2020 Recruiting

  • Beard was definitely paying attention under Knight, for sure. Wasn’t that his mentor, Bobby Knight? All of of those switches and that D.

  • I read this from a poster off the phog. - -He had this for NEXT year’s line up. - -Said he would like to see - Can’t say I really disagree - - think it looks pretty goo to me. - -It went like this :

    Pg : - - -Garrett/ Harris Sg :- - - Thompson / Braun Sf :- - - Agbaji ? Grant Foster Pf :- - - Enaruna ? Wilson C :- - - McCormack / Lightfoot

I could live with that. - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Awesome! It should get better too. Foster started as a 3 star 0.9000 and a few weeks ago went to 0.9100. Not a huge increase by any means but shows potential to keep increasing.

I just noticed that Foster’s score increased again to 0.9250. Good for him. Did Gethro’s drop? Not that it matters really.

It probably did. Gethro is the lowest rated big we’ve signed since 2012. Thankfully he will not really be needed next year and he can put on muscle.

Shot fake! Knight’s 2 favorite words.

  • We have an open scholarship? No, Harris got it

We do actually. We were full then McBride quit.

  • @BShark well?

Zero chance we are even recruiting Kyree at this point.

  • Not sure where this even came from. - -if you look on his updated list of Schools off 247 Ku is not even listed

    Why?

  • @dylans Bill isn’t an idiot like Memphis. That’s my theory.

@FarmerJayhawk is KU even recruiting him?

They’ll check in but I believe he’s going pro. Jalen Wilson’s injury might change their calculus a bit from earlier. We only have 9 bodies now so I’d take a flier.

Is he toxic for some reason I missed? I just thought he was a euro flight risk.

  • Got a response on Walker. Likely Arkansas. No team overseas really bit and they’re definitely not interested in signing him mid-season. Doesn’t mean he’ll play college ball but can’t see KU making much of a play here unless we just absolutely need a guy.

  • @FarmerJayhawk Can he shoot? If so KU needs a guy if the 4-1 is going to be a staple. This team is short handed in the guard position. IMHO

Interesting to offer after getting Bryce. Is this a real offer?

  • Here’s a response to a question from good ol’ Cory Evans about what’s going on with Walker.

Your guess is as good as mine. Kyree Walker, a four-star wing, left Hillcrest Prep in Arizona last month with the hope of enrolling in college between semesters. Word is that he is already fully qualified and that if he does choose a school in the coming weeks he would have two options. He could enroll and then redshirt for the remainder of the college season - similar to what Hamidou Diallo did three years ago - before seeing his eligibility begin in the fall of 2020. The other avenue he could take is to enroll and begin to play immediately, similar to what we saw with Austin Wiley four years ago.

Arkansas has been the most discussed landing spots for Walker, but there could be a few others that could become involved including Kansas, Memphis and Michigan. It seems that, for now, the idea of choosing the professional path has come and gone for this winter, and his likeliest option is college at the turn of the calendar year.

  • These guys have nothing to actually report. Arkansas is full up on scholarships right now.

  • @BShark Just saw this. Makes no sense to me. Doesn’t even seem like he is a P5 type of player let alone Kansas. Interesting for sure.

  • @Woodrow Looked into him some more. Obviously undersized but can shoot it. At the last 16 AAU games he was 35/42 FT, 20/45 from three and 33/47 on 2 point attempts. Decent athleticism, can dunk with relative ease. 32 assists and 7 turnovers.

  • Just seeing CJ’s story on Bryce. Self really texted his Dad “we good” OMG!! That has me dying.

    Uhhh. Good question.

  • Late bloomer type who’ll stick if ish hits the fan. Has some tools. Just tiny.

Guessing this happens pretty quick. Same AAU as Gethro.

