Chiefs season long game thread

These announcers, are they new to us? Don’t seem to know us. Not as sharp.

Dan Orlovski is very football intelligent. He routinely makes good points with well thought out points in the radio.

Rich Eisen is just a boring individual, I have no idea who put him in charge of calling games. He lacks emotion, everything is deadpanned. Lousy game day announcer, but ok on sports center.

Rich Eisen is a pompous douche.

  • Chiefs O is just not good enough, cannot sustain drives, too many drops and penalties. Cannot convert 3rd & 1.

    Chiefs D is very good.

Having said that Chiefs are still in 1st place with 7-2 so as a fan I should not complain too much.

Hopefully, with a bye they can regroup and come back with greater focus.

As a side note, ripping ball out of Cheeta’s hands for a touchdown was sweet. The play had 3 plays in it. McDuffie is next Chiefs legendary player.

Veatch and scouts have done an incredible job in drafting D players but not so much on O side.

  • So the Chiefs offense is still about Top 10 in all categories or better. That being said, they were overall No. 1 to No. 3 the last few seasons.

But, their yards per game was 413 in 2022, but down to 368 per game this season.

Hard to say if it’s the chicken or the egg that may be causing some issues. Coaching, lack of WRs, or general decline because the league has caught up.

  • @AsadZ Pacheco, Humphrey, Smith, Rice, to name a few …not so bad in my estimation. (Yes, Rice has some drops. Mahomes has some fumbles and interceptions. Why expect a rookie to be error-free?)

  • So what’s the deal with Toney? Why can’t we game plan to get him more touches? He seems to make things happen after he catches/receives the ball. Just like Rice.

  • @mayjay O line has been good except for Smith who was not drafted by Veatch.

My comment has more to do with WRs. Drops are across the board, not just Rice. Pacheo has been solid and need more touches.

  • Play calling! Run on 1st and 2nd and 3rd we go really long when we need 4-7

  • Fire Nagy, get a real OC. The loss of Bienemy and WR coach (Embery?)is apparently bigger than many thought it could be. Juju being replaced by Rice shouldn’t cause this big of a drop off.

Also Veach kinda sucks so far at identifying Offensive skill players. Maybe if he threw more resources at it the results would be better? Almost all his draft picks have been on the defensive side.

I was talking about Trey Smith, drafted by Veatch. Seems pretty good to me. Are you thinking about Donovan Smith, acquired in free agency, who has not been great?

    https://chiefswire.usatoday.com/2023/11/10/kansas-city-chiefs-trey-smith-has-nfl-longest-snap-streak-without-allowing-sack/

  • @mayjay Oh yes

I’m referring to Smith who was signed as a free agent.

  • The Chiefs game felt like the KU game over the weekend: stupidity and turnovers.

  • The chiefs have a major issue with catching the ball, continuing to lead the league in that category. They said on the radio this morning that drop number is the highest in over 10 years for the first 11 weeks of season. Fans have seen saying all year, Reid said they were fine at the position before the trade deadline and it couldn’t be a more a BS comment.

  • They cannot score in the 2nd half, 3 games in a row with 0 points in 2nd half.

    Is Reid being outcoached?

  • If Kelce shuts his mouth and doesn’t fumble the Chiefs win. If Mahomes doesn’t throw a red zone interception, they win. If MVS could catch a ball, any ball, they win. Doesn’t seem like a coaching issue, but if it is the difference from the best offense in football last year and the product this year is Nagy and JuJu. In the offseason fire Nagy, cut MVS - pickup a decent veteran wide receiver to steady the group and draft a couple young guys. Problem is the 1st round pick likely needs used on a new tackle as they both suck. (Oh and Andy won’t fire Nagy, he kept Sutton around for years)

  • Dros and penalties have been a major issue all season long.

Teams are double/triple teaming Kelce and Chiefs WRs still cannot get open, and when they do get open, they drop the ball.

MVS has been a major disappointment, I have watched the open TD play now several times and still SMH.

Yup, well said. I was pleased they gave Pacheco some touches. That was a positive. Beast. Honestly, cut ALL the receivers except Rice. Then just give him end arounds and shorts slants, let him YAC it up.

Play calling has been suspect at times this year. Last night seemed OK.

The Kelce fumble was surprising. But before the game started, looking at the rain, I thought the game could easily come down to a slippery fumble or weird play or two.

I truly think Mahomes has been off his game. Inaccurate a lot. He’s tossed multiple picks when he lazily lofts it over defenders.

