Developing story here WOW.

Adios, Longhorns! Can’t leave the Big12 fast enough!

Are you freaking kidding? I turn off Twitter for 10 minutes, and look what happens…
-
3rd degree felony is pretty serious. Presumably choked his wife but I’m sure we will hear more on this.
-
He’s a drinker- you can tell it by how red his face always is. Alcohol makes people do insane things, like choking your wife.

Yep. Notoriously hard to work for/with too, churns through assistants. Contrast with Self.
-
oh man this is potentially insane.
-
@BeddieKU23 He should never coach again idgaf. I’m guessing he moneys out of jail.

I have no mercy for wife beaters. He should never coach again.
-
With charges like that I would agree. We all know Coaches such as these have 9 lives, run through them and just wait a year for nobody to care again.
-
@BeddieKU23 My cop buddy said this
“He will hire an attorney who’s buddy buddy with the prosecutor, he will pay him whatever he can to get out of it and it will be some shitty plea deal”
-
This is not going to fly well for Texas. It’s one thing when a player does something like this because of being young and all, but this is their head coach and supposed to mentor players.
I would think the university would hold off for a while until the facts come out… after that… if it is as bad as it smells you would think he would be terminated.
-
I hope that scenario isn’t reality.
-
Well I just lost all respect for Beard. Now to see how Texas handles it. As for the justice system - just hold your nose. The judicial system is hopelessly broken.

He will coach again. Maybe even for Texas depending on how much they want to win. Winning is intoxicating as is the money that goes with it.
-
Uh oh
-
@dylans Oh I know, just talking about what I would want.

Agreed. 100%
-
too soon for them to hire Mark Adams?
-
Put him on administrative leave while the legal process plays out, then make a decision based on the outcome of the facts gathered during the investigation, not the trial because he might get off easy with a plea deal.
-
Imagine Rodney Terry will be acting coach for the foreseeable future. Rodney has previously coached UTEP/Fresno St. He’s the only Assistant of the 3 with Head Coach experience I believe.
-
-
Developed Bryson Williams at UTEP. That dude had it out for KU
-
he chokes off the court as he does on the court.
-
His attorney says it’s a mistake, he’s innocent

WOWZER. I hadn’t heard this yet:
Texas coach Chris Beard arrested on felony assault charge for alleged strangulation of family member Beard, 49, was booked by the Austin Police Department early Monday morning Matt Norlander
By Matt Norlander 2 hrs ago
Texas men’s basketball coach Chris Beard, 49 was arrested early Monday morning after allegedly strangling a person at a home. Beard was booked at 4:18 a.m. CT with the Travis County Sheriff’s Office seeking a felony third-degree assault charge, according to police records.
Police responded to a “disturbance hot shot” call at 12:15 a.m., according to an Austin Police Department spokesperson, defined as “incidents which are in progress and are an immediate threat to life and/or public safety (i.e. shootings, stabbings, rapes, riots). These calls are dispatched immediately.”
Beard is in police custody. The No. 2 Longhorns are scheduled to face Rice on Monday evening.
“The university is aware of the situation regarding Chris Beard,” a Texas spokesperson said in a statement. “We are continuing to gather information and monitoring the legal process.”
Texas poached Beard from Big 12 rival Texas Tech in 2021. With the Red Raiders, and during his short stint with Little Rock, Beard rocketed himself into the upper echelon of the coaching ranks as one of the sport’s rising stars. Beard went 30-5 in one season at Little Rock, advancing to the NCAA Tournament, before spending five seasons at Texas Tech where he went 112-55 and competed for the national championship in 2019.
A former Longhorns team manager under Tom Penders, Beard has gotten off to a fast start at his alma mater. Texas reached the NCAA Tournament and won 22 games in his first season. Texas is 7-1 to start the 2022-23 campaign, having reached as high as No. 2 in the AP Top 25.
CBS Sports will update this breaking news story as more information becomes available.

Stories will get changed, money will trade hands, and by the time it’s all through, the only people punished will be those who told the truth.
-
Sad. I hate reading this but about people I liked it’s worse. Mickey Joseph a few weeks ago, an acquaintance of mine got arrested for the same up in Lincoln which I’m sure you heard about. Pro sports have shown us it’s not a career ender. If you’re talented enough someone will overlook it and go back to giving you millions to play/coach for their team. Often wonder how the victims in those situations feel every time they turn on the TV and see the guy on there pitching, catching, running, shooting, or coaching? It must really be a difficult thing to deal with.
-
@wissox hope hes genuinely sorry and is forgiven by the victim, if thats possible.
-
He does have a player on the team who’s a DV abuser. Did this gf use to coach and lose her job due to abusing players?
-
Looks like i’ll be placing a wager on Rice +25 tonight vs Texas.
-
I don’t know… sure seemed to end Marsha’s career at WSU… and he was very successful there.
-
These spousal abuse cases are tricky. Probably half of the plaintiff’s pull their charges later but now that doesn’t necessarily end the legal situation as DA’s have prosecution roaming powers these days because of the issue with plaintiff’s being strong-armed into dropping charges.
If the evidence is strong, Beard should be in very deep, regardless of his attorney’s language.

Confirmed the victim was a woman.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 - lots of folks in Lansing feel the same way…
-
Just said on Austin tv that an assistant coach is filling in for the ALLEGED strangler. Mug shot posted. Red faced and smarmy grin, almost as if knows he’ll be out soon because of ‘the good ol white boys’ money that is the face of UT Austin. GOOD RIDDANCE.
-
@BShark Wow. There was a lot of buzz that it was the daughter’s boyfriend. So that’s interesting.

If you notice on the mugshot, it’s like they let him fix his hair, etc. Maybe they gave him some Visine.
-
Just saw the zoom w/the da judge. Beard in handcuffs. Pretty sad.
-
Per twitter, Beard has been suspended indefinitely with no pay. Very good chance he doesn’t coach again for UT.

He better be TOAST.
-
No excuse for Texas now…
-
“An attorney for Beard denied the accusations in comments made to the Statesman.
“Coach Beard is 100 percent innocent of these charges,” attorney Perry Minton said. “He should never have been arrested. The complainant wants him released immediately and all charges dismissed. It is truly inconceivable.”
NY Post today
-
Texas had to go to OT with Rice to win.
-
@Gorilla72 Perry Minton (attorney representing) is the son of a much bigger (fatter) father who was the attorney that represented some of the most despicable people in government and was paid handsomely for getting them acquitted. Like father like son.
Side note, today is the day Max Falkenstein died in 2019. Forever the voice of who KU was in all aspects for me.
-
Beard won’t coach again for Texas. He’s gone.
