MAUI WOWIE TOURNAMENT
-
All I pray for today is no injuries. If Anyone watched Tennessee they you know what i’m talking.
-
@jayballer67 thankfully I went to bed before the debacle started. But you were right, they should have given the game to them to start with and everyone could have gotten some sleep.
-
There is a big difference between censorship and blocking a moron. No one needs to listen to that drivel. He has the right to be a miserable jackass, I have the right to ignore him. Thankfully the board give me the ability to outright remove the cancerous, fun killing, preying disease that they are. This is, after all, just for entertainment.
-
At least they don’t play at 1030 tonite. Only silver lining I could find so far
-
@cragarhawk Game would have been later afternoon if we’d won!
-
I don’t mind Shaka, obviously a minority here, but he can coach.
-
@wissox haha. Ya I guess there went my silver lining.
I do wonder what was said. I couldn’t find a Shaka presser to see what he had to say. And CS didn’t say much. Kinda laughed it off and said whatever Shaka said wasn’t accurate. Lol
-
I’m not going to stress too much about yesterday’s game because the loss didn’t expose anything new about the team as far as weaknesses go in my eyes. All our warts when we play poorly are easy to see and it’s why the margin for error with this squad is as low as it’s been under Self. They got rattled by defensive pressure, made careless mistakes and couldn’t make a simple play like catching the ball. Defensively the rebounding effort was unacceptable, and we couldn’t stay in front of their guards at all. The double-digit turnovers and offensive rebounds in the first half told the whole story and it’s not a Surprise the 2nd half didn’t get any better.
Bigger picture, Marquette looked the better team and it was noticeable even before the first tv timeout. Marquette is a good, experienced team that is playing to its scheme and player development really well. Kudos to Shaka for what he’s built there but I’m not a fan of Shaka so that’s all he’s getting from me.
One noticeable issue on defense I’ve seen is that Kentucky & Marquette has exposed KU’s lack of team quickness & speed at the guard position. We have seen guards get to spots at will so far even against Dejuan, we just don’t seem to have the athletes to match there. We have been slow on fighting through screens and staying in front of guys with the ball. It’s good film to have for Self but I’m not sure this issue will go away either as the season goes along. The loss of Morris continues to show it’s ugly head.
-
@BeddieKU23 , I didn’t even watch expecting us to get our butts kicked. The lack of athletic ability has been on show a lot thus far, we will struggle in the conference I think.
-
What about the continual slap the rebound out to the free throw line? It worked very well for the 6’11" guy when we blocked him out he just went above everyone. That’s innovative if you have the horse to do it. The frenetic guarding from the 3 point line and everywhere else was a feature on the 1977 national champion Marquette team coached by Al Maguire. He called it bellybutton defense. He was very colorful and funny.
-
We’ll see how they close the gap on things as the season goes. Yesterday was a bad game and we won’t play like that a lot during the season but who knows. The KJ situation certainly has had an impact.
Today, Tennessee is not only a very physical but athletic team as well. This one could be ugly if they don’t shake the game off and come focused and prepared. Last night’s game felt like a game that will carry over into today though, 24 hours doesn’t give you the time to refresh. It wasn’t like KU played well against Chaminade either outside of two guys. The pieces around Hunter and Kev have to step up or we’ll have these nights.
-
@cragarhawk if you have espn+ post game should be on there. Also on you tube. Shaka said he and Kevin have this thing since Tex.Tech about kevin talking to the coach. Acted like it wasn’t a big deal. Well it was last night. He went after Kevin. You can see on espn they have a clip. Supposedly he said, STFU. That’s when our coaches and players got mad and Self said in his post game Shaka lied.
-
Who is going to win this game? I see both teams coming in as 1 - 1. They played Wisconsin and Purdue and we played UK and Marquette. Juan will need to be our difference maker and will be all season. There are few players like Hunter Dickinson .," I want to say there are few like Kevin but I have this niggling doubt that he is playing above his real pay grade. I hope I’m wrong and if I am he will be one of the best two way players in I don’t know when. McDowell and the The Furph have something different about them. Both are unafraid to try and impact the game and don’t seem to be bothered by rookie mistakes. Elmarko comes out of his bewildered state and does something special every now and then and I’m not ready to drop on Timberlake as he is hard nosed and can shoot so sweet sometimes. Parker is our big guy replacement and I’m not sure but he seems to be talented when he is not unsure about things.
-
Hunter and Kevin had 11 TO’s between them. Ugh.
-
Is Timberlake the worst scholarship player in the Bill Self era?
-
I predict at least 6 points for Nick today. The lid will come off.
-
If Smart did say STFU and wouldn’t fess up Bill ain’t gonna like that for sure and I suppose we’all do not either. An apology is up to him but it tarnishes his good win yesterday.
-
I really think our best option is to slow the game down and make each possession matter
-
Remember how many of us were down on Big Dave? We lived to regret that! Self knew what he was doing, playing for April. Nick isn’t gaining confidence on the bench, you don’t stop being a shooter. JMO
-
I used to stick up for Shaka. But hes a brat and hasnt gotten any more graceful with age.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Nicks shooting is one thing being the worst defender in D1 is another. He’s not gonna get more athletic in next few months. Dave always had potential and size.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 I noticed it during the 1st game and initially thought it was a T-shirt. If it is a PICC line (peripherally inserted central catheter) which is the typical location for one, then that would indicate a potential infection of the heart valve that requires a longer course of antibiotic, which is usually 6-12 weeks. But since @FarmerJayhawk says it is routine then it is more like an ambulatory BP machine to monitor his BP. High BP puts more stress on the heart valve and thus the heart.
I am conjecturing based upon my medical background. If this is not appreciated, let me know and I will keep it to myself.
-
Not even close. The adjustment for him is taking a while or it’s something else. May not be the fit we needed on either end, so far his output is concerning. You’d think some law of averages is coming with him as we play more. Seems to lack confidence currently. Hopefully he is like many that overcome
-
He hit one last night. Maybe the lid is off now. We can hope
-
I’m taking Tennessee by 17 in this one, hope I’m wrong tho
-
@kjayhawks that’s alot. Lol
-
@cragarhawk they have kicked our butt so much here lately
-
Good guys by 10
-
Nice d there
-
Are we that bad tho? Or just looked it last night? Maybe we just haven’t played great yet
-
At some point elmarko you have to actually make a shot bud
-
Assuming KJ has a better game today.
-
Terrible pass there. Wow
-
A little sloppy so far. Quick turnaround would be rough
-
Nice job kj
-
Elmarko has a long way to go on defense. His offense will come
-
Love seeing Elmarko on the attack
-
Was about to say the same
-
Nice block/head
-
Strange we play back to back against former Texas coaches.
-
Nice recovery. He looked burnt on that
-
KJ trying soooo hard
-
Come on kj draw a foul. Stop being cute
-
My neighbors having an oyster roast for Thanksgiving. I dont think i have ever had seafood for Turkeyday but i would.
-
The quick turnaround is some of the reason I think we get blown out.
-
@approxinfinity ooo that sounds tasty
-
Much better start then yesterday. Hopefully we can sustain it. So far we have taken Tennessee out of their pick and roll game but can’t let Zeigler impact the game off the bench for him. He’s fast and has no fear. Keep these guys off the paint
-
KJ playing to his game - lobs ad little 8-10 footers is where it is at a dose that he will be fine, playing within himself
-
Hope the quick turn around doesn’t hurt us
-
Why are the late games from yesterday the early games today? Makes no sense
