Border War Renewed

  • KU has nothing to gain from this - -like others have said this is truly all about money - -it’s all about the revenue aspect.

From that stand point as a KU person - - why in the hell would I want one red penny going to that piece of crap School - - not one single plug nickel - -PERIOD. - -ya we gonna be sharing the profit revenue from this game - but if it were up to me these people wouldn’t get zilch - - nadda – zero - - NOTHING - they wanted out of the Big 12 - -wanted to dis-associate - good you did that, NOW that it’s happened why as a member of the Conference you wanted out of - -thought you was gaining by joining the all mighty SEC - -why should we have ANYTHING to do with you? - - why should we allow you to gain anything from playing us? - -don’t give me that rival crap - - rivals come - - rivals go at the end of the Day - were still KU - -were still in the Big 12.

Other then KU gaining some revenue you bring us NOTHING other then just being a pain in our ass.- – -Mizzery sure does nothing for the prestige of our program from a National perspective - -you seriously think it’s raising people’s eye brows if KU kicks Mizzery’s ass in Basketball? – if you do then let me take a hit off that pipe your smoking must be some really good stuff - Could you imagine ESPN using KU beating Mizzery in Basketball - ESPN using that as their lead story – OH shocking KU beat Mizzery in Basketball - -lmao – they do nothing to help us in that perspective.

Beating playing Mizzery doesn’t help us anymore in recruiting by playing their sorry ass - - it would not help us that much more if ANY in the recruiting area of the game - - we already do quite well enough and very much hold our own in that area with out having to play these idiots. - just do NOTHING - - -NOTHING in playing these guys from KU’S standpoints but for SOME KU fans to beat their chests /bragging rights - - -and actually beating Mizzery really isn’t a whole hell of a lot to Brag about. - -they bring nothing to the table from the SEC - -constantly getting their butts stomped in the SEC - - how gratifying is it to beat an also ran from the SEC ?

Sure now if we play and they beat us - -then they just wet all over themselves - thinking they have just won the NCA tourney - -cause in reality that’s just about as close as they are going to get to winning the NCAA tourney - -THEN I could see ESPN using that as a lead - -but they sure do nothing to help us on the National scale in any area – you create new rivals - Mizery is in the past - - old as dust - -time to move on - -nothing worth while to see here. – ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @Woodrow Twitter pole I read, as reported by Matt Tait actually shows 66% of fans in favor, as am I.

It’s a no brainer good idea. A game to circle on the calendar every year. A game to look forward to. Although I try to watch every KU game, this one would draw more interest than a matchup against one of this years lightweights like whatever directional tennessee school we’re playing.

  • @jayballer73 The game is for the fans. I want to watch us play good schools. The media will talk about this one. The last time we played them was a big national story.

  • Money is something to gain. If BMDs hated it they could have donated a lot to prevent it.

    I’m all for it honestly.

If you want to watch us play against a good school – then you need to keep on looking - -this isn’t the one for you

  • @BShark Dumb question… what does BMD stand for?

ok, if we get 100% of the Revenue - - count me in - -if one red penny goes to these idiots – OUT

@Kcmatt7 What does KU gain from this? Sure it is great for some of the fanbase that want to see the game played, but there are a lot of fans that do not.

Mizzou is irrelevant in the KC Metro area now that they are in the SEC. This game changes that. Also, there program is never talked about nationally and very rarely on national TV. This game changes that. I just fail to see how this game does anything for the KU program. It is not even arguable that this game does FAR more for Mizzou than it does for KU.

Mizzou being "irrelevant in the “Metro Area” is laughable and one of the weirdest false claims people seem to be making. It’s like they don’t even venture East of state line. Mizzou is still well represented in KC…

One game a season is not going to change Mizzou’s national status in basketball. Even if it is nationally televised.

Not playing our biggest rival every single season is stupid. It’s what makes college sports more fun.

