So here is a question after tonight

  • So this might sound crazy /bizarre probably is but I’ll ask anyways.

After tonight’s debacle will this I ANY way, with the NCAA investigation going on with other things at KU - -will this tonight feed fuel to the fire about the part of KU & Self in lack of institutional control ? Having Control of his players? - -I know and sorry just wondering I mean I dunno really just asking thinking in the Eye’s of the NCAA - -it might. Anyone ? - - ROCK CHALK ALLD AY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer73 No one knows except those in the NCAA offices. One would hope that those in power would use common sense and realize that a coach cannot be in control of every players’ actions and behaviors at all times. Too many instances of players losing control of their emotions for the NCAA to label all coaches as not having institutional control.

  • This picture is disgusting. I think that Silvio is done.

  • Yep Sadly I think that picture ruins him… he initially started to defend himself as two k state guys came after him and started the fight, then he threw punches, then picked up the stool. Thank god the people nearby with jerrance Howard pulled the stool away. The stool looks soooo damn bad. Sigh

  • I wonder if Silvio or Love will be punished more heavily? I hope the Big12 hurries up and announces the punishment so fans can back away from the ledge. Lol

  • Silvio made several mistakes. Not just one. It’s a list.

Maybe his actions exposed his lack of connecting with his team and the knowledge of what it is to be a Jayhawk. Does anyone recognize his actions as a Jayhawk? I think not. Silvio’s background culture probably plays a huge role in this.

The KSU guy who stole the ball… that was silly and below us to respond. We have no control over what happens to that guy or the guy off the bench who thought he was Mike Tyson. Those guys are K-State’s problem. We care about Kansas and the real question coming is if Silvio should remain a Jayhawk, period.

The chair graphic will stick with Kansas forever. Think about that. It is a sad day for us and it will be something we will always be challenged with.

I suggest the authorities at Kansas step up and go on the positive addressing everything relating to game security. Get out and lead the country on this topic because we wear the black armband forever with that graphic.

  • I’m with D’tae on this one. Yes, HCBS and Long have to say all the right things, but that doesn’t mean KU fans have to be “embarrassed” or ashamed. That’s freakin’ lame.

The punk who stole the ball had it coming from Silvio to volleyball spike his layup attempt. And yes, Silvio deserved a technical for standing over him. That stuff happens every night at all levels of basketball.

And then Silvio was trying to get back on the court when he was assaulted by the crazy KSU bench player in warmups. That dude rushed Silvio and attacked him (wearing glasses no less!! :-D). Silvio was forced to defend himself. Unfortunately, the crazy bench player took the action into the seats behind the basket.

In my opinion, the ONLY thing Silvio did wrong was pick up the chair, which he dropped on his own back once he figured out it was not a good idea. No one took it away from him, as the East coast media on ESPN reported. Jerrance Howard was in the immediate vicinity, but he didn’t pull it from Silvio.

I think Silvio should get five games suspension, max. And that’s it. IF anything else, maybe McCormick gets one game.

Silvio just let his anger get the best of him after being punked twice by two different wildcats. Yes, in hindsight, he no doubt wishes he walked away after power-blocking the guys layup. I totally understand why Self said the things he did in post-game, but I actually think Squeaky’s presser was more appropriate.

  • Maybe it’s my background in comms and dealing with press for a living, but am I the only one who doesn’t give a rats ass what the media says about KU and thinks KU shouldn’t take their opinions into account AT ALL when deciding punishment? Sure there’s that out of context photo, but the video is much less damning if people would just watch it (https://imgur.com/a/5znZHdo). ESPN doesn’t run KU. CBS doesn’t run KU. Twitter doesn’t run KU. The state of Kansas runs KU. Tell the press they can shove it with their hot takes and we’ll run the show like adults. Yes, there will obviously be consequences for dumbassery. But suggesting this is the end for Silvio and whatnot is absolutely without merit IMO. Would break all precedent from previous dumbassery and wouldn’t serve anyone but the press’s appetite for blood.

  • We can choose to dwell on this as a black mark forever, it’s certainly been a bad year. As far as behavior, this group has been pretty remarkable, considering what we had in the past few years. Silvio really screwed up! But he got the T. Then KSU bench came after him, he lost it. There are different views that show that. Silvio has never been in any trouble and most fans have stood by him while he sat out. He never used the chair, he might have? He didn’t. I would not call our guys thugs. Our coaches got in there, I saw Bruce on the fringe. Maybe we need to run up the score. Sick of that crap!

  • @FarmerJayhawk Amen to that! Eff Dick Vitale and others on ESPN.

There is one video where you can practically see the light come back on in Silvio’s eyes/brain as he let the stool drop… an “Oh crap, what am I doing?” moment.

  • There are a lot of false statements going around today. I just watched a video on ESPN where Stephen A Smith said that Silvio accepted a $2500 payment from a booster. No one at his round-table rant knew the truth to correct him that an Adidas rep paid Silvio’s guardian $2500. Smith also said that an assistant coach had to rip the chair from Silvio’s hands. Again, no one corrected him. Our administration needs to defend these players a little bit because they are getting slaughtered in the media.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 That little clip is just so reminiscent of all the replays to see who touched it last. It was within the last 2 minutes of the game so it’s definitely reviewable.

Yup. It gets worse closer to home. https://www.kansascity.com/opinion/editorials/article239536503.html

  • Kansas Embarasment strikes:

    • Adidas Money; We good? - Strike 1

    • Snoop Dogg - Strike 2

    • Brawl - Strike 3

    Not a good 19-20

  • @SlickRockJayhawk Paying a minor’s guardian is the same thing as paying a minor. Not something to get concerned about. The point is it was dirty.

  • @HighEliteMajor From KU’s perspective yeah, but not really the same for the minor. The focus is on Silvio and there is definitely a difference if Silvio didn’t know about the payment.

  • To echo @Crimsonorblue22, we have very high character guys on this team it would appear. Remember when the Monmouth punk stole ball and screamed? Enaruna just calmly ignored it. Dotson is really cool. Garrett always a player to be proud of. Agbaji perhaps the perfect demeanor. Braun is also impressive. Doke has had a few flexing, posing, standing over opponent incidents. Hope this gets him going the other way. Sad that this happened with this great group of guys.

@benshawks08 We should not assume he didn’t know. I’m not believing anyone much that has an interest in this, and certainly not Self. What about the UA payment?

  • @HighEliteMajor Why should we presume guilt of Silvo? Agree that Self has lost credibility but seems plausible that a non-familial guardian of a high level athlete might not have the athlete’s interests 1st. Not saying that’s what happened for sure but we certainly don’t KNOW what Silvio did or didn’t know about.

Agree about the high character guys on this team. I’ve found it odd that some folks have had trouble enjoying this team or finding reasons to root for em. Lots to love still on this team.

  • @benshawks08 Agree we don’t know. I’m just not presuming that he didn’t know.

  • Guess I’m just a callous SOB, could care less about a picture. Not like he did anything with the stool. I stand with DeSousas!

  • I think that’s BS! We are not trying to score after a game is decided or stealing a ball after the game is decided. Those coaches need to get their players under control!

  • @Crimsonorblue22 I guess next time we’ll just run up the score and don’t stop until the buzzer. Apparently that’s how class acts finish games.
