2020 Recruiting

  • @jayballer73

Just a hunch. Visiting his “dream school” on a football weekend should be a good atmosphere and good visit for him. I don’t know whether they tried to get him to visit later (like for Late Night) or closer to the signing period so I’m just connecting dots that he might be closer to a decision and if the visit goes well might end in our favor.

Having seen the kid play this past year on TV I wouldn’t call him elite at anything. He definitely is in the mold of a Diallo or a Oscar Tschiebwe. He is a bit raw offensively but is active and gets up and down the floor, plays above the rim and can definitely alter and block shots at a very good rate. He’s definitely someone Self likes to have on the roster

  • @FarmerJayhawk Gotcha. I took it as you thought KU was just window dressing.

Bryce Thompson is cutting his list of schools tonight at 7 per his Twitter.

KU, UNC, OU, OSU, Michigan St, window dressing, window dressing

You don’t think KU has a shot with Thompson?

Oh, I definitely do! Like @jayballer73 said, it’s just my guess for his list. I know those 5 will be on it, not sure on the other 2. I think KU, UNC, and Okie Lite are the top 3, not sure on the order. Earlier this summer it looked like it would be KU or UNC and he’d commit before school started, but now it looks like he’ll take 5 officials and decide around the early signing period.

ya thanks glad I wasn’t wrong lol. – Agree with you I think it’s still gonna be us 3 probably - - really little more worried about Okie St now - I mean not OVERLY worried but still - -also like you said I had been hearing a lot about UNC but yet not as much lately

I was wondering the way they was describing him - -was wonder about the other kid from WV - the shot blocker Konate? - would be nice - -you think he compares to him any at all? - -they talk about how he has a high motor runs all the time curious?

  • Dam I swear to God - - all the Phog has become is one Giant Cluster F - - - . - -these idiots on threads for the most part all they do is trade insults at one another that has NOTHING to do about the thread - -like one said Oh I’m sorry I thought this thread was on 2020 recruiting - - carry on - -Couldn’t agree more with him - -I mean come on , at one time you could find some helpful insight - - -not any more - - just sad. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

I wish I felt more confident with Bryce for us. - - I think we have our work cut out for us with the Oklahoma schools - – Especially Okie State , even more with them then Lonnie BUT you never know.

Not saying we can’t and won’t get his commitment but just don’t have a solid feel as of yet anyways. Okie State scares me on this one , I think if they get that other kid what - -Cunningham? - -could be trouble for us if that happens with Bryce talk of them being a package at Okie St. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Gethro Muscaden 6’10 Center - -visiting KU on Sept 20th - - - -scheduled for K-State on the 6th of Sept - -and Texas Tech on the 5th of October. - - - UNLV , U Conn , VCU , New Mexico also recruiting him

  • DawsonGarcia ( I would love to get this kid ) - -was at Minnesota last Night - -along with Ty Berry - -I don’t think we are going to have much to do with Ty - just don’t think we are that big of factor with him.

Saw where Maddy is Splitting his Visit this weekend - -Going to be here at KU this Weekend AND also Memphis this Weekend.

Bryce is at Texas this Weekend, then will visit North Carolina the 6-8th of Sept - - -then - - Okie St the 27 th - 29th of Sept - -KU on Oct 4th ( un-official ) - -Michigan St the 25th-27th of Oct - -even though Texas Tech didn’t make his list of - -t final - -they say that Bryce may very well visit Tech

Said they had planned on committing early - -but now up in the air – ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABYr. - -

  • @BeddieKU23 My inside source on Adam Miller (his mother) no longer works with me, but her friends tell me KU is no longer his top 5. Two Arizona schools for some rea$on that is a my$tery. If they’re wrong, we’re getting a great player.

  • @jayballer73 We know what happens when they go visit Memphis.

  • I’m sick today, so I might as well post videos.

    Gradey Dick:

  • Love me some Mady:

  • Bryce:

  • @KUSTEVE Boy Mady looks solid - -solid build to him - - I can see where they say he can bully his way in the paint

  • I’m teaching this kid in 8th grade. Let’s lock him up now!

