Urban Meyer not ready for primetime

Dancing?
-
Where were his hands?
-
@Marco I guess I don’t get the outrage (from anyone who isn’t his wife). He did something embarrassing to him and his family, but people are treating it like he sexually assaulted someone.

@Crimsonorblue22 Considering that it is starting to look and feel like he might be terminated after this season if not sooner after this latest episode, I hope that he atleast grabbed her ass. I’m joking, don’t get all upset
But to answer your question, he basically allowed himself to be compromised with a photo of him getting a half-assed lap dance. The guy is all but toast, a constant lack of judgement machine.
-
Meyer probably wasn’t the best choice for the Jacksonville job to begin with, so him being an enormous failure is no real surprise. How much of an embarrassment he becomes before he is terminated is the only real question left.
-
He really should never coach again, tbqh

Agree. Coaches should be held to the same standard as players.
-
Who amongst us hasn’t tried to finger blast someone 30 years younger at the bar /s
-
@FarmerJayhawk lol. I only thought about it (no photo), didn’t act it out. Yet even if I had done so, I wouldn’t be leading a millions of dollars per year football team, right?
-
I won’t attempt to justify this guy’s vices, but I don’t see this as being the news that people should care about. Seems like a distraction from real problems. If you want to go after bad behavior that actually is f***ing everyone else on this planet and not just this girl at a bar, there are plenty of people doing just that. It’s not like this guy is the president of the United States. He’s a head coach of America’s greatest gladiatorial sport. It’s ok to bash each other’s brains in, but not engage in extra marital affairs? Seriously, I don’t care at all whether Urban Meyers off the clock activities are virtuous.

I mean it’s fine to talk about it, I just don’t see any point in deriving whether he’s a good or bad person. At the end of the day, what does that matter unless you’re a Jacksonville Jaguar fan? I assume those exist.
-
I used to care about whether people were virtuous. Then we lived through Donald Trump and are slogging through COVID. Clearly, there are a good number of people who lack basic virtues. Don’t need to look to Florida for a beacon of crazy!

Yes. He should have been toast even before he was hired on at Jacksonville. @approxinfinity he is not a good person, that is my point. Had I owned the Jaguars, I would have never even hired him.

I think I’m just complaining. Don’t mind me. There are only a few subjects that interest me at the moment. Space exploration, Chelsea, USMNT and soccer strategy.

Did anyone other than myself love the Owen Wilson Bezos cowboy hat space exploration skit on SNL?

@Marco Richard Branson was great.

Remember, he lied about the circumstances, and lied about having just been standing there innocently when the woman came up to him for a supposed 7 second interaction to which he said he did not respond (disregard that ass groping). And he had gone there when he bailed on his 0-4 team for the flight home just when any good coach would have provided some needed leadership.
This is a guy who wrote a famous book on owning your response to events–i.e., taking responsibility.
-
@approxinfinity The thing is he has lost the respect of the team once that happens you gotta go.
-
-
@BShark pretty good
-
@approxinfinity if you start a USMNT thread, I would participate. They need more than 5 points in this set of matches

Missing the last WC was PAINFUL.

The problem for Urban Meyer is this isn’t his first (or only) issue.
He had knowledge that one of his assistants at Ohio State was a domestic abuser, but didn’t report it (best case) or helped cover it up (worst case). That alone should have been enough to end his coaching career.
After Iowa fired Chris Doyle for racially biased behavior in June 2020, Meyer hires him to work for on his staff in Jacksonville six months later. He fires him the next day after backlash. That gives us reason to ask SERIOUS questions about his judgment, even if the Zach Smith stuff never happened.
And there’s plenty of other stuff out there, too.
Urban Meyer is a good coach, but terrible about basically every other aspect of leadership, which makes him unfit to be in charge of any organization. Jacksonville should have known that. They ignored that, so whatever embarrassment they get from this, they deserve.
Urban Meyer is who he is, and that means he should not be a head football coach anymore because he lacks the judgment and leadership necessary to fill that role. Full stop.

@mayjay thank you, that’s all I’m saying. He talks about accountability, but by his actions clearly thinks that he should be exempt. Do I make mistakes? Yeah, many… But not like he does, and I’m not a college or NFL coach. They for good reason need to be set at a higher bar.

I’d be interested to know what Tim Tebow thinks about all of this.
