@BShark The guard I would love to pair with Thompson potentially in 21 is Kennedy Chandler. Played with Mokan and is very good. However I think his recruitment is just not the rabbit hole KU can contend in right now.

Think KK goes to Memphis or Duke.

Sallis is definitely the top priority in 21. I’m concerned about what we’re doing up front because we’ll need at least 2 bigs and I’m not sure we’re leading for any as of today. But lots to shake out given these strange times. Info has basically dried up since nobody’s taking visits and its a long dead period.

We are pretty much not getting Kendall Brown either from what I understand. I believe he was Adidas AAU but Sunrise being funded by Nike probably killed us. Virginia is a player here despite not being listed on his 247 profile.

As for bigs like you said it’s harder to get info now. Guessing we can’t beat out OG Wade for Anselem. I just haven’t seen KU linked with many post players in 21.

I’m not super worried about the wing, though Brown is a good player. If we have Wilson, Enaruan, and Tyon we’ll be fine. Even if Tyon leaves for some reason we’ll have Braun as well. Much more concerned about bigs.

  • @FarmerJayhawk I’m not worried about the wing at all just wanted to pass it along.

  • It’s worrisome but we know Bill will find some guys. Obviously we can’t go into a season with Dave and Gethro as the only bigs.

Thought you posted some time back that Brown was our’s to lose?

  • @jayballer73 We were in a strong position previously, yes.

So what happened? - - what changed ?

  • @BShark wasn’t KU seen as the leader for Brown though for quite awhile?

    Offer might be coming here.

    PSA Cardinals…

Could have picked a better AAU program to piss off tbh…

    And there is the offer.

  • @BShark

Nothing lost by offering. Have no idea what bigs we are getting in 21 just know we need multiple guys

  • may have missed this but just curious. Do we have any interest in this kid or not, don’t remember much being said. - -Zach Clemence out of Sunrise in Wichita, 6’9 I think got him ranked as 34th, anybody got anything or is this a BIG nobody from us with no interest what so ever. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

As far as I know KU has major interest.

  • Check posts earlier in the thread. Searching for Clemence is the easiest way, stuff comes right up. Right now we don’t really know as much as we otherwise would because of the COVID situation. Guys can’t do visits, coaches can’t either etc

Post targets will become clear eventually.

ok thanks.- -wonder if the interest is mutual ?

  • @jayballer73 @BShark

Rivals had an article 2 weeks ago about Zach and KU. Since Shay wrote it I would gather he doesn’t have anything ground breaking to report there but its behind the Rivals paywall…

To kind of recap with him. KU was there when he won MVP at Hoophall in January. We were also one of the first schools to reach out as was most of the Big-12. He was at Late Night this past year.

Ohio St recently offered and he’s on their board now. They are also recruiting Kendall Brown his teammate as well.

  • New offer! I like this kid’s game a lot. Very, very skilled https://247sports.com/Player/Efton-Reid-46055252

  • @FarmerJayhawk looks goooood. We have a shot?

  • @BShark said in 2021 Recruiting:

Too early to say. Need to get him on the phone with Dave and sell him on the twin towers of Virginia

  • His evaluation sounded like dave

Just noticed he plays for Team Loaded (same as Frank and Dave). Let’s get it done!

  • UNC offered Sallis. That could be a game changer. Also, Reid could reclassify and if he does I’m thinking UVA or Louisville.

  • sounds about right

  • @BeddieKU23 You know the drill alt text

  • @BShark

Honestly forgot we were targeting Salis. Not a sandbox we can play in.

  • @FarmerJayhawk does not look winnable

  • @BShark said in 2021 Recruiting:

    @FarmerJayhawk does not look winnable

It looks like, as @jayballer73 astutely pointed out in the 22 thread, we’re going after a different type of guy these days. I think Bill saw what he had last year and was like OH. This could be fun.

And with OAD all but officially over with the new G League contracts it makes sense. We’ll still get our Bryce Thompson’s and others, but as far as top 10 recruits go I say steer clear. Build the bench and solidify the starting 5 with KC players and the occasional Wichita recruit, as well as adding nationwide ones such as Frank and Devonte (Gethro fitting that mold for next season).

There’s not enough local talent to keep KU competitive at a national level. KU would have to land every local player to have any chance at being competitive which isn’t going to happen as long as MoKan is the dominant AAU team in the area.

KU lands a local talent every other year on average with varying degrees of success.

KU is a national brand in basketball and with the new rules on players selling themselves, KU needs to market the exposure a potential recruit can get at KU to land top players.

  • Looks like we offered Dajuan Harris’s twin bro https://247sports.com/Player/Rahsool-Diggins-46056543/

  • @FarmerJayhawk looks solid.

Staff apparently did video visits with Brown and Bates today.

  • Mercy Coach Self & Staff REALLY BUSY this week. 5 offers going out since Wednsday. 3 offers to 2021 PG’S & 2 offers to the class of 2022 PF’S

Then the last PG offered this week is - - Nolan Hickman , other offers include : Oklahoma , Wasahington , Washington St , & Cal Poly. - he is out of East Catholic Washington. - - Staff been really really busy. - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Welp. We have seen that sandbox play out

  • @BeddieKU23 we have landed guys from IMG. Could be a good move.

  • I love it for Tamar. Don’t really think it hurts our chances. If it was Sallis I’d be like oh ish

  • @BShark said in 2021 Recruiting:

KU has landed 2 recruits straight out of IMG. Both of them have been issues for KU in regards to eligibility. Jamari Taylor was academically ineligible his first year at KU and Silvio DeSousa’s suspension was originally 2 years and KU’s probably going to end up forfeiting its 2018 Final Four banner because of DeSousa.

Not exactly a great track record of IMG players at KU.

  • Kansas just got a commitment from the class of 2021 Zachary clemence out of Sunrise Christian Academy out of Wichita Kansas hes Height is 6’10 205 lbs pf

  • RCJH

  • Very nice pickup for Bill and the staff. Kid has been on the come up in the rankings. Hopefully this helps with Brown as well, and opens the door for KU at Sunrise.

He is very skilled and should be around multiple years. Love this commitment. Needed a big badly too.

  • WOW. Huge commitment out of left field…Zach has upped his game tremendously in the past year at Sunrise. Think Matthew Hurt in terms of comparison. Can really shoot the ball from the perimeter at his size. Watched Several Sunrise games this past season and came away impressed with his ability.

  • Hearing things have improved with KB as well. Great day for crootin.

  • Well that came out of nowhere. Niiiice.

Why do you say Mokan being the dominant AAU team in KC is a detriment to KU? KU has 3 Mokan players now. Do you know of any high profile players at Mokan now that we are/should be recruiting?

Kennedy Chandler, but we can’t play in that sandbox and his focus is on swooosh.

MoKan is a top Nike AAU program and they tend to funnel their top prospects to Nike programs. The general lack of interest from their elite recruits in KU is evidence of that. Trae Young is their only elite recruit that’s ever seriously considered coming to KU and he still ended up at Oklahoma. KU generally recruits MoKan’s top prospects, interest has generally not been reciprocated because MoKan is a top Nike AAU program and KU is not a Nike school.

Ochai Agbaji was the first MoKan player to ever commit to KU. None of the 3 players KU has landed were highly regarded. Harris who was barely a top 100 player is the highest rated of those players.