Makes sense why we haven’t heard KU connected with him this summer

If we don’t land him, I’m holding you personally responsible.

  • starting to look like another odd year in getting involved or leading for recruits -were not leading for anyone at this point. - -Going to be another year where we scramble at the end?

Bet on it. Maybe a surprise fall commit but as usual we have uncertainty at some positions with young guys waiting.

  • Welp , starting to look like Mady could end up at Michigan State - -# CB’S have been made SINCE his visit here and all 3 go to - - - -Michigan State

Man things have sure swayed the other way we use to have not nearly as much problem having to sweat out who we gonna be able to get - -Now looks like we have trouble even getting players ranked middle of the pack to come - -have to really work our ass off for that - -I DON’T GET IT

  • Confirmed he never visited Kansas. Michigan St. it is

  • jeez so much for that theory

  • @jayballer73 We’re playing it straight, and they’re not.

  • KUSTEVE said:

I don’t know about that chief.

When it comes down to get some guys, Self will do it.

  • @BShark Well, if he’s paying them, then let’s get Mady…lol.

  • KUSTEVE said:

Too late on that one. Plus I believe Mary is from Mali. Some burned bridges there.

  • Can’t say I care for the way this recruiting has played out now going into this 2nd year - -last minute scrambles and looking that way again this year - - can’t land or having trouble closing on the upper crust - and Now we can’t even get a visit from the middle of the pack players - -WTH. - - ( Got a feeling some other Coach’s doing a good selling job with this NCAA Scandal BS - and possible violations ) either that OR someone on this staff isn’t getting the job done on these kids - -either way this is beginning to suck - -and I do mean suck.

  • Could be we are quite stacked already with many possible returning players from this year’s team. Too many unknowns at this time, and higher ranked prospects want to start, and/or don’t want to be the 7th or 8th player off the bench.

  • @jayballer73 maybe this is what we get building with multi-year guys. Just don’t know where their ceiling is so all tiers wait and see.

    Not worried.

    Great point.

  • Ryan over on the phog had a grim view of 2020 recruiting so far. Hearing crickets on what the staff feels confident in or even has a shot with. It could be all about nothing or spot on.

Very weird that Mady didn’t even follow through on his visit.

All the recent blurbs on Caleb Love are pro UNC.

Bryce Thompson isn’t ending his recruitment anytime soon.

I would be very disappointed if we are in the spring with no commits.

KU recruited at a very high level for a very long time under Self. There’s no question KU has been impacted by the FBI trials and this is the continued fall out. UNC went back to recruiting and landing the Cole Anthony & the Joel Berry’s of the world as soon as the NCAA cleared them in the academic scandal. I fear KU won’t be back to that level until the NCAA does or doesn’t drop the hammer.

I’m not advocating for this but at some point Self may have to shake up his staff. He’s been extremely fortunate to have Norm & T but very few elite programs keep the same staffs these days for extended periods of time. Fresh blood may make a difference as well. Again not saying it should happen but its an option the man in charge can make if he felt recruiting misses were a result of that

  • Louisville OUT on Caleb Love. KU or UNC. Neither would surprise me.

Is that what your hearing or is this posted somewhere? Haven’t had the time to look

Yeah, and we don’t have much choice in doing so. The NCAA needs to remove its head out of its ass and wrap up their so-called investigation. Time for them to admit that they have - even if the judge had allowed access to the everything that in reality, as far as being true evidence, is nothing at all - only speculation and heresay.

I tend to agree with you, have been saying the same for awhile. With Dave returning and, who knows, maybe even Silvio (even Mitch, if he redshirts), along with Enaruna and Wilson, Braun, Garrett and perhaps Agbaji, plus McBride and Harris I am not the least bit worried. Coach will sign a few players, we all know that, and they will be gamers.

If KU gets some Love, a swing big and a combo three point shooting guard that, my friends, would be a solid class.

CB’S now rolling in for JT Thor to Okla State - - look out. - -if they land Cunningham & Thor -those to by themselves is a very solid class - - then if they top it off somehow by managing to get a commit out of Bryce - -which both Okla Schools are in on him really heavy - -IF they land him - - holy crap = =Okie State becomes an instant threat.