  • Teams have adapted to how the Chiefs play & they have adjusted. - -What have the Chiefs done ? - -Nothing , like they were saying on first take - -why in the hell did the Chiefs not go out and get a receiver during free agency ? -Team are taking Kelce out of the game - -doubling him , even tripling him and daring the chiefs to bet them with what they have left.

They said like KC has not scored a point in the 2nd half , been outscored like 38-0 in the 2nd half in the last 3 games . -Maholmes starting to press a little/frustration sitting in - - - — - -5 dropped passes last night the Chiefs have now dropped 26 passes for the season which is the most since the 2017 -49ers – just not going well right now.

They are getting blasted on the TV , saying the organization is to blame for doing nothing – not good right now

I’m kinda torn on the MVS drop. At first glance I thought Mahomes overthrew him. Replays showed it was a good throw, catchable. But MVS really had to accelerate, put on the jets to catch up with the pass. So, wish he would have caught it. Not easy though.

Can we just cut Watson today? A giant embarrassment.

  • When Mahomes screws up in any fashion, throw in the towel. He gets so frustrated he can’t even pass gas. It seems very easy to get him rattled.

  • lol. And the wretched Chiefs sit in pole position of the AFC with tie breakers over the Dolphins and Jags. Would be an excellent year for a team like the Packers that squandered all of Rodgers prime. Or the Chargers that are absolutely wasting Justin Herbert. The Charger situation makes me sad as that could make for some great games if they ever figure it out.

  • The Chiefs seem to have some scheduling luck from here on out. Helpful that Burrow is out. New England not great. The Raiders hopefully gonna Raider.

    So, favorable outlook at least.

  • @rockchalkjayhawk They should finish first in the AFC and host another AFC championship game at Arrowhead. The team is deeply flawed in the wr room though so it’ll be interesting leaning on the defense for a change.

  • Best D under Reid

  • @AsadZ I still think the O will improve, we have mahomes!

  • Scoreless in the second half the last three games. Only 13 points (1 TD and 2 Field Goals) in the last 5 games second half. Something is screwed up. This was a team that could score in 2 minutes on a whim to come back and win the past three years.

  • @DanR they’re too big for their britches. Success has ruined them. It happens all the time.

Instead of football, Mahomes is thinking of Whataburger, the Royals, Sporting KC and the 2,000 commercials he’s in. Kelce is thinking about TS.

Them two are constantly on the TV. Way too many commercials.

  • @nuleafjhawk I’d think the baby is more front and center than commercials that were shot over the summer. It’s not like he cuts out at halftime to shoot the commercials live.

If I were Mahomes I’d be day dreaming of having a different receiving corps. If Kelce was gone and this continues for a couple more years, I’d worry about him pulling a Brady and going to a stacked team with no QB.

  • After the Chiefs’ game, I’ll be looking in on and cheering for the Chargers over the Ravens.

  • From NBC’s Pro Football Talk:

On Saturday, Raiders safety Roderic Teamer emerged from injured reserve. On Sunday, his return to game action was derailed.

Via Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Teamer was arrested on DUI charges this morning.

Teamer will not play in Sunday’s game against the Chiefs.

  • @stoptheflop Chargers gonna Charger. Don’t wager would be my advice. lol. I’m rooting for them too!

  • Also rooting for the Broncos over the Browns. Weird to be rooting for two AFC West teams to win

  • Chiefs slept thru the first quarter today. Woke up in the second. Hoping Pacheco’s energy is contagious.

  • I honestly don’t think Mahomes the problem in the slightest. Still top 5 in every statistical category with his team leading the NFL in drops. Does he have some high risk throws, maybe some that aren’t intelligent…,yes. But always had that. If guys could catch he’s probably the leading MVP candidate right now. Add about 250 yards and 4 TDs, plus taking away 2 or 3 picks.

  • Looking great tonight! Winners!

  • Rice looking really good! Pacheco 🥰

  • Come on Chiefs! D needs to get a stop! We can’t get a TD!

  • Hanging in there, although the offense is still weirdly impotent

  • This Chief’s team would get demolished by KU. #OHYESTHEYWOULD

  • Why do the Chiefs keep #74? He costs them dearly every game.

  • TD!

  • 54%? We have a tough time in the red zone w/4 tries. Much better series. Come on D!

  • Will the Chiefs make it thru two straight games without the opponent having a penalty accepted on them?

  • Anybody see the Meritrust commercial w/Jalon Daniels in it?

  • Cook sounds bad!😢🙏❤

  • Well He!!

  • Defense is making Jordan Love look like Tom Brady

  • Still think chefs win this but Nagy has to go. At some point Patrick needs to call some audibles

  • Free play and throw a 2 yard pass
