2020 Recruiting
-
@FarmerJayhawk Yeah, I saw that too. Prediction, we won’t sign him. We’ll already have two point guards who are both four stars and more than serviceable. No, scratch that, we’ll have three point guards if also including Garrett.
-
@Marco the staff wants at least 2 guards in 2020. If Harris doesn’t reclassify he’d be the third. They don’t want to rely on McBride as a 30 MPG guy as a sophomore. Harris won’t be ready to be the guy either. Love and Thompson are such good fits because they’re interchangeable on both ends. Both have the length to slide to the 3 in a small lineup. Chasing all these 6’0 ish guards doesn’t give us near the flexibility we want.

KU leads for Caleb Love.
Big time

Love retweeted something about KU coaches being 4 deep for his game. Bodes well you would think.

Very much so. Get Love, Thompson, and Harris then call it good.
-
Bold Harris prediction - Reclassify redshirt transfer. Prove me wrong Missouri boi. Please be a diamond in the rough.
Color me jaded, but the 3-4 year guys I’d like are ranked 30-80.
-
@dylans Bold prediction, aside from what the KU staff might want @FarmerJayhawk - and I agree, Love is bigtime - we will have only McBride, Harris and Garrett as our depth point guards. So, let’s move on to the frontcourt, who?
-
@dylans Mostly posting this as a reminder to myself for later since I’m about to go to sleep.
Interesting range of 30-80. I’m curious now how many kids in that range do stay 3-4 years. I’ll do breakdowns tomorrow over the last few classes that apply (so starting with 2017) and tackling each group of 10 (30-39, 40-49 etc) and seeing the percentages. My gut instinct would be not a lot in the 30-50 range are there 4 years.

I’m watching Mady Sissoko, Dawson Garcia, Josh Hall, and Isaiah Todd.

Seen a few 247 articles in the past week mention the rise of Bryce Thompson and his recruitment and don’t even mention KU… Wondering what’s up with that when he’s clearly a TOP target and has interest. No mention of his recent visit.
Anyways Bryce is now a 5 star prospect, ranked #20. Huge jump for this guy. Hope we can pull him and Love together
-
@BeddieKU23 Man, if we could pull Thompson and Love I would be ecstatic (hope my gut feeling is wrong. It wouldn’t be the first).
@FarmerJayhawk gave a list of frontcourt players. It would great to add Todd and Garcia too.
-
I wish you all would put videos up of these kids you talk about. Or use full names. Consider it your good deed for the elderly…lol.
-
@BShark Mason 76, Graham 36. Seems to be the sweet spot.

We probably need a new thread with a list of “persons if interest” with their 247 linked next to them

30-39
2017
Still in school: Silvio, John Petty (barely), Paul Scruggs, Chaundee Brown, Ethan Thompson
Gone: Jalek Felton, SGA, Lindell Wigginton, Brandon Randolph, Daniel Gafford
2016
SR: Cassius Winston, Alterique Gilbert, Udoka
Left after JR year: Tyus Battle, Kyle Guy
Left before that: Zach Collins, Lauri Markannen
LOL: Cunliffe, Javin DeLaurier
The 2017 guys could still leave before their senior year of course. I bet at a minimum Silvio does. It’s a crapshoot.

Both had major KU bumps.
Also this. 24/7 shows national ranking history thankfully. When KU started recruiting Graham he was ranked #196.
-
To add, the 2018 class saw two players in the 30-39 range go OAD
Tyler Herro & Luquentz Dort.
I would wager a few pennies we see Reggie Perry, Ayo, Javonte Smart & Kira Lewis join after this year. 60% likely gone after two years.
Joey Baker will be around, Brandon Williams knee’s will likely get in his way of leaving early, McCormack is a 4 year guy and I have no idea on Cherry’s career arc but all I saw him do at AZ St was chuck 3’s so who knows.
The 30-39 range is definitely not what people think it is

Yeah, but the major KU bumps this go around got the guys into the 90-150 range. Pretty unimpressive. Diamonds in the rough are tough to find and guys in this range rarely make an impact in their first 2-3 years.
-
@approxinfinity I think this will need to be a bigger class than last year. Plus the timing of the FBI stuff and rumors swirling hurt a lot. 2018 was a big class when needed, 20 needs to be big and typically Bill does his best work in these spots.
-
-
I answered him on discord but basically it’s guys I think KU is firmly leading for.
-
Crap. Still can’t delete things. Enjoy!