Oh my friend Kyree can DO IT ALL - -he is a beast - play 4 different positions - -they have stated he is a untitiled position player - flat out serious hops drive to the hole - -hit the /jay - I REALLY wanted him bad to come - -then people started talking about him going over sea’s - and now I guess we just not interested. - -he isn’t the plague or problem child or anything like that but I guess we just have moved on - -I would still take him in a heart beat

  • KK Robinson is not signing in the early period. Wonder if the staff will keep tabs on him even with signing Bryce.

do you think we are really serious with this guy? - -I mean we are going to have Harris next year also - - seems funny

Nifty. My read is he’s basically Mackey 2.0. I like KK better but appears that ship has sailed.

  • @FarmerJayhawk I think anyone would but he appears Arkansas bound. Lot of guards on the roster to try and add KK when he will want pt.

  • KU is still actively recruiting KK Robinson fwiw. Arkansas however is the favorite. Plans to announce near the end of November.

I just don’t really think to much of a chance now with Bryce being here, ad Harris into the mix next year. I know people will say don’t think Harris being in the mix is going to come into play that much , and not really sure how they gonna play Bryce, - -are we playing Bryce as a Combo - - or are we going to insert him as a PG ? - I just don’t have much confidence in landing him. - However I read somewhere that they said Arkansas was at it’s limit - -couldn’t swear to that but what was stated.

Having a hard time figuring out this out. They currently have 6 guards on the roster.

    Guards: Harris, Thompson

    Guard-ish: Garrett, Braun

    Wings/4s: Agbaji, Enaruna, Wilson

Never hurts to have more actual guards as we have seen this year.

Starting at point guard a Freshman from Columbia Missouri, number 3…Dajuan Harrrrrisssssss.

He will get the KU bump and be a 4 star by the time it is all said and done 🙂

Looking at his tape I am not sure why he lacks at least mid-major offers tbh.

KU has been his dream since middle school so this is pretty cool.

    Oh hi.

Is it me ? - - this just seems bizarre, weird - -almost like we offering for a body. - -I think might of mis used this Scholi- - unless we playing Thompson as a combo - which he competes with Oachi - - -then Harris and this kid a PG - just kind of a head scratcher for me.

Couldn’t we have used this Scholi for like a grad transfer or another Big possibly - -can’t quite figure this out

  • @jayballer73 That is my thought. I would have saved this for a grad transfer. This day and age there a high level kids year in and year out that can make a huge difference. This kid will transfer out in a year or two.

I don’t get it from watching his tape. Good finisher with both hands. Stroke looks good. Gets to the rim at will.

Now it’ll take him a minute at this level I think. But he’s definitely at least mid-major good.

  • A few things…

Good point from FAN214 let’s wait and see how he does. The staff seems to be high on him. We don’t know if he will wash out, maybe he has a Lucas/Mitch level love for the program. From what I’ve heard this is pretty close to the case. But you never know how kids react to Bill until they are on the team and at practices. We heard all the right things about McBride and he quit on the team. The good news is it’s not like we are counting on this kid for anything right away. He has time to improve.

Plus right now of all times I find it hard to take shots at any kid that still wants to be a Jayhawk.

@Kcmatt7 Respectable AAU numbers maybe they were quite bad before last circuit, idk. Reaaaally hope we find out more after his commitment. There could be any number of reasons why he was under-recruited. For whatever anyone wants to say about Garrett he is a D1 level player and was almost invisible before KU got involved. There has to be a story with this kid.

Bill Self and undersized athletic point guards, name a more iconic duo.

  • Quote from Bill on the current class

“I thought it was more important this year than most just because of the unknown that waits out there,” Self said. “And I don’t mean unknown as being bad, unknown can be positive. You just don’t know when this will be concluded. … To have three guys like this jump on board now I think is a pretty strong move on their part, but also, more importantly, it helps us out and changes in my opinion what has been a fairly negative narrative that has been put out about us.”

“There’s been a lot of years, a lot of years, where during the fall period we [don’t] even have what’s thought to be a highly, nationally-ranked class,” Self said. “And I’m not saying this ranks up there with [the Andrew Wiggins, Joel Embiid, Wayne Selden class], but I do think considering everything that’s happened, I think it’s a terrific class. All three were our main targets. I don’t think we could have recruited better than we did at the respective positions that we were recruiting.”