Who cares if someone gets more gain than the other? Are we actually so petty that we’re going to hold a grudge for forever and ruin one of the best sports rivalries that exist?

Do you listen to sports talk Radio? How often do you hear Mizzou discussed compared to KU and KSU. It is not even close. It is not a false claim at all. I am out and about all the time in KC and I don’t hardly ever see or hear people talking about Mizzou.

It is plain and simple really. KU as a program gains literally nothing from playing this game. You as a KU fan might, but not the program.

Mizzou is always going to be apart of the city. It is the premier college in Missouri far and away. To think otherwise is silly. They will ALWAYS have a base of alumni in KC because of this.

If tons of money and extra exposure are literally nothing, than sure, KU gains literally nothing.

But I think you (and others) are blowing this WAY out of proportion. It is a single game a season against a program we have notoriously dominated.

Can you tell me what you see as the downside of this? Because I guess that’s what I’m not seeing… KU is a program built on tradition. Nothing about 1 game a season is going to change that.

  • rockchalkwyo said:

@BShark Dumb question… what does BMD stand for?

Big money donors. I bet they were all for it. They can hang out in the suites at Sprint and not have to deal with fans.

  • BShark said:

    I’m all for it honestly.

I’d imagine significant amounts of money for just one game too…

Between Williams Fund donations increasing, season ticket price increases, TV rights, and whatever else they can sneak in, we’re talking probably over $1M for just one game for each team.

  • Just my opinion, and everyone in here has the right to their opinions… but I’m glad the rivalry is back!

Is it worth it? Do we gain from this?

Let me put it this way… how many of you, regardless of what side you take, will circle the MU game every year?

Right… every single person in here will! It’s a game that matters. Sports is so much about rivalries…

Well, some opinions are right and yours is right.

No law against wrong opinions though, thankfully … at least not yet.

  • I love the “opinions” that the rivalry doesn’t do anything for us.

It is the one rivalry that I’ve been a part of as a fan, along with Royals/Yankees in the late 70s, that has bordered on hatred. With perspective, I don’t really “hate” MU. I do “hate” them in the sports arena. Without perspective, as a kid, I felt that I really hated the Yankees (and MU at the time).

What does it do? It gets the blood flowing. It creates great enjoyment and great disappointment. That’s being alive. And yes, we were all quite alive when we won that last game at AFH in 2012 vs. MU. And we were quite devastated when we lost in OT in 1997. I found myself during that 2017 scrimmage wanting to win that more than any other upcoming regular season game. Live and enjoy.

Something that was unjustly taken from us has been returned.

that’s 1 mill to much for them - -like they were just saying on the local sports talk radio.

They left the conference for quote business reasons - -more exposure - - not having to deal with Texas anymore - -sure doesn’t help our strength of Schedule - - doesn’t polish up our Tourney resume -by far - - - by FAR does more for them then us - - why would I want to do that? - -they left - -good do what you want to do - -but for them to come back now and want some action - - - ummmm NO

  • @jayballer73 So then we’ll kick their tails. It’s a game I will look forward to every year. My memory of playing Missouri was it was never a guaranteed win. That will still hold true i believe, especially now that they have a decent coach. Cuonzo Martin is a man I’ve always enjoyed watching, all the way back to his high school playing days in Illinois.

If Missouri is a crap school then we’re a crap school because they’re just about evenly ranked academically according to US News and World Report. I hate them just as much as the next Jayhawk fan, they’re right down there with the Packers, and Cubs, just below the Yankees on my hatred scale. But I want to play them.

  • @Kcmatt7 as has been said by multiple people KU basketball doesn’t need national exposure. They don’t need to play Mizzou. This game is going to do far more for Mizzou basketball then it does for Ku basketball. It will get ESPN game day talking about them giving them exposure that they would not have had without this game.

What does KU the program gain from this??

Mizzou sucks at basketball. So everyone saying it is better than playing XYZ school is it really? This isn’t going to bolster KU resume for the tournament.