  • I’d be stunned if Love ended up anywhere but UNC from what I’ve been reading.

Heard it this morning. Specifically Louisville had moved on to other PG targets. I agree with @BShark UNC is the leader in the clubhouse but it’s not done until the blood dries

  • We made Mady Sissoko’s final four as window dressing

  • And finally, Josh Hall canceled his visit to NC State. Some rumors out there he’ll pop for Louisville but the plan all along has been wait until spring. So we’ll see

  • FarmerJayhawk said:

    Big lols.

This is a weird recruiting period for KU. Honestly doesn’t seem like KU is even trying that hard. But it could just be a product of having many incumbent players and the FBI crap finishing it’s way into the plumbing.

I wouldn’t be mad if the class ended up being something like KK Robinson and a decent looking big then retain everyone but Dot, Doke and Silvio. It’s not a dream scenario but that team would be alright.

  • I was thinking about this earlier. Even if we sign NOBODY (not at all likely) we can start Harris, Garrett, Ochai, Wilson, and McCormack. That’s not a terrible team. Depth obviously would be an issue, but the fact is we don’t need a ton of bodies just to have them. We can be somewhat choosy and take the guys that fit. I think Bryce Thompson is the best fit since he’s the premier scorer among our guard targets and we’re right in the thick of it for him. Heard his leaders are KU, UNC, and OU. This was a week or so ago so idk if anything has changed. We can also wait and see on Isaiah Todd, who’d be a great fit next to Dave. Get those two and it’s a top 5 team again.

  • FarmerJayhawk said:

kind of funny we make his final four when he didn’t even show up for his scheduled visit

  • @FarmerJayhawk Thompson and Todd would be the dream scenario.

You are right though KU doesn’t have to add much so it makes sense to go after high impact players first and foremost.

  • Ok let’s hear the theories - -the educated guesses - -the hunch - -personal opinions - -WHY ? - -why is recruiting seem to be such a struggle these last couple of years.

Not that long ago we were right there head to head battling with the elites - -Duke - - Kentucky -N Carolina’s - -for top flight players

Now looks like it is trending that even Oklahoma St - -Memphis - and just about any other Joe Blow school is beating us out for guys. – Soooo what the hell happened? - -John Q Public wants to know. - -Has Bill lost his luster/edge - - - is his staff getting stale? - -have they lost the fire in their gut? -There is something that just doesn’t seem right. - -I mean NOW were even having trouble getting the 40-5o type ranked players in interest - -Are we focusing on the wrong guys? - - let’s hear from others - -tell me whats going on - -what’s the reasoning as to why this is happening - -it’s looking like we have definitely lost or advantage over the Big 12 , Others are gaining ground - -Texas Tech - - hell Baylor has gotten better - - Thank GOD Shaka can’t Coach worth a tinkers dam - -somehow he is still getting talent to go there - - WHY? - -who the frick knows. - - Somebody enlighten me on what the hell has happened - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Oklahoma State and Memphis are BIG MAJOR players now. Penny changed the game at Memphis.

  • BShark said:

So big that they have made this big of change for KU ?

  • @jayballer73 I think it’s a couple things. Obviously all the federal case BS hurt. @BShark is right, we would’ve gotten commitments from Tucker and Precious if not for Penny acting like he’s Tark the Shark. Another is the blessing/curse of the 2018 class. The staff absolutely killed it that year. Fall commits from Dave, Silvio (who later moved to 2017), Dotson, and Grimes. That essentially built the core and blocked some 2019 guys from playing time. Another is Doke’s injury. If you’re a big, why would you come to Kansas if there’s a decent chance two top 40 upperclassmen are coming back? We’re kind of in that situation in 2020. It’s not a done deal Ochai and Silvio leave after this year. Dave will likely return. If you’re Mady, MSU and BYU look a lot better from a PT standpoint since he’s signing in November. Finally, the lack of NBA studs compared to other blue bloods hurts. Who’s KU’s best perimeter player in the NBA? Wiggins? Yiiiikes. All these in a vacuum may seem relatively minor, but added together they leave KU out in the cold for a lot of top players.
