DaJuan Appreciation Thread

  • Let’s send some Jayhawk love to our PG.

Where will we be without him?

Ever since his first year, our team looks different (better) when he is on the court.

The guy is genuinely modest, no hoopla, just goes about his business without drama.

  • Great thread and well deserved

Juando has to score like that and he can’t be passive offensively. Attack the rim and MAKE things happen. Don’t just be a ball reverser.

He was a stud last night.

Between our core 4 we can win a lot just need Juando to score

His 4 turnovers were bad as he had some freshman bonehead mistakes so look for him to take care of the ball better but that was the only complaint

7 assists as expected which is crazy lol

    Needs to get some steals

  • I don’t have as much knowledge as you here but in my opinion he doesn’t have to score like that to be great.

If others are scoring around him he has to be the floor marshal and not let his man score.

    Run the offense.

  • In a perfect world Juan is a 10 and 10 type guy on a nightly basis

  • @AsadZ I’d agree if this was the 2022 team with two stud nba guys in Och and Braun (need to add Jalen as well) and then two solid overseas guys in big Dave and Remy.

With this team he has to score and put up double digit points and as many assists as he can get while ATTACKING the other teams guards. Be in attack mode like Frank 24/7 from the tip and get after them.

This team doesn’t have the horses offensively for him to take the night off against good teams (ignore Manhattan and the other crap teams every school plays).

    Hunter option 1, Kev/KJ 2a and Juan 2b.

Even last year he could defer to again two nba guys in Wilson and Gradey.

We don’t have nba guys but rather fringe nba guys so Juan 100% has to play more like Frank than freshman/soph Juan

Exactly- - he doesn’t need to score in every dam game. His job is to run the team , get others involved , dish the dimes and play defense & before anybody says ANYTHING about his defense you don’t get named defensive player of the year in the conference by being a bad defender.

Sure Juan scoring is an added bonus - -but hell even if he score 5-6 points a game it’s gravy - -we have others that score the ball. Juan is msart enough to know that if they continue to back off of him – he CAN SCORE but his primary job is to Facilite manage the floor which he is dam good at

your sadly mistakin - -there is no way in hell should have to score double digits in games for us to be successful. - he scores 5-7 points a game were fine

  • @jayballer67 Okay let’s dumb this way down and do some simple math.

    Hunter let’s be generous 20 a game

    KJ - 15

    Kev - 12

    Then what and who?

    Juan - 7

    That’s 54 points a game

Anyone see furphy, Timberlake, Braun or mcdowell killing it? Our bench points were bad last night.

If we get 6-10 points from the bench and average 62-64 a game I think we lose more than expected because as @BShark alluded to we aren’t a good defensive team.

I don’t get why everyone thinks we can win without Juan scoring much because this team isn’t the same as the past 2 years.

  • Probably need Juan to score 10-12. That’s really not asking him to be out of character (as he was last night). It’s getting some layups and hitting free throws. If he gets 10 and 10 assists, it’s probably a recipe for success, provided the other guys hold serve.

He’s such and understated leader. I really can’t recall a PG like him.

  • I’m going to need every opponent to piss off Juan from now on. His competitiveness shined and he’s a stud. I do think he needs to be comfortable scoring more this year because I think it helps the team more then he may realize. His unselfishness is uncanny and always a weapon. No other PG I’d rather have though, he’s a Jayhawk for life

  • Juan was really perfect from 3 against Kentucky; his only miss was a heave at the end of the shot clock in the last few minutes of the game. So, on real 3 pt shot attempts he was 5/5. That will teach Calipari and other coaches not to pull back the defense when Juan has the ball outside the 3 pt line. I don’t think Juan will get as many wide open looks in the future as he had against Kentucky.

  • @kuballin10 Juan will score when called upon.

  • @BShark For us to be at our best he needs to score double digits.

For us to beat the top teams this year he can’t have 2 points and 10 assists. That works against Texas techs, Manhattan, isu’s ect but not against top 10 teams

I see no reason why he won’t score double digits against most good teams we play. He had no need to score at all against sub 300 KP teams.

  • @BShark

His 3 pt shot has improved a lot over the last 2 years and if Tuesday was any indication of further improvement to his form and accuracy look out!

He should get a lot of open looks too. That fake pass was awesome lol.

  • @kuballin10 Did you forget Jackson existed? First off everyone scores less in conference, most the games in the B12 are a race to 75 points. We don’t need to average the 95 we currently do. Hunter will average 20 plus a game, Kev will average 15 plus a game and KJ Will average 10 plus game. The rest will pens if Furphy gets hot like he did the other night or Jackson. Juan also will play a roll in, like next game against Chaminade, he wont score in double figure’s because he won’t have too. I’ll guarantee you right now this team with finish the season averaging above 75 ppg.

  • @BeddieKU23 His shot looks niiiccceee! It’s clear he’s been in the gym hopefully shooting 500-1000 a day.

The ball came off his hand great last night as his backspin was more than the previous year. He’s always flicked it but it looked like no doubt every time he shot it.

  • @kjayhawks I legitimately did regarding Elmarko. He’s only scored off of layups or when he drives. His shot is not great.

I didn’t feel like I had to preface it but Juan has to score against the great teams so he might as well get used to it against the bad teams.

I agree he won’t look to score at all against chaminade but then the next two games I hope he steps up by hunting his shot from the tip.

@wissox - this is the appreciation thread I referenced…feel free to scroll up and acknowledge what I said about Dajuan
