NFL Draft - 2023

What do fans think about Hopkins?

He has been linked to Chiefs for some time.

    Should Chiefs sign him?

I’m out on Hopkins. You don’t give 30-year old WRs expensive and long contracts. We just won the Superbowl with a pretty mediocre set of WRs. Roll with what you’ve got.

Yea, but this crew is even more mediocre than last year’s group. I’m with ya on the money aspect though.

  • @rockchalkjayhawk I think Toney goes for 1200 yards this year if (admittedly a big if) he can stay healthy. If Toney is out for an extended period of time they could have some issues.

  • @AsadZ You missed the headline, apparently, so it looked like statement rather than the author’s idea of what NO should do. Happens a lot, partly because layout editing is soooo poor nowadays!

“7 Post-June 1 Moves That NFL Teams Should Make Before Training Camp”

  • Julio is done. You’re better off giving those reps to the young guys.

That’d be awesome if Toney could have that kind of production. he’s a bit of a mystery, so fingers crossed.

  • A bit late but Clarke going to Broncos.

  • Indifferent about Clarke moving on. He had his moments.

  • Clark was only good in the playoffs, but when you’re there every year that’s kinda important. Hope they can replace his post season production with in house talent. That guy from San Fran is intriguing

Meh, the SF guy isn’t really intriguing to me. I watched most of his games for the last two years. He’s been “on the verge” of a breakout season for like half a decade now. He’s a body. Seems durable. Throw in the domestic violence stuff and double meh.

  • @rockchalkjayhawk Not up to speed on his off the field baggage. Great just got rid of Clark and replaced him with a less productive version of the same guy.

  • @dylans Some experts who obviously know more than me give the Chiefs good grades for signing him.

Tyler Sullivan at CBS Sports gave the deal an A- grade and wrote, “Omenihu has a ton of upside and should thrive in Steve Spagnuolo’s defense. Playing next to Chris Jones will benefit him immensely.” Our pal Matt Verderame from Sports Illustrated gave the Chiefs a B but docked them solely for his off-the-field concerns. Meanwhile, Seth Walder from ESPN concurs with the B rating and calls Omenihu a “fine” signing given the weak free agent selection.

  • Cullen is a very good D-line coach. He’ll get the most out of the group. We shall see.

  • He was playing in SF behind elite DEs. At KC he will get more opportunities to showcase.

  • True. I’m hoping for his breakout season! Or at least a solid rotational guy.

  • What do fans think about Chris Jones holdout. Per media reports he is demanding $30M/year and Chiefs are not close to this figure.

In the meantime, he is being fined $50M/day for missing camp practices.

  • I think Chris Jones is 29. Likely his best football will be behind him in 2 years. He’s under contract this season and then he has two years of Franchise Tag in his future.

Not sure he has a lot of leverage. Not sure the Chiefs benefit from giving him a deal. So to me the Chiefs can play hardball and should.

I think he plays this year under his current deal and then he gets a new deal after the season. Either with the Chiefs or through a tag and trade.

  • @Kcmatt7 Chris Jones franchise tag number for 2024 is 120% of his cap hit this year less a handful of incentives, since that is more than the average of the 5 highest paid at the position. I believe it would be 32-34 million. He’s within his right to ask for 30 million. The Chiefs need to be fiscally responsible, it’s a tough call. If they can get the right picks for him, he might have to go. Not this season though, it’s too late after the draft. Not being able to get a capable replacement would waste a year of Mahomes prime.

  • Holdouts and contract demands in the NFL have never made sense to me.

And why do NFL teams give in if a guy is under contract?

    Shut up and play.

  • I’m never going to fault a guy for trying to maximize his short earning potential in the NFL. As a fan I wish Jones had held out earlier so there were more options though.

  • Some intriguing roster batteles:

Back up QB: Buechele vs Gabbert: I’d love to see Buechele get it but Reid will most likely with Gabbert for his experience.

TE #3: Bushman vs Bell: I think Bushman will edge out Bell.

DBs: Several young DBs on the roster and some may be picked up by other teams and not make practice squd. I’d like Nic Jones to make 53-man roster.

WRs: Will Chiefs carry 7 WRs. What about J Ross. He is very talented but has he shown enough to make the roster?

DL/DE: This is the most concerning position. Will Veatch bring back Dunlap for some depth? If Jones does not show up, look for one or two signings.

  • Agree on QB Buechele, reminds me of QB 1! Hoping BellDozer makes it. I think Ross does too. Jones 🙏

  • Justyn Ross has been a training camp favorite and has had some nice plays in the preseason. Smith Marsette is interesting. I believe 7 WRs will happen.

I think Perine makes the roster over Prince now too.

  • 2 INTs may cost Buechele back up job although Chiefs were playing 2nd string OL but Browns had 1st string D in Q1.

I’d love to see I Marsette get a spot but unless Chiefs carry 8 WRs he may be cut.

Hope Veatch is working on some potential trades to bolster DL.

  • Rumors of Chiefs and Carson Wentz. I’d be pretty happy with that.

  • As long as he never plays. Wentz has the tools, but lacks the leadership skills - he’s a bit soft between the ears.

  • Yea, The backup QBs look a bit shaky so far. I’d be happy with Wentz.

  • @dylans Or he can get plenty of time in Q4 when Chiefs are ahead by a few TDS.

  • Coburn, 6th round selection from TX, was waived but picked up by Broncos. Chiefs gambled on that he will clear waivers.

It is disappointing as Chiefs lost on a young player they were hoping to develop.

  • @AsadZ It is disappointing, but they must not have seen much from him to waive him over Herring or Dickson.

  • Stroud is thriving with Texans, they can make playoffs.

On the other hand, Bryce Young is struggling with Panthers, they haven’t put him in a good situation.

It’s interesting to see how a team’s culture and system impacts development and performance of young talented QBs.

  • Big win for Broncos on the road over Bills.

Broncos have young talented players on both sides and Wilson is playing much better.

They are buying into Payton’s system.

  • WE’RE #1! WE’RE #1!*

    *in the draft. Again.

  • This honor goes to Panthers.

  • Oops

    I stand corrected.

I think they should keep Fields and not go for QB.