If there is no new post on that thread it will disappear unless you actively search it out. Personally I only go to unread topics. I don’t believe editing the OP will bring it back up.
-
@bshark. Answering before the question. - FYI it still doesn’t show up in the unread topics. Your thread, your prerogative; just a heads up if you want traffic. If it’s just for yourself it’s perfect.
-
@dylans Not meaning to toot my own horn but we could pin it if it is felt that it is important enough.
I will be editing the OP with new information as I hear about it.
Ty Berry will play his SR year at Sunrise: https://twitter.com/Ty_Berry23/status/1151191415281635336
A bit of 1 + 1 here with Dajuan Harris who was going to be at Sunrise this upcoming year.
-
@BShark I bet his newton coach is not happy. Unless he was a pain? I doubt it. He does hate, really hate, KU!

Um the coach?

Newton coach.

Good for Berry, not so good for KSHAA basketball.

Just no winning for Bill lol. Can’t recruit OADs or program guys…
Have to be high impact freshman who are okay with sitting the bench. All 5 of them.

-
Most kids transfer to sunrise Academy so they can get better in get more chances to get scholarships from coaches
-
@Crimsonorblue22 I bet that his Newton coach was not happy at all. But great situation for Ty he gets to play with the #5 kid in the country in the 2020 class,. Also heard that Tom Izzo was a steady presence at Tys games this past weekend in Atlanta, along with Michigan University.

New offer. He was terrific this weekend. https://247sports.com/Player/Kerwin-Walton-4605721
Sure seems to be a lot more offering to middle on the top 100 and then even guys like this - - and like McBride - - & Braun last year maybe a change of plan/attack in recruiting - -maybe looking at more 4 year quality guys for room to improve - - -
It could be with this new rule coming into effect before to longer , maybe Coach is changing approach/attack. Could be he is looking to start making more of an concerted effort on 4 year types of guys that has room to develop. - Good solid quality players - - yet 4 year players and possibly a little less on the Elite that we know with more then not probably will jump straight to the NBA. - So Coach getting a little head start - I dunno just a thought. - He starts recruiting these types of players now - -leaves less chance of getting left out from the elite and then having to scramble for other players to fill holes on the roster - - I really don’t have a problem with good solid quality 3-4 year players with a OAD sprinkled in if we can still land them - -might work out okay - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
-
Yes sir
-
@alwaysajayhawk We won’t sign Berry if Harris commits - as simple as that. (edit) I didn’t see @FarmerJayhawk 's post before sending this.
-
@jayballer73 That’s kind of what I have said and am thinking, and - but we’ll always nab a couple of high profile recruits - I am all in!

I’ll take that. I say quit concentrating on PGs in the 2020 class, focus elsewhere.
-
No way. We still need an impact guard if not two.
-
@BShark We will need a big guard and a 2/3 swingman, not a point guard.
-
We still need 2 guards, possibly a wing, and 2 bigs.
-
Can’t see signing an impact wing at all. Enaruna, Wilson, Garret and to a lesser extent Braun will likely all still be on the roster.
-

I still can. If Kyree Walker wants to come, you take him. So we’ll see.

That’s what I more or less just said, don’t see us signing another PG, though.
-

This is how I see it. Would have to be a miracle like Scottie Barnes to take a wing.
SO McBride and RS FR/SO Harris as the only point options is an NIT recipe but Self is so good he would make the NCAAT somehow. Honestly in that spot maybe Garrett starts at pg, really don’t wanna see it. Adding Caleb Love would be a game changer.

Look, not trying to argue with you man, but recruits are not stupid. We’d have McBride, Harris and Garrett - a pretty crowded PG rotation. Didn’t say I didn’t want us to sign another point guard, only said that we wouldn’t. And while thinking that I believe that we should focus mostly on other positions. PS - I disagree about a McBride/Harris tandem at PG being NIT. Would Caleb Love who cannot pass be such an improvement?
-
Love, Nix and Thompson are all immediate starters period. Not saying we get them but they are all started level and Bill will try. Love is a game changer imo, would be thrilled to land him we need size. Garrett is an emergency pg.