I watch every single KU game so I am not going to circle this game. I look forward to playing Duke, UK, Villanova, Sparty, etc… will I watch the game sure like I said I watch all of them.

  • @Woodrow Football

  • @jayballer73 as long as we r a top big 12 team and they are a bottom sec team, no! Mizzou didn’t even play the last few yrs.

  • Bad opinions everywhere …

We have to associate ourselves with the slavers again. Weakens our strength of schedule since we always play a better team than them at Sprint. It costs a lot of money to disinfect Allen Fieldhouse. And we have to associate ourselves with the slavers again. This is like going back to your desperate ex who ran over your dog and gave you the clap.

  • Here’s what is going to happen: KU will beat the tar out of the Slavers in all 6 games. The NCAA will rule that KU is too good and should be punished by vacating all the wins in the series.

  • I look forward to reviewing this thread in 6 years. Should be interesting to see how it plays out… and to see if which motivation for reviving the rivalry looks most likely in hindsight.

Don’t you know MU likes to claim Missouri was really anti-slavery? That the Tigers nickname came from a group abolitionists in or around Columbia — all 10 of them.

I heard MU’s AD say today that those KU crackers be shakin’ now with the border war coming back, or maybe I misunderstood?

My guess is MU fans at every bar in the state are estatic. Meth on the house!

Word is the state legislature in Missouri is disappointed because now they’ll have to actually pay to re-pave I-70 between KC and Columbia.

But the MU fans are wary. Worried that they have, once again, shot themselves in the foot, Stipo style. Or that a camera might catch another athlete in the act — you know, finger in nose, object excised, insert in mouth. What do you use to Chase that? Natty light? Ask Eustachy.

I hear some oppressed rich kid is going to go on a fake hunger strike to protest our appearance at Paige arena even if the cause is fictional. Find a professor to call for some “muscle” to protect him just in case.

One thing though. We know we will never be a game on the way to an MU final four. Over a century of incompetence assures us of that. But each day the coaches drive on Champions Drive. Like naming a street after Casper the friendly ghost. Fictional and lacking substance.

That 1964 indoor track championship remains the shining light for a self proclaimed softball school. And has been the shining light for now for over five decades. Quite an accomplishment to be sure.

MU fled to the SEC because they couldn’t spell BCS if you spotted them the B and the S. Though they’d recognize that scent. Just don’t mention the smell of oranges.

  • About time. Everybody makes money. Now do football.

  • And then there’s this. Why do we associate ourselves with this trash? https://twitter.com/ComfortablySmug/status/1187149678804193280

  • I’m disappointed. My distant relations in NE KS that were MU fans were beginning to watch KU for lack of options and the MU garb was disappearing. Damn, it’s back. Might as well schedule WSU as long as the money grab is in.

    @dylans NOOOOO … a thousand times NO (re WSU)😱

  • Heard this move was all Bill.

  • I’ve been thinking about this more and more since its been announced…Yep still love the idea. I hope football joins, I miss the intense games. The KSU rivalry isn’t really a rivalry. KSU has won like 90% of the football games since 1990 and KU has done the same in Basketball. That and being in state, it’s like beating our little brother when he gets cocky. My hatred for Fizzou goes far beyond athletics. The worst place I’ve ever been in this country is Springfield, Missouri or Columbia, Missouri. Abouslutely zero diversity, zero teeth, an abundance of meth and incest. Sadly that isn’t an exaggeration.

  • Speaking of teeth or lack there of. Missouri did invent the toothbrush, because if it was invented anywhere else it would be a teethbrush.

  • They left the Big12, so I don’t really care if we play them or not. Tradition meant nothing to them, so (“not all of them wanted to leave the Big12, Marco!”) why should we renew the series. They’ve been nothing special since the days of Norm - coach is right, we stand to gain nothing from it (Machiavelli).

  • Marco said:
