out of position

  • @jayballer67 Both players averaged about 14 shots per game. Dickinson takes 2 3’s per game and Porter takes 5 per game. Which one thinks he’s a perimeter player again?

Dickinson And no a good one at all. keep his fricken ass where it belongs postin up low. if he i any kind of true post player he shoul dominate down low but he doesn’t he is Bill says Soft just lie a roll of Charmin

  • Most of Dickinson problem is our lack of shooting, I’ll see if I can find the twitter or X link to the photo I saw earlier from the Houston game. Juan had the ball up top and had 7 feed of room and all other guards/ wings had over 10 feet between them and defense. Furphy and Kevin were both in but they still filled the middle of the lane and said you can’t beat us with 3s.

How is the guy who takes 2 out of 14 shots per game from 3 more of a perimeter player than the guy who takes 5 out of 14 per game? Explain the math to me on that one, or are you just pulling stuff out of your butt to create a narrative that you want, but isn’t based in fact?

  • The thing is, the bigs in the NBA have to be outside threats as well… So if you want potential NBA talent in a college program, you have to accept 6-11+ guys shooting some 3s. If you stifle that part of their game, they will feel that an aspect of their development for the NBA is stifled… and eventually you will lose the opportunity to have future NBA-level bigs come to the program.

It can be frustrating/painful to watch guys work their game out, but that’s what college is for most of the guys we will recruit because we’re looking for potential NBA talent. Self coaches them up, helps them refine and polish their game…

And then the good ones like Furphy fly away all too soon.

no I am now at the point where once again you are someone who just wants to continually argue and bitch and OMG can’t be wrong. all logic has now wnt out the window with you. you are a person that loves to just go an go and go and end up just babbling .You don’t like Porter - -I think he would be fine.- -End of story—Thanks and have a great day

  • This dude just went in the portal and has an absolutely nutso stat line. Never started but played almost 30 MPG and was possibly the loosest cannon, averaging 14 FGA and 5 FTs per game. And played good defense to boot. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/jordan-ivy-curry-1.html

  • @FarmerJayhawk

Volume shooter… 38% from trey. Possibilities… but we definitely need a known D1 perimeter shooter who can go get his points. Would be nice to get at least two guards who can muscle up and hit treys with a known background. Definitely need high athletic abilities!

I still think Furph returns and we lock down McNeeley. Hunter, Harris and KJ returns… we add the needed athleticism of Flory Bidunga at the 4/5. Elmarko? Thinking he leaves if we recruit over him (shouldn’t be hard to do). Jamari… 50/50… not sure he makes an impact.

We are bleeding for a superstar shooting guard who is consistent from trey, can go 1 on 1 off the dribble, while still being pass capable. Someone who has master handles! Actually… 2!

We need big results from the portal this year!

I have high expectations after getting the NCAA crap off our back!

  • Connor Essegian has been rumored to be possibly headed to the portal. He was absolutely deadly from 3 his freshman year at UW and then slumped late and mysteriously played infrequently this year and his shot nose dived with it. He still averaged almost 12 per game as a freshman. If he refinds his stroke he’s another Jeff Boschee type.

UW also has a guy who didn’t play this year. Sounds bad right at the outset when I say this, but Gus Yalden was suspended for a pot misdemeanor arrest and an underage drinking thing right before the season. He came in as a very intriguing 4 star with a Larry Bird like skill set. I’m not saying he’s the next Bird! His reason for not playing at all is mysterious. Might he enter the portal? Maybe? Mums the word. He’s been suited up and enthusiastic on the bench all season. Don’t know what to think but these are two guys that intrigue me.

I know Badger players don’t excite fans of blue bloods and I understand that but there’s some real potential with both these dudes.

  • Connor Essegian now in the portal. He might be worth a look, but coaches know better than I.

  • @wissox said in Well here is the portal time/ this year:

Connor Essegian now in the portal. He might be worth a look, but coaches know better than I.

What caused him to have the major drop in minutes this season?

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 He was hurt at the beginning and never found his shot. His defense is pretty weak too, and with 3 new guys at the guard position, his minutes diminished a lot. When he is on like last years first 2/3rds he really is a weapon.

  • We don’t need guys weak on defense, we have plenty of those already.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 I’ll bet he’d be better than a four star McDonald’s All-American.

  • Don’t know too much about Dug McDaniel, but he entered the portal today. Averaged 16 a game for Michigan, has 2 years eligibility. He just doesn’t know how to spell Doug.

Tony Perkins is a baller for Iowa and he’s got one year left.

Hilariously Patrick McCaffery has transferred from his daddy at Iowa.

  • Here is an idea. We get Thiero in here. Hope he can improve his trey shooting to give another weapon, but even without a high trey %, Thiero is an absolute beast and he plays physical and drives the ball. We need physical guys who drive!

Suddenly, with KJ and Bidunga we have EASILY the stoutest team in America! Remember Thiero this past season? He ate us up.
